The EYC staff will be visiting your doorsteps with a little surprise between 9:30am and 11:30am, unless you have requested a separate time. We hope your party clothes are ready and that you have looked out your teddies for your Teddy Bear’s Picnic in your house or garden! We will continue to send stories from the EYC staff about starting school for pre-schoolers, and stories from the ladies to all our new starts so they can familiarise themselves with the staff and with their key worker. Mrs Law has also compiled a list of nursery rhymes for you to keep practising. Knowing simple rhymes and songs can help greatly with early literacy skills.

TROON PRIMARY SCHOOL & EARLY YEARS CENTRE

Home Learning: Early Years Centre

We are learning to cope with new situations.

We are learning about the people who are there to help us.

As we approach the summer break we are looking towards our return to

nursery and school in August. This will be a period of blended learning,

incorporating learning and play in the Early Years Centre and a home

learning programme of activities and experiences. At this point, the most

important thing is to talk to your child about what they can expect. Discuss

who their new teacher or key worker will be when they return, what will

happen each day and what might be a little different. This information can

be found in the booklet issued by the school last week. We will work to make

sure that each child feels welcome, happy and settled when attending

nursery in August.

In order to support your child at home over the summer and

when we return in August, it may be useful to collect some

flexible, open-ended resources which can be used in the

house or garden and which can support many different

activities. Mrs Law has compiled a list of items which can be

collected from the house or from the local environment.

They are all free and are useful for literacy, numeracy, art

and technology activities.

We are looking forward to our Graduation

celebrations for our pre-school children on

Tuesday 23rd June! The EYC staff will be visiting

your doorsteps with a little surprise between

9:30am and 11:30am, unless you have

requested a separate time. We hope your

party clothes are ready and that you have

looked out your teddies for your Teddy Bear’s

Picnic in your house or garden!

We will continue to send stories from the EYC staff about

starting school for pre-schoolers, and stories from the

ladies to all our new starts so they can familiarise

themselves with the staff and with their key worker.

Mrs Law has also compiled a list of nursery rhymes for

you to keep practising. Knowing simple rhymes and

songs can help greatly with early literacy skills.

Loose Parts and Exploratory Play

As we head into blended learning you will be provided with ideas and activities

for your child to work on at home which link to the curriculum. To complete

some of these activities it would be useful to have a variety of resources at

home. You will find a list below with some everyday household and local

environment items. If you like, you could start collecting these in preparation

for the home learning element of our blended learning approach in August.

Please do not feel the need to buy any items or find all the items. A selection

of these that you already have will be more than enough as many activities

can use more than one resource.

Sensory Play

Messy play is an important part of childhood as it allows exploration in a way

that interests young children. As most toys have a specific use, loose parts play

and messy play allow children to use the materials as they wish. Please find

some ideas below with recipes which can all be made using everyday

products.

Nursery Rhymes

Songs and rhymes are a lovely way to spend quality time

with your child. Singing rhymes and songs helps to develop

their speech, confidence and understanding of rhyme.

Along with actions, your child can improve their

concentration, sense of rhythm and motor skills. Some

rhymes can also help to develop early counting, ordering

and number recognition. The most important part about

rhymes is that you have fun with your child.

Here is a small selection of rhymes and lyrics that you can

share with your child.
