I would like to take the opportunity that this Newsletter offers me each year to outline the results of the efforts of everyone making up GRUPO ANTOLIN over the year now coming to an end.

Firstly, I would like to highlight a substantial improvement in the financial results of the company in 2010, thanks to the gradual recovery in the market and to the fantastic work of our teams and our ability to react. This time last year I asked for your commitment and trust in the face of changes in the industry and, once again, you have all responded in the best possible way, becoming involved and delivering.

I would also like to mention that our global presence has allowed us to finish the year with outstanding profits. The fact that we main-tain our identity, transmitting our ideas and training the people in the locations where we operate, is also a key part of this success.

In addition, over the last few months we have received two very important awards. As you all know, I am not one to accept awards for myself, unless they are shared with all of you. I want to take this opportunity to share with you the Merit in Work Award and the Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation International Economics Award, which are awards for the company as a whole. Congratulations!

Excellence in Quality must continue to be the focus of our efforts, and we must see this challenge as a personal target for each of us. Quality must be understood as a process of ongoing improvement, and it is only through this that we will manage to excel ourselves and continue to be among the best.

Before I finish, I would especially like to mention the launch of our new Policy and Strategy, and above all the establishment of the Values that we must all share:

· Creativity

· Leadership

· Customer Orientation

I would ask you all to keep these in mind and put them into practice in accordance with the guidelines you have received. It is through this that we will keep alive the flame of the business project that is GRUPO ANTOLIN.

My best wishes to you all and to your families at this special time of the year and I wish you all a very happy 2011. w

in first person

EditorialJosé Antolin Toledano ChairmanWe say goodbye to 2010 and a

new year starts with the best wishes that some of our executives send us through these pages. Take them as an example of the objectives and purpo-ses of the entire company.

In the central pages you will find the special report, Chat with “OUR PEO-PLE.” A way to know how our pro-duction and assembly plants work in different countries, as well as the personal views of some colleagues through their own testimonies and experiences.

We continue with the interview sec-tion, and this time we present the Le-gal Department through its Director, Pablo Ruiz Ferreiro. This is an area of our company that may go unnoticed, a priori, for some of us, but whose role is vital to support our growth and the activities we perform.

We suggest you to come with us to Brazil, to visit one of our plants lo-cated there, Iramec. From its current location near the city of Taubaté, we detail how the Total Quality tools and GA Production System have been im-plemented, which have helped them improve to be more competitive in this market.

In the section Occupational Health and Safety, we highlight the impor-tance of Health Monitoring. It is ne-cessary to improve the working envi-ronment and reduce labor accidents; let’s know how they have carried out these tasks in GA-RyA and which the keys to this success are.

The Corporate Responsibility, the Pa-ris Motor Show, new prizes, opening a plant in China, starting production in Russia, and more items are among the pages of this new number.

Are you going to lose them? w

Interview with the Director of the

Legal Department

interview

News Grupo Antolin4 · Winter 2010-2011

Page 5: We chat with “OUR PEOPLE”

The Legal Department is one of the least well known for many people in the company.

Since it deals with legal aspects, its work, although highly relevant, can pass unno-

ticed by most of us. Pablo Ruiz Ferreiro, as Director for this area, tells us more about

the day to day operations of this department, uncovering its tasks and functions

So that we can get to know you a little better, could you briefly tell us about your career and how you came to be working at Grupo Antolin?

You could say that almost my entire career has been spent in Grupo Antolin. I began working in what was then Irausa almost 20 years ago. In 1991, Irausa was a business group that only had plants in Spain. There were eight plants in total, and it had two small sales offices in France and England. It had just created Autoform and was negotiating the purchase of IGA. Up to that time it had just used external lawyers, but given the clear growth and internationalisation strategy implemented by the Antolin family, the view was that an in-ternal lawyer was needed, one who would be responsible for the ever increasing amount of work generated and who could support the growth of the Group.

Let’s move on now to your Department. How is it structured and what are its main functions?

As I said earlier, the Legal Department began when I joined the Group in 1991. A few years later, due to the significant growth of the company, Azucena Martínez (1992) and Javier Ballesteros (1995) joined us. The department continued to grow until it reached its current size, which is 6 lawyers and a secretary, all from Burgos. Apart from one recent addition, they have all spent more than 10 years in the company.

We have an open organisation in which we try to avoid very rigid roles so that, to the greatest extent possible, everyone has experience of all the aspects of the Group. However, we do organise ourselves into two work areas: National, led by Azucena Martínez; and International, which is run by Javier Ballesteros.

