Angola The Provincial Services of INAC Luanda will work with the ILO/IPEC‐ TACKLE Project to organize several activities throughout the Luanda districts to call attention to the child labour situation in Angola. These activities will include:

Organizing a training of operators in the non‐formal education system on the SCREAM methodology, which will conclude with the signing of a protocol with “Terns if Commitment” between high‐level officials of INAC Luanda, the Bureaus of Education, UNTA‐CS, the NGO Kandengues Unidos, the Italian NGO CIES and the Network Education for All. The protocol will be symbolic and establish unity to promote better services and protection of children’s rights.

Six art and cultural workshops will be held across the districts and 100 students of non‐formal education will participate in the production of messages against child labour. The best 50 works will be displayed in an exhibition on June 12.

CONTACT On June 12, 100 children and their accompanying teachers

from Golfe and Viana will participate in a debate organized by a representative of the Tripartite Commission for the ILO and a representative of the General Labour Inspectorate to address the different problems associated with child labour.

A documentary that aims to disseminate the most problematic issues of child labour in the PALOPs countries and that also shows the efforts that have been undertaken by the ILO, CPLP, governments and social partners to eradicate this problem. Argentina In Argentina, the Civil Association of Azoteca, a local NGO, will be implementing a campaign to celebrate WDACL that will broadcast throughout the country’s radio stations.. The radio campaign will include four 30 ‐ 45 minute segments to inform the public about the prevention and eradication of child labour in domestic work.

Additionally, campaign coverage will be disseminated via audiotape to ensure a greater number of people have access for greater information about the problems associated with child labour in domestic work.

Burundi The Ministry of Labour, in collaboration with ILO / IPEC and UNICEF, will organize a full week of events to celebrate WDACL in Burundi. Activities include media communications, commercials, radio and TV debates, posters, awareness workshops and public parades.

A campaign will be launched depicting the situation of children involved in domestic work and especially girls to create awareness and to call for action.

Cameroon Pour preparer la ratification de la Convention No. 189 sur les travailleuses et travailleurs domestiques, un groupe de travail sur le travail domestique et la traite des personnes a récement été créé autour du Ministère du Travail et de la Sécurité Sociale /MINTSS) et de l’Organisation Internationale pour la Migration (OIM). Ce groupe de travail mène une réflexion sur les enjeux et le contenu éventuel d’une legislation nationale sur le travail domestique. Cependant, il est à regretter que la question spécifique du travail des enfants n’ait pas été soumise à examen. Pour pallier à cette lacune, un atelier de

Costa Rica Costa Rica will celebrate WDACL by organizing a workshop where participants will bring information to discuss and consider ways to strengthen the global campaign against child labour in domestic work. The Department of Work and Social Security, along with the support of the ILO, will hold the workshop to inform participants – member representatives from the government, employer unions, employee unions, the NGOs, UN agencies, the general population and children and adolescents – about legislative reforms to aid the elimination of domestic child labour, establish decent working conditions, and adequate protection for domestic child workers legally able to work.

Additional topics will include the ratification of Convention No. 189 and its application to child labour, as well as measures to be taken to promote the worldwide movement against child labour and strengthen the capacity of the domestic workers unions in order to tackle the question of child labour. Informative materials will be produced and disseminated throughout the campaign to raise awareness.

Republic discussion forum will be held on June 12th covering the impacts of domestic child labour on the lives of children and adolescents. The discussion will call attention to the impacts and risks for the boys and girls exploited by domestic child labour, in addition to generating opinion to assist in the ratification of Convention No. 189.

A press conference will open the discussions. Information regardig the risks associated with domestic child labour will be disseminated through brochures, notebooks, and posters.

Ecuador Ecuador will celebrate WDACL by organizing a national campaign, “Yo apoyo la Ratificación del Convenio 189, y tú?,” to promote the elimination of child labour by implementing Convention No. 189.

An information workshop will be organized by the Domestic Paid Workers Association (Asociación de Trabajadores Remuneradas del Hogar (ATRH)) in preparation for the June 12th event addressed to the authorities and trade unions. Discussions will include the implementation of legislative reforms to eliminate domestic child labour and establish better working conditions, the risks of the paid domestic work for the International Day for the Action of Women’s Health, child labour in domestic work and ratification of Convention No. 189.

the following five Egyptian governorates: Sharkeyya, Fayoum, Menia, Assuit and Sohag These celebrations involve the working children who have been withdrawn from the labour market and joined the schooling system. France In Paris, on the eve of the World Day, June 11, the renowned conductor Claudio Abbado is dedicating his concert (with the Mozart Orchestra and Radu Lupu) to the struggle against child labour and will issue a call to conductors, orchestras and musicians of all genres throughout the world, to dedicate a concert to the cause between the Global Child Labour Conference in Brazil in October 2013 and the end of 2014.

