WarwickEconomicsSummitwasfoundedin2002,wheretheinauguralSummitwasthefirstundergraduateinter-universityEconomicseventintheUK.InlightoftherecentterroristattacksontheTwinTowers,engagingdirectlywithit,theSummitwasentitledNoLongerInevitable?TheFutureoftheWorldEconomyafterSeptember11th.Despiteinitialworries,theeventwasagreatsuccessandlaidthefoundationsfortheSummitswhichfollowed.

Sincethen,theSummithasrisentobecomeawell-respectedeventnotonlyinwithintheUniversityofWarwick,butalsowithinthewidercommu-nity.Eachyearapproximately400studentsincluding200external,non-WarwickstudentsflocktotheWarwickcampustoattendlecture,debatesandstudent-ledseminars.

TheSummitdoesnotonlyattractstudentdelegates,butalsoattractsnotablespeakersfromaroundtheworld.NotablespeakersofprevioussummitsincludeProf.JohnF.Nash(NobelLaureate1994),andJohnAuthers(GlobalHeadoftheLexColumn).FormerChancelloroftheExchequer,AlistairDarlingdescribedWarwickEconomicsSummitasaveryworthwhileprojectencouragingstudenttostudyanddebatecurrenteconomicissues.Ithelpsbuildconfidenceamongstthestudentsandisofrealeducationalvalue.

ThecontinuedsuccessoftheSummitisreflectedintherangeofback-groundsexhibitedinthevisitingdelegatesandtherenownofthespeak-ers.