(See functions in the next page)

Grupo Antolin is a multinational with a signifi-cant global presence. What are the main obsta-cles caused by this international aspect when it comes to carrying out your work?

The group has more than 60 companies located outside Spain, in 20 different countries. As a result, one could ar-gue that the general problems that we all face in perform-ing our tasks are more complex for the Legal Department since we have to deal with 20 different legal systems. If the work of a company attorney is already complex and difficult as a result of the large variety of laws and regula-tions that he or she must be aware of in that country, this becomes much more complicated when considering the legislation of 20 different countries, each with its own reg-ulations and different specialities. Each country requires specific adjustments which involve constant learning and very close collaboration with local professionals.

Another very significant difficulty is that although inter-national business relations are normally carried out in English, in our field the offices, registries, courts and in general all the public bodies only work in the local lan-guages, which makes it vital to translate almost all the documents to be presented.

The legalisation of international documents is a particular-ly complex task which involves a great deal of bureaucracy. In many countries, any decision that must be registered with or presented to a public office or registry, for example something as simple as a power of attorney, brings with it a very long and complex legalisation procedure.

Page 6: We chat with “OUR PEOPLE”

Lastly, one must highlight the significant growth in liti-gation, which is increasingly common. A few years ago there were very few claims involving the Group, and these were practically anecdotal. However, over the last few years, perhaps due to the serious international crisis that we are experiencing, litigation has become increas-ingly common, particularly with suppliers, but also in fields as specific as cases relating to industrial property or patent. Recently we have had 3 cases involving industrial property that have required great effort, both from this Legal Department and from the Innovation and Market Department (DIC). Fortunately these have been success-fully concluded by the Group, but they could have carried serious implications if they had not been solved.

The Legal Department works with many other areas. Which stand out?

Logically, our most important working relationships are with other Group departments, particularly the Economics and Finance Department, with which we have an on-going re-lationship. Also very important is our relationship with the New Business Department for the projects that it launches, both during initial negotiations and when it comes to sign-ing contracts, creating new companies, etc. We also have many dealings with the Purchasing Departments, for both the purchase terms and conditions and the drafting of contracts, and to support them when there are problems with suppliers. We work with the DIC on agreements for research, grants, industrial property, etc. We also work with the Human Resource Department, among others.

Our mission is fundamentally to advise the Group

on all aspects of the Law which, due to their

particular characteristics, are not the specific

responsibility of other Group Departments. Among

the main functions we can highlight:

Group Companies: our responsibility is to ensure

that all the Companies, of which there are currently

more than 100, comply with the various business

regulations affecting them, as well as maintaining

the management bodies and powers of attorney up

to date and in force, implementing any company

decisions made with respect to these, controlling any

legal documents that may be requested and managing

compliance with all legal requirements and processes.

Civil and Commercial Contracts: in this

field our responsibility is to advise on, draw

up and supervise the civil and commercial

contracts of the Group in relation to partners,

but also for customers, suppliers, new businesses,

administrations and third parties in general.

In terms of Legislation, we provide

information about any changes to the legislation

falling within our remit and we propose specific

initiatives on the basis of this.

Legal defence: we lead and control the

management of the legal defence of the interests of

the Group against third parties and before the Courts.

Insurance: its overall management, including

contracting it, the constant updating of values

and negotiating damages, as well as the on-going

analysis of the insurance market to ensure that

we have the best and most innovative insurance

policies available in the market.

Secretariat for the Board of Directors and

Steering Committee.

Industrial Property: we manage the Grupo

Antolin brands.

In general, we can summarise our work as

proposing the most appropriate legal solutions

given the objectives to be reached, always taking

into account the laws in force and the rules and

regulations of the Group.

Lawyer’s Offices are a fundamental support for our activ-ity, both in Burgos, with the lawyer José Manuel Alonso Durán, Secretary of the Board of Directors at Grupo An-tolin and lawyer for the Group almost since the very be-ginning, and in the rest of Spain, but particularly in all the other countries in which we operate. In each country we have a Lawyer’s Office that works with us to manage our companies and provide support when problems arise.

Insurance brokers, particularly AON, are also very im-portant collaborators when it comes to managing the Group’s insurance, contracting the policies, carrying out their daily management and negotiating damages. At the moment, for example, we are involved in negotia-tions with the insurance companies that will provide compensation for the serious damage caused to GA Bo-hemia by the terrible flooding experienced last August, with sums involving several million euros.

What is the most enjoyable or attractive thing about your job?