Ghana Shortly before the World Day, a major ECOWAS/ILO Symposium will be held in Accra (27‐29 May with a follow‐up day for government officials on 30 May). The event will promote the Regional Action Plan on child labour adopted by ECOWAS Ministers of Employment and Social Protection. It will encourage sharing of experiences in tackling child labour, help create a network of people with responsibilities in child labour to drive the process forward in each country and regionally, and to start the process of peer review which is a major mechanism in the Regional Action Plan.

Guatemala Guatemala will be celebrating WDACL by intensifying its efforts towards the elimination of the worst forms of child labour by 2015, with complete elimination of child labour by 2020. Guatemala has partnered with the ILO and UN Guatemala to mark the occasion and carry out a public event “No al trabajo inantil en el trabajo doméstico” to raise awareness among the general public. The event will take place in Guatemala City, in “Pasos y Pedales,” an area typically closed off from traffic on Sundays until two in the afternoon. Media coverage will be present as over 200 representatives from the government, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and women’s organizations will come together to raise public awareness and disseminate promotional materials (t‐shirts, brochures, and notepads) regarding domestic labour in third‐party houses and the ratification of Convention No. 189.

Guinea‐Bissau

Guyana June 8‐14 – The Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security in coordination with the ILO/IPEC, will organize two rural community festivals in areas with reported cases of child labour activities to raise public awareness on the issues of child labour, truancy and school absenteeism. The festivals will include Sporting Competitions during the day and cultural events. Children at risk of becoming involved in labour activities will be encouraged to participate.

On 12 June, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour will be holding a stakeholders conference on child labour to discuss key issues such as the presence of children in labour activities, especially in mining communities, identifying specific locations where children are found and the activities their engaged in, and determining the need for technical assistance to plan strategies for intervention. Additionally, these Ministries, along with the National Library, will be displaying banners to raise awareness among the general public.

Between June 10‐14 Peer Education Sessions will be held in certain secondary schools in Georgetown to encourage at‐risk students to remain in school by setting up peer sessions with Senior Secondary School students who have remained in school and are benefiting from

Anti child labour messages will be printed throughout national newspapers strongly denouncing child labour, school drop out, truancy and absenteeism, and encouraging staying in school. The Employers’ Organization of Guyana and the Consultative Association of Guyanese Industries will coordinate in creating child labour publications for employers to sensitize them of their role in the anti child labour campaign.

Honduras To commemorate WDACL, the ILO and IPEC will hold a forum, “No al tranajo infantil en el trabajo doméstico en Honduras,” in Honduras to raise awareness about domestic child labour with participating national authorities, members from key sectors, and those from the general community. Pamphlets with information focusing on child labour in domestic work will be disseminated to participants.

Indonesia In Indonesia, a range of activities are planned to mark the World Day. Many will be supported by the ILO’s PROMOTE project which seeks to tackle child labour in domestic work by strengthening domestic workers organizations. PROMOTE will support the launch of advocacy campaigns in Jakarta, Surabaya and Makassar, working together with Government Ministries, social partners, domestic workers organizations and NGOs. Below is a description of an activity in Jakarta on June 12 which will also be replicated in Surabaya and Makassar.

To attract public attention, JARAK (a network of NGOs working on child labour) will launch a public awareness raising campaign at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout in Central Jakarta. Participants from their member organizations and networks, including domestic wokers (adults and children) will gather to disseminate campaign materials to the passerbys and to display messages promoting elimination of child labour and decent work for domestic workers. To mark the start of the awareness raising campaign, representatives from the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (MoMT), Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (MoWECP), Ministry of National Education (MoNE), and Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) will be invited by JARAK to release white doves to the sky symbolizing flying as high as possible to reach their dreams.

