Sr. Pastor’s Letter

Dear Friends in Christ at King of Glory,

As a kid, June was always one of my favorite months. Not only

was school out for the summer but I also celebrated my birthday.

It marked a change in the rhythms of life. In those days it meant

carefree days swimming in the city pool, playing baseball every

day, or riding my bike all over town. It was great fun.

Churches, like King of Glory, also experience a change in the

rhythms of faith life in the summer months. Confirmation and

Sunday school are over. Adult bible studies have concluded. We

move into our summer worship schedule where all of us gather

for one Sunday service at 9:30 a.m.

Many take vacations or go camping. Others enjoy sitting in a

boat fishing or going golfing. Some have loads of fun on their

motorcycles. I’m sure there are many things you enjoy.

In this change of rhythm may it be a time where you experience

God differently, too. In the beauty of creation you can give

thanks to God our creator. In the relationships you have you can

love one another because God first loved you in his son, Christ

Jesus. Maybe God’s grace can take a hold of your life in new

ways as you stand in this grace which has been given to you.

So, open your eyes and ears to the presence of God in these days

of rhythm change. Don’t be surprised as to how God’s Holy

Spirit might intersect with your life in the days of summer!

God bless you and keep you in His Grace!

Our fundraising challenge for the Office Wing!

SOMETHING IS HAPPENING at King of Glory in what was the unfinished portion of our main floor. Rooms have sprung up, walls have been sheet rocked and painted, doors have been hung, wiring has been installed along with the preliminaries needed for an IT system and ductwork has been installed for the heating and air conditioning in what is quickly becoming our OFFICE WING!

WHEW! That is a ton of work accomplished mainly by volunteers of all ages and sizes with a little help from paid contractors…..I almost said “pros” when so many of our volunteers have shared their professional skills and contacts with our project.

At the writing of this article our congregation has generously donated over $72,000, more than half of our estimated cost of about $100,000! But these generous donors represent only 15% of our congregation. Now we are asking for help from the rest of our members in order to build A FUTURE TOGETHER. Each gift will help us reach our goal of fully funding the building costs and having 70% of our congregation participate in that funding.

YOU CAN HELP: every dollar donated will help us reach our goal and you can proudly say that you helped to accomplish this! Could your family give up a pizza and movie night or a trip to the ice cream store once a month during the summer? By doing so you could possibly pledge $100 that we would gratefully use in creating A FUTURE TOGETHER.

WHY NOW: these offices will unite our staff in one place so that current and future ministries can be organized and administrated more effectively. Larger work spaces will allow staff and mem-bers to collaborate on projects and more efficiently utilize resources. And we have been paying for a mortgage on this unused space for many years. The time is now to complete this office wing as we look to A FUTURE TOGETHER!

LOOK FOR: your invitation to participate and take time to return the pledge card or your dona-tion to the office. We look forward to your joyful response to this challenge! If you haven’t done so, please stop by and see the progress that has been made since January. Psalm 66:5 invites us to “Come and see what God has done: He is awesome in His deeds among us”.

Claudia Baker, Stewardship Chair

Congratulations, Tonia!

Tonia Fisher-Clark has been a long-time mem-ber of King of Glory. She trained for and be-came an LPA (Lay Pastoral Associate) in 2008. She started serving as the LPA pulpit supply for St. James Lutheran Church in Columbus, MT, in June of 2011. She was hired there in February of 2012 as their Synodically Authorized Minis-ter. During the recent years Tonia has been pur-suing pastoral studies through Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and Luther Seminary. She is finishing her studies this month and will be ordained as a pastor on June 5th at the closing worship service of the Montana Synod Assem-bly here in Billings. Please see the above invita-tion to her ordination and reception. All are welcome to celebrate with Tonia on June 5th. Congratulations, Tonia! We are so proud of you! We wish you all the best for your ministry in the years ahead!

Montana Synod Assembly

Members from congregations across the

Montana Synod will meet for the annual

Synod Assembly and Theological Conference

on June 3-5 here in Billings at the Ramada

(formerly the Holiday Inn). It is a time of

bible study and worship, hearing the state of

our Synod, learning and growing in our faith,

and celebrating our life together.

Former KOG member, Tonia Fisher-Clark,

will be ordained into the holy ministry during

the closing worship on Sunday June 5th which

begins at 11:00 a.m. KOG will hold a special

reception for Tonia at about 12:45 pm here in

our Commons.

Our three pastors will be attending along with

John & Terry Eisen. It is an exciting time as

we all seek to meet the future boldly.

Montana Synod House

Funds are coming in from across the

Montana Synod to build a new synod office

building, or as it is being referred to—the

Synod House. More is needed to get that

job done as we are about half way to our

financial goal. If you would like to donate,

specify on your check that it goes to the

Synod House.

In the summer of 2017 we plan to have the

Mission Builders on site to construct the

Synod House. Members from

congregations around the Synod are invited

to send a construction team to help out for a

week or two next summer.

For more information on this project, speak

with Pastor Darchuk.

“Creativity is a practice. It’s an action. To bring it into being, you must act as if it’s already there.” Pursuing Christ. Creating Art: Exploring Life at the Intersection of Faith and Creativity by Gary Molander

“Nah, I’m not an artist.” “I’m totally not one of those creative types.” “I wouldn’t know the first thing about making a work of art.”

As I invited people to attend the “A Work of Art” classes in April and May, I heard these sentiments of-ten. Yet, as I watch my children (ages five and two) color, paint, and draw I am struck by how freely they cre-ate without fear of “doing it right” or awareness of their naiveté. The contrast between the perspectives of an adult and a child regarding creativity (what it is and who can do it) is profound.

Perhaps that is why I found much joy in creating the “A Work of Art” course at KOG. In it, participants dared to put faith and creativity into conversation, even if they doubted their prowess in each. In that holy space, we could remind one another of God the Creator, who creates out of nothingness – and calls that creation good. Together, remembering that each of us bears the image of God, we embraced our uniqueness and how by virtue of our relationship to the Holy Creative One, each one of us is creative. Every week new elements added to the canvas and we (with fingers and brushes) reshaped what was there, watching ‘a new creation’ literally unfold before us. Meaningful words of faith, stamped and stenciled, directed us back to the promises of God, and final details and accents brought the project to its completion. Cont. pg 7

Thank you to those of you who ventured downstairs to “make a mess with God” and to explore those places where your faith and creativity intersect. While I hope that you are pleased with your final product, my prayer is actually that the process itself (of putting into image how you connect to the promises of the in-visible God) has opened up opportunity for you to grow in faith and life. For indeed, you are God’s work of art; and your life shows forth the creative and redeeming work of God to the world. With gratitude, Pastor Jen

*if you missed the opportunity to join into this “A Work of Art” class, speak with Pr. Jen to be a part of po-

tential future explorations of where faith and creativity intersect.

Dear KOG Family,

This school year flew by!! Besides lots of reading and working my way through a sea of paper writing I also did lots and traveling starting with spending Easter back there in Billings. In April I spent my Reading and Research week back in Moorhead, in May I drove to Dayton, OH for my younger brother’s college graduation from University of Dayton and then back to school for my

last week and my own graduation.

As of May 15th I am officially a seminary grad. For the first time ever I have no summer home-work for school and no homework. Even though I don’t have homework anymore I seem to fill the time easily. After graduation I packed up and cleaned by dorm room, enjoyed hanging out with my classmates and their kids. After spending time in Moorhead I will be heading to a camp friend and seminary classmate’s ordination in Rapid City and visiting family there then heading back to spend June back there in Billings. Looking forward to seeing you all soon. Blessings to

all.