The most attractive aspect of my job is Grupo Antolin itself; the project started by the Antolin brothers, full of enthusiasm and ambition, as a local business venture has, with the collaboration of all, become what we see today, a multinational leader in its sector, well known, admired, re-

spected and also, in some ways, envied. After 20 years of being part of this project, watching it grow and develop, in terms of products, market and customers, to such an extent that was impossible to imagine when I joined the group, what most attracts me to my work and motivates me is that this project continues to grow and develop, cre-ating employment and wealth and improving each day.

In addition, working here is the furthest thing from bor-ing that I know. The range of issues that we deal with, the continuous innovation and improvement in which we are involved, the constant flow of new projects, make our work exciting, a continual and permanent challenge.

What are the next challenges you will have to face?

The growth of the Group requires the company to change as it develops. We must continue to advance in terms of our position in the various countries in which we oper-ate, simplifying legal procedures, optimising the decision making and implementing processes, increasing manage-ment transparency, working more on the social responsi-bility of business and, in general, preparing the structure and organisation of the Company so that it can become a large company without losing sight of the principles and virtues that have made Grupo Antolin what it is today. w

History and location

The official creation of the company was thanks to the unconditional support of our colleagues at GA-Dapsa. Iramec was founded in 1996 as a result of a partnership between Grupo Antolin and Küster, and was located in the city of Caçapava, in São Paulo State. In 1997 it began manufacturing and supplying window regulators for VW. At a later date, Ford, Renault, GM, PSA and Mercedes were added to our list of customers.

With the growth of the car manufacturing sector in Brazil, our cus-tomers wanted local solutions that could meet their needs. To provide them with this service, we prepared a team and in 2001 we began to develop products at Iramec.

From the very start our employees understood the importance of qual-ity and continuous improvement. It is this culture that has led to our good results and in 2004 Iramec was chosen as the best company in Grupo Antolin, due to its progress in implementing Total Quality and its management results.Latch for lorry cabins

Over time, there was no longer enough space in the factory for all of our activities and a larger site was needed. In 2006 the plant moved to a new building, covering 7,427 m², on the outskirts of the city of Taubaté. This area, known as “Vale do Río Paraíba”, is on the line connecting São Paulo and Río de Janeiro, and is well developed. There are more than 2.2 million people living in this region, and it has more than 20 universities and higher education, research and technology centres. This is where the Brazilian aeronautical industry is concentrated, and where the VW, GM and Ford manufacturing plants are also located.

Our products

At Iramec we produce cable window regulators, single and double rail, as well as arm window regulators for several models.

In addition, we develop and manufacture latches for the cabins of VW and Mercedes lorries. Next year we are going to start supplying the recently developed cabin latches for a new Ford lorry.

In Brazil, there is a very distinctive and well developed market for vehicle accessories. As a rule, buyers of new cars do not want to wait weeks for the car to be delivered with the cho-sen accessories. Many of the cars produced by our customers are assembled with manual mechanisms and manual latches for the doors and boot. When the vehicle is sold, if the buyer wishes to have electric mechanisms and latches these must be fitted immediately if the car sale is not to be lost. To sat-isfy this requirement, we have developed window regulator and electric lock kits for cars. These kits contain all the com-ponents required (mechanisms, latches, harnesses, switches, control module, panels, consoles, etc.) to install the system, maintaining the originality of the vehicle.

Management and Quality

Iramec has achieved significant results from the application of the Total Quality principles and from its use of the Grupo Antolin Production System tools, which form part of the management strategy.

We have implemented the 5S across the entire plant: the synchronised flow of materials, including the components purchased, sub-sets in progress and finished products; the FIFO management system through barcodes; TPM; the prob-lem resolution system “QBS-red table”; and Kamishibai. We have obtained excellent productivity and quality results from the application of the standardisation and balancing of assembly work stations. By the end of 2010, the stand-ardisation of five assembly lines will have been completed and for 2011 we are going to apply this to three more.

Morale among the employees is high, they are happy with the introduction of the GA Production System tools and they carry out actions to ensure ongoing improvement with en-thusiasm. Evidence of this is the participation of all areas in issuing and putting into practice improvement proposals. In 2010, between January and September, 123 improvement proposals were implemented. Most proposals relate to the production process and require adjustments to the assembly lines. As a result, our maintenance personnel have a key role to play in this ongoing improvement process. In fact, this year around 46% of the maintenance team’s work has involved implementing improvement processes and standardisation.