Italy Tuesday 11 June, Rome. Press conference for the presentation of a National research on Child labour conducted by Save the Children Italy and IRES (Research Institute of the Trade Union CGIL). The methodology of the research has been shared and endorsed by a Scientific Committee composed by experts of the following organizations: Ministry of Labour, Ministry for Education, Conferenza delle Regioni; Garante Nazionale per l'Infanzia e l'Adolescenza; CNEL; International Organization for Migration and International Labour Organization.

The ILO has been able to provide its technical assistance as member of the Scientific Committee through the staff of the UCW Programme based at the ILO Rome Office. A one day event has been organized by the Italian Association for Education, Media and communication (MED) in collaboration with the ILO, Comitato Italiano Città Unite (CICU), World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and Fondo Provinciale Milanese per la Cooperazione Internazionale (FPMCI). Jamaica Jamaica will be launching a media campaign to commemorate World Day and raise public awareness against child domestic labour. In addition to radio and television interviews, and articles in the newspapers, HM Communication will invite members of the public to participate in a song competition where participants are invited to

CONTACT write and record a song addressing the issue of child domestic labour. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. Radio Public Service Announcements in 30 second segments will inform the public about the competition.

A free lunch‐hour concert will be held on June 12 and broadcast by the media. The top three winners of the song competition will perform their entries on live tracks, along with a special guest performer. To open the concert, union representatives alongside, 30 children, the Child Ambassadors for the OCR, will walk a lap around the venue holding up their RED CARDS in protest and to show solidarity against child labour in Jamaica.

Japan In Japan, various awareness raising activities on child labour will be taking place during June. On June 2, there will be a symposium in Yokohama on “Elimination of Child Labour, Universal Primary Education, and Youth Employment towards Quality Growth for a Dynamic Africa,” co‐organized by the ILO Office for Japan and the Child Labour Network (group of NGOs, trade unions and civil society). This will be one of the side events of the 5th Tokoyo International Conference on African Development – TICAD V (Yokohama, 1‐3 June 2013).

Besides the symposium, the Child Labour Network (CL‐Net) plans to organize “Raise a Flag” Action Project during the month of June utilizing social media. Using the illustration prepared by Mr. Dick Bruner, Dutch artist, who has been a leading illustrator on child labour, the campaign aims to raise awareness on the issue of child labour, by asking supporters of the campaign to take photos of the campaign flag

Jordan In Jordan, the ILO and Ministries of Labour, Education and Social Development will mark the occasion with a media event in Amman on 11 June 2012. The event will invite media, national and international partners to announce the new National Child Labour Database and implementation activities related to the National Framework to Combat Child Labour. It will offer the opportunity to the media to interact with the three ministries on national efforts to address child labour.

In addition, the first National Children’s Conference on Child Labour will be held from 18‐19 June 2013. The conference, including the participation of working children, will facilitate the development of a children’s declaration to be presented to high‐level government representatives on 19 June 2013.

Kenya June 10‐14 – The Ministry of Labour and the ILO/IPEC TACKLE Project will work together to coordinate a stakeholders’ workshop in Naivasha to sensitize participants about the worst forms of child labour, focusing on child domestic labour, and the Government’s legal and policy framework on child labour elimination.

On June 12, WDACL celebrations will include:

A procession for children and adults;

Breakfast meeting to lobby for the adoption of the National Policy on Child Labour;

Follow‐up activities will include conducting research to discover more facts and figures on child labour , conducting interviews with child labourers to increase understanding over the situation, attain media coverage to bring the child labour problem to the public attention, and meet with relevant authorities to present child labour findings, including a Child Labour Conference organized by the Child Labour Unit‐MLSW.

Kyrgyzstan On June 11, 2012 the Trade Unions of Education and Science Workers of Kyrgyzstan in close collaboration with the Parliament will organize a half‐day high level meeting of the Committee on social policy and the Committee of education of the Parliament to analyse and evaluate the progress made by Kyrgyzstan in achieving the globally established targets on child labour, point out areas of success and determine what are the areas to be targeted as a matter of priority.

In Kyrgyzstan, a Mass Media campaign will include the following activities:

A television space bridge Bishkek‐Osh will be organized and undertaken for 30 representatives on the key line ministries and their subordinated departments on June 6, 2013. The space bridge will be widely aired by Mass media, including main OTKR TV channel, electronic information agencies (AkiPress, 24kg. kabar etc).

