  • The Warwick IFP (formerly the hEFP) is a nine month intensive programme

    designed to prepare international students for undergraduate study at Warwick

    and other leading universities in the UK.

    The programme will provide you with an excellent academic foundation in your

    chosen subject; you will follow 1 of 5 distinct academic streams that will prepare

    you for further study. Alongside this, you will receive tailored English language

    and study skills support. By following a University of Warwick approved syllabus,

    you will develop the key skills and knowledge necessary to progress to a wide

    range of undergraduate programmes.

    You will be taught through a combination of small classes, lectures and tutorials

    and will be assigned a small tutor group, who will support your academic

    development throughout the course.

    Working within one of our two partner colleges, you will have access to a wide

    range of academic and social resources to enhance your student experience.

    As a fully enrolled University of Warwick student you will also have full access

    to all on-campus facilities including the Warwick library, sports facilities

    and students Union.

    You will develop the knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to a wide range

    of business-related programmes. The course teaches the foundations of business and includes

    modules of Mathematics, statistics, Economics and sociology which will allow you to explore

    how business exists and operates in modern society.

    You will gain a comprehensive introduction to the core disciplines of social science:

    will include business organisations, accounting, marketing,

    business law and people & organisations. In addition, attention

    is paid to the links between these specific areas and their

    This module will introduce the discipline of sociology and

    the relationships between work, class and gender, as well as

    the inequalities that exist. Topics include the study of basic

    sociological concepts, an exploration of the meaning of work,

    and analysis. Topics include human behaviour, gathering

    psychological research evidence, individual motivation, stress,

    and interpersonal attraction.

    students lacking an appropriate high school qualification in

    well. This runs alongside the main social science subjects, so

    students will not be losing time from their other modules.

    This module will provide you with the knowledge and ability

    to solve practical problems involving data and analysis. You

    will also develop skills in modern mathematical and statistical

    theory, which will provide the necessary base to build upon

    at university level. Topics include representation of data;

    probability; discrete random variables (binomial, geometric

    distributions); bivariate data (correlation and regression);

    algorithms; graph theory; networks; linear programming.

    This module will provide you with an awareness and

    understanding of economics and the principles of the micro

    and macro branches. Topics include the study of economic

    systems, micro-economics issues of the economic problem;

    allocation of resources; production and efficiency; market

    failure; government intervention and the firm; macroeconomics

    issues of economic performance; inflation, unemployment

    and economic growth; competition and monopoly, macro-

    economics policy and the European Union.

    architecture. The creation of a project is an important part of

    this subject and is designed to enable to you to deal confidently

    with all aspects of computing as part of your main area of study

    at degree level. Topics include the basic concepts of information

    technology, computer architecture, development environment

    and applications.

    the law programme provides an introduction to the study of law and the techniques necessary for the study of law at degree level. the programme also includes an element of social studies, enabling students to consider law in its wider social context. the third part of the course concerns essential english language and study skills. weekly lectures are held at the university of warwicks school of law.

    law and society

    This module will provide you with an understanding of the law

    and the English legal system. Topics include the nature and

    purpose of law, the development of the English legal system

    and its European context, and the sources of modern English

    law. special attention is given to the skills necessary to find and

    use statutes, cases and other legal materials. It also considers

    the mechanisms and personnel of the law and aspects of civil

    and criminal procedure, which will be illustrated by court visits.

    substantive areas of law covered include contract and tort. This

    is the main focus of the law programme and takes 9 hours per

    week, of which 2 hours are taught on the University campus by

    staff from the school of law.

    social science

    This module is taught in parallel with the law and society

    module, with a continuous strand of sociology and

    contributions in turn from Politics, Economics and Psychology.

    The topics chosen and the approach taken are designed to

    complement those studied in law and society.

    While students look at the judiciary and legal professions

    in law, the social science course introduces a broader

    consideration of the professions in general. similarly, when the

    institutions of the law are considered, the social science course

    will look at the bureaucracy and capitalism in modern societies.

    Warwicks direct Application system. This system is used to

    manage applications to a number of Warwick foundation and

    postgraduate programmes so please ensure that you read the

    You can accept your offer online via the Warwick IFP website. In

    order to accept your offer you must have paid the 2,000 non-

    refundable deposit and submitted copies of any documents

    listed in your offer email.

    your offer email. If you do not accept your offer by this date,

    your offer will be declined by default.

    are applications competitive?

    The Warwick IFP receives a high volume of applications each

    year and places are offered on a competitive basis. Applicants

    must usually meet the minimum entry criteria in order to receive

    a place on the programme.

    what should i write in my personal statement?

    Your personal statement provides an opportunity to explain

    to the Warwick IFP Admissions team why you believe you

    are the right person to be offered a place on the programme.

    In your personal statement you should briefly outline your

    reasons for applying for the Warwick IFP, why you have applied

    for your chosen stream and what you hope to achieve on

    the programme. Your personal statement will be considered

    alongside your academic qualifications and is often used to

    determine the outcome of borderline applicants.

    The fee for the Warwick IFP is charged in line with the current

    undergraduate Band 1 fees for the University of Warwick.

    In addition to meeting the terms of the academic offer and

    completing an approved English language Test, all applicants

    must pay a non-refundable deposit of 2,000 which will be

    subtracted from the overall course fee.

    course duration

    The course is a nine-month programme which runs from

    september - June annually. students are expected to attend

    the whole course. In addition to two mid-term breaks (in Term 1

    and 2) there will be a short break in december/January and

    in the spring Term.

    The course will be split into three terms: Autumn, spring

    and summer.

    programme delivery

    Contact Hours: The course will involve at least 25 hours per

    week of taught lectures, tutorials or seminars. Alongside tutor-

    led sessions, students should spend approximately 10 hours per

    week in private study.

    Seminars: students are expected to participate in regular class

    discussion within small groups. Tutors will set classwork before

    seminars and students will be required to adequately prepare

    for these sessions through private study.

    Lectures/Large group sessions: Alongside seminars and

    tutorials, students will attend a number of larger group sessions

    throughout the year. These sessions are intended to frame

    future learning and introduce key concepts. In addition to

    academic teaching, students will attend a range of information

    and advice sessions led by the University of Warwick.

    The Warwick IFP has over 30 years of experience delivering

    exemplary foundation studies to international students. The

    programme is delivered by two leading college partners and is

    administered and governed by a management team within the

    University of Warwick. Each course syllabus is assessed and

    approved by the University of Warwick IFP Board of studies

    through collaboration with a number of external examiners