In short, we want to do more with less, less human effort, less equipment, less time, less space, and offer our custom-ers the best within the required timescales. The strength of the company is the combined force of its employees, which makes it vital that everyone contributes to improvements. The combination of our ideas leads to the success of the company and its survival in this highly competitive market. w

RENAULT ZOE PREVIEWAn electric concept car with the size of a Clio, which will boast the new Renault identity and the new visual brand of the front. Its features are designed for the comfort of its occupants:

· Air conditioning that controls the hygrometry.

· Toxicity sensor for purer air.

· Diffuser of active, dynamic or relaxing scents (developed in collaboration with Biotherm).

· Light diffuser through the central screen to increase the feeling of well-being: Luminotherapy (collaboration with Philips).

CITROËN LACOSTECurious and original car with the brand Lacoste as the theme for the entire vehicle. This brand initially collaborated with the car sec-tor in the 80s with the launch of the Peugeot 205 Lacoste. This time the brand is involved with a concept leisure vehicle, which does not have doors and the roof is a central arch from which an inflatable top automatically deploys on rainy days. The dashboard is simply a display with oversized pixels. It is a happy and carefree prototype that cannot fail to make an impression.

KIA POPA small electric concept vehicle designed for moving around the city. It has three seats. Inspired by other aerodynamic and light elements outside the world of motorcars, such as gliders and competition bicycles. Futuristic appearance, for both the interior and the exterior.

This year, the Paris Motor Show included various new international launches. The eco-logical focus, a norm over the last few shows, was also present: electric, hybrid, plug-in, etc. Almost all the brands displayed at least one model with these characteristics. Many of these new “clean” vehicles are no longer simply projects or prototypes; they will soon be on sale. We want to show you some concept cars (most of them EV), as an example of the future trends

BMW CONCEPT 6 SERIES COUPÉAn elegant and refined interior, with every detail well thought out. The use of ochre tones and contrasts is a move away from the sober colours normally chosen by the manufacturer. Pure harmony for all the senses.

OPEL GTC PARISThe Opel GTC Paris is a prototype which provides a hint about the design of the future Astra GTC. The red and black colours used across the entire interior catch the eye. Phrases have been laser-etched into the upholstery of the seats in the central area.

SEAT IBEThis is an electric four seated super-compact coupe de-signed for urban mobility. The design is dynamic and sporty, but also practical. The shapes and use of light colours in its minimalist interior help to create a feeling of space and light in the vehicle. The SEAT Ibe received the prize for the best concept vehicle at the Paris Motor Show 2010.

NISSAN TOWNPODAn electric vehicle for both work and leisure. Its target mar-ket is the new entrepreneurs (the boundaries between their work and social lives have disappeared).

In terms of the interior, the plastic pieces on the back of the front seats are moveable and have a cushion folded into them, so that they turn into foot rests for the rear seats but don’t take up any space when not in use.

Another curious feature is what Nissan has called “puck”, which is a ball the size of a squash ball with a wide groove in the middle which allows it to hold drinks, mobiles, hand-bags hooks and other items. These are slotted into rounded holes set into the dashboard, doors and central console. The driver, and not the designer of the car, decides where to place them.

RANGE ROVER EVOQUEThis is the smallest, most efficient and lightest model in the history of this firm; it clearly combines sportsmanship style and innovative design. With no doubt, one of the real stars of the Show.

Our President received this latest recognition after recently also being awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Work, and on this occasion he was awarded the Economics Award 2010 for his entrepreneurship and hard work. There were more than enough reasons for him to be selected for this well deserved award. Óscar has been working at Grupo Antolin-Ara for more than seven years. The company manufactures seats and supplies customers such as Mercedes, Renault-Nissan, Suzuki-Santana, etc.

His current post focuses on the recovery of non-conforming products coming from: the production line and soldering posts, both manual and robotised. “I am also involved in managing internal rejection, constantly working with the engineering and quality departments, and this collaboration is one of the things that I find most interesting about my job” Óscar tells us.

Thanks to the range of posts he has worked in, he has a broad knowledge of the product, “I have worked in manual soldering posts, robotised soldering posts and on various assembly lines,

and this experience has been very useful in my current job” he says.

GA-Ara, along with the rest of the plants and the central headquarters, provides the city of Burgos with employment for hundreds of people, but it also collaborates in the training of professionals, working closely with the University of Burgos, “it is important to be part of a company such as Grupo Antolin-Ara, one which has been operating in Burgos for more than 40 years and that has become involved with its surroundings. In addition, it is one of the pioneering plants in the Group, and that makes us all feel proud”.