Press – café for 30 representatives of Mass Media (TV channels, radio stations, written and electronic press) will be organized in the format of interactive training session. The agenda of the press‐cafe will include information on child labour elements and interactive discussion on how to produce the information materials in Mass Media on child labour. The participants will be briefly trained on the history and purposes of the WDACL and Mass Media campaign. Lao PDR The government of Lao PDR will hold a meeting on June 12th with more than 300 officials and school children around the country’s capital to express their views and ideas on the worst forms of child labour. The main objective will be to raise awareness on child labour among government officials, workers’ and employers’ representatives, and youth.

Malawi Several activities have been lined up for commemorating the WDACL in Malawi and IPEC has been providing support to the Government and other stakeholders.

On 10th June 2013, the Ministry of Labour with social partners will hold a press briefing in Lilongwe on this WDACL theme. IPEC will also be part of this briefing and the event will be covered on national TV and Radio stations.

From 12th to 15th 2013, the key ILO/IPEC ARISE Programme (Employers, Workers, CICOD and YECE) stakeholders will conduct awareness raising activities in two project impact areas of Ntcheu and Lilongwe Districts. Pakistan An event will be held in Lahore on June 12 to launch the results of Rapid Assessments which have been undertaken in a number of Districts and provinces to collect information on some of the worst forms of child labour.

The Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP) and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industries together with the ILO Office in Pakistan is organizing an event in Sialkot on 11 June 2012 to highlight the major achievements made in eliminating child labour from major export industries including the soccer ball sector. Prior to the event, the representatives from Government, Employers and Workers will visit a school that was initiated by an ILO Project to provide education to many ex‐child labourers and has been sustained by the local community and upgraded to a college. A report produced on the Sialkot Initiative will be launched by the EFP .

Many other WDACL observance events will be organized on 12 June. In Punjab, the Provincial Child Labour Unit (PCLU) is organizing an event which includes the launching of rapid assessment reports of worst forms of child labour in 12 districts in Punjab and screening of video documentaries produced by media students of Lahore College of Women University. A Similar programme is planned by PCLU‐Khyber Pakhtunkhwa jointly with University of Peshawar while PCLU‐Sindh in Karachi and PCLU‐Balochistan in Quetta are planning observance programmes involving local NGOs and various celebrities. Under a Punjab Government funded project, the EFP along with respective district governments and local employer associations are organizing WDACL events in Jhang, Layyah, Jhelum and Chakwal districts on 13th and 14th June, respectively.

The World Day Against Child Labour takes place during the period of the International Labour Conference, which brings together in Geneva representatives of governments, employers and workers. On June 12 in the "Palais des Nations" there will be a side meeting of the ILO’s International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) which will review the progress of IPEC work and discuss plans for a major international conference on child labour, to take place in Brazil during October.

CONTACT areas as well as establishing an industry that is free from child labour and forced labour while offering decent working conditions and opportunities to Thai and migrant workers, various activities are occuring throughout Thailand to celebrate World Day and focus special attention to the situation of Thai and migrant children at risk of entering or/and involved in hazardous child labour.

On June 12 in Bangkok, the ILO‐IPEC and Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) of the Ministry of Labour in Thailand will organize a one day advocacy event in Bangkok together with NGO’s and Informal economy workers organizations such as Home Net actively working on protection of domestic workers. The event will focus on child domestic workers, highlighting the general need for higher protection for domestic workers and the particular need to address child domestic work.

In the Province of Samut Sakhon on June 12, Thai Frozen Food Producers Association (TFFA) and Thai Food Producers Association (TFPA) will, together with the Provincial Governor’s Office and ILO‐IPEC Provincial Office in Samut Sakhon, organize a one day advocacy event involving a wide range of fisheries industry members and local Government actors advocating for higher awareness about child labour and addressing child labour issues in the fisheries industry.

On June 16 in the Province of Surat Thani, the Provincial Government of Surat Thani with the ILO‐IPEC project office there will organize a one day advocacy event including a Tuk Tuk motorcycle “regatta” highlighting the issue of child labour and human trafficking and the need for wider community, local Government and community

Timor‐Leste In Timor‐Leste on June 12th, a public media event “Together we combat child labour in Timor‐Leste” will be held to raise public awareness on child labour for all stakeholders.

Implementing priority measures and activities in Timor‐Leste to target vulnerable children, especially girls, child domestic workers, children with disabilities, and those in isolated areas, and

Information about the country’s legal framework for protecting young individuals legally able to work.
