Worship Service Veteran’s Day

November 12, 2017

“THE WESTMINSTER CHIMES” (Please use this time to prepare for worship.)

GATHERING TOGETHER

CALL TO WORSHIP: from Psalm 143:8, 10 Judith Bloor-Brandt Leader: Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust

in you. Show me the way I should go, for I have entrusted my life to you. People: Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit

lead me on level ground. All: O Lord, we trust in your unfailing love for us!

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE * CONFESSING OUR FAITH: The Heidelberg Catechism – Day 27: Questions 72-74

Leader: Does the water of baptism, which washes my outside, also wash away all my sin?

All: Only by the blood of Jesus Christ, as applied to our life by the Holy Spirit, are we cleansed from all our sin.

Leader: Why does God’s Word describe baptism as “the washing of rebirth” and “the washing away of sin”?

All: God wants to teach us that just as water washes away dirt from our

bodies, so does the blood and Spirit of Christ wash away our sin. But

more important, God wants to assure us, by this divine pledge and

seal, that the washing away of our sin spiritually is as real as the

washing of our body physically. * GATHERING SONG: Jesus Paid It All (see insert—vs. 1, 2, and 5) * PRAYER OF CONFESSION: based on Psalm 139:23-24 Judith Bloor-Brandt

We join with David in asking you: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me

and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the

way everlasting.” Lord, in your mercy, forgive our sins… (silent confession) SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON

* GREETING ONE ANOTHER: Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you.

CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE: #579—Glory Be to the Father ANTHEM: He Hideth My Soul Fanny Crosby arr. John Carter

GROWING IN THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 3:1-7 (pew Bible page 2) Pastor Steve CHILDREN’S MESSAGE SERMON: MADE FOR MORE THAN ME: The Fracturing of Community PRESENTING TO GOD OUR GIFTS AND TITHES: (You are also invited to sign the friendship pad and pass along for others to do the same)