In terms of the workplace environment, he says that “we spend almost a third of our lives with our colleagues, so I try to have a good relationship with everyone. A good atmosphere helps everyone do their best work”.

Hamilton works in Grupo Antolin-Trimtec, one of our production plants in Brazil. It manufactures door panels, trays, sunvisors and pillars for customers, the largest of which are Volkswagen and Toyota.

His job consists of checking the pillars coming from the injection machine, seeing whether or not there are any signs of burr, injection marks, etc. “If a problem does exist, I notify the person in charge of the injectors and the head of shift. When everything is as it should be, I pack the part and place it in a rack for sending to the customer”.

Commitment, concentration, attention to detail and respect for the established quality procedures are important if everything is going to function correctly. Hamilton also says that the feature he likes best about his work is “having responsibility for the part that is delivered to the customer”.

“When I started in the company, there were around 100 people and the main technology was Woodstock. We basically supplied two customers. Today there are 600 people working in the company and the main

technology is plastic injection. We have many more customers and produce a wider range of products”, he tells us.

His 14 years working in different areas of the company have given him a great deal of experience and he has been able to add to this through attending courses, such as that given by SENAI on the Operation of Injection Machines, where he increased his knowledge of plastic injection.

Hamilton wants to emphasize the important job being carried out at Grupo Antolin in the city of Caçapava. “As well as sustaining many families in the region, we must be grateful for the implementation of INNOVERSIA, a professional qualification programme for the children of employees, which is giving many young people the opportunity for a better future. My son is part of this programme and as a father I am proud and thankful of seeing him doing work experience here, at my side”.

“My intention is to keep working for the company. I want to learn more and take part in new projects, but most of all see how my son grows professionally within the Group”, he concludes with excitement.

Shadrack works at the Port Elizabeth plant, one of the current four plants run by Grupo Antolin-South Africa. The plant mainly produces headliners for customers such as BMW, Volkswagen and Ford.

“I previously worked as team manager for the trim area and had 12 people reporting to me” he says when discussing his earlier experiences in the company.

“Nowadays, I am responsible for loading the headliners to be cut and ensuring that the waterjet completes correctly the cuts, according to robot specifications. If I identify a problem, such as leaking water or oil, I immediately stop the process and request the help of maintenance” he explains. “I like being able to perform this task, feeling responsible for the quality of the final product”, Shadrack added.

While talking about the most important aspects of his job, he says that “the two main priorities in my job are, firstly, guaranteeing the maximum safety of my colleagues and myself, and, secondly, producing defect-free components”.

“Over the last few years, the fact that we have obtained new orders has allowed the number of job opportunities to grow and a new generation of workers has been taken on” he says.

The city of Port Elizabeth has benefited from this increase in employment, “we are one of the few companies not to have cut staff as a result of the recession we have been experiencing. Grupo Antolin-South Africa also has another plant in the Eastern Cape region, in Uitenhage to be exact, which demonstrates its strong commitment to this area”.

In general, he says that he is satisfied with his job. “The relationship with my colleagues is great, and other than the fact that our wages are not as competitive as those in other automotive suppliers in the area, there are no real problems”, he emphasises.

“When I retire I hope to enjoy the results of my work in this company and to spend time with my family, most of all with my grandchildren”.

Basavaraj works at Grupo Antolin-Pune, one of the best known companies in India when it comes to the manufac-ture of internal car components, “we supply headliners, trays, sunvisors, door panels and window regulators for the main car manufacturers in India”, he explains.

He describes his job as; “I am the Line Manager in the tray area and I control the units produced and their quality. We are increasingly aware of the importance of productivity and quality, and as a result we try to resolve any problems at the earliest stage of development possible and prevent defects from recurring”.

“Throughout my professional career in this company I have gained a great deal of experience thanks to ongoing training and my superiors. This experience has helped me to align my objectives with those of the company as a whole”.

One of the greatest challenges is that GA-Pune has been gradually introducing new products, “we have implemented safety measures and production improvements in the assembly area. We always follow the Group procedures and systems and,

through suitable training, we instil this working culture in new operators. It is the best way to achieve the common goals of the Group Quality Policy”.

In the early days the Pune plant only worked for one customer, Fiat, “we were the suppliers of headliners and trays for the Fiat Uno. The situation has evolved over time and we are now working for most of the car manufacturers and we are leaders in the country in terms of headliners. We also help our customers with new ideas, keeping in mind the needs of the final user”.

“Our plant has contributed to the development of the city through the generation of employment for the inhabitants of Pune. We try to ensure that the company’s way of working and its culture feed through to our personal lives, making both environments pleasant and happy for all of us” he says proudly.

“We always work in a team and the relationship between the employees is good. In the future I would like to give back to the company a little of what I have received, giving training courses that help to achieve zero PPMs, a very important goal for the growth of our company”, a wish that we would all like to see come true.

From China, Wangyingying tells us about her three years with Antolin Shanghai Autoparts. “I work on the final assembly of headliners following instructions from our customers. I know that quality is our life and we therefore have strict controls that guaran-tee the highest possible quality product regardless of the type of vehicle it will be used in, high, me-dium or low range. This is also my principle”.

One way of maintaining the quality of the products is creating better tools that help to achieve this objective, “for example, we used a ruler to measure the size of a piece, but I realised that we were slowing down the process and it was not very stable, so I prepared a piece of cardboard that was the exact size of the piece, and we improved efficiency and stabilised control”, she tells us.

The quality of the products is as vital as producing them in a clean, healthy and comfortable environments “in this aspect we also try to avoid problems before they occur and look for solutions, for example avoiding contact with adhesives”.

“I feel at home when I am working. Each of us is a member of the family created by our company, and we help each other and work hard to maintain the good

image of the Group. We are all equally important, regardless of our specific tasks”, says Wangyingying.

“When I started work three years ago, my main concern was the need to obtain more orders to ensure that there was enough production to keep our jobs. Now, however, the opposite is true, we are producing much more and we have to maintain the quality demanded by the car manufacturers, and this requires a great effort from everyone”.

Many things have changed since she first entered the Group in 2007, “I am happier and I am satisfied with what I do. When I see a car out on the street which has an headliner that I have been involved with, in some way I feel fulfilled”.

This sense of belonging is not just the result of the job itself, as she tells us, “Antolin Shanghai Autoparts contributes to the development of Nanjing through creating direct and indirect (rental, logistics, etc.) employment”.

Over the next few years her professional ambition is to grow personally as the company grows “in my opinion, it is a promising company, which is expanding rapidly but robustly, its corporate culture is enthusiastic and it creates a harmonious workplace atmosphere”.

From Grupo Antolin-Kentucky, an Overhead System Busi-ness Unit plant, Kimberly Hillyard talks to us about her early days in the company and how the crisis affecting the entire world economy, and particularly the automotive sector, has been overcome.

Kimberly joined Grupo Antolin-Kentucky ten years ago, and although some of her relatives working in other sectors advised her to opt for a different career, she does not regret her decision. “We have very competitive salaries, good social benefits and the company cares about its individual employees” she says. “Our HR Department is the best, always ready to help us, regardless of the problem. They listen to us and they know and take an interest in each employee by name. I have no idea how they manage it, but they do”.

“I have worked in different assembly areas and I am currently working in the quality control area detecting defects in products, such as tears or lacerations to surface A, unglued wires, faults with lights, etc. At times I perform reworks and help with analyzing quality. Once all the components are finally approved, I double check the labels and place the product in the correct area for its shipping” she tells us.

It appears that vehicle sales in the USA have recovered over the last few months “for my family and for myself it has meant a lot that the plant has continued running during

the economic downturn. Despite the fact that I was periodically laidoff, in the end I was able to retain and keep my job. Other companies in the area have closed, but thanks to good management and plantwide cooperation, we have continued operating”, she tells us proudly.

Grupo Antolin-Kentucky, like the rest of the plants in the Group, has been concerned about cost reduction “with the implementation of the 5S there have been significant operational and cost management improvements”.

When she speaks about her colleagues, she has nothing but praise for them all, “I think of my current team as my family and I miss them when they are not there. It is important to have a team in which each person is ready to help the rest and the leader, always giving their best. When I am with them I know that I can focus on my job and not worry about other issues that could interfere with what I am doing, because my colleagues are there”.

“My team leaders have been a great inspiration as to how I perfom my work today, always demanding high quality, good production and safe working habits. They are always ready to give food instructions and help when needed” comments Kimberly.

On asking her about her future, she explains that over the next few years she can see herself as a lottery winner or retired, enjoying her grandchildren.

Our colleague František works as a production su-pervisor in Grupo Antolin-Turnov, one of the main plastic injection plants in the company. “This is a key position in terms of people management, since it simultane-ously ensures that the production process is work-ing properly and that the required quality is being achieved” comments František.

“I currently supervise 120 employees involved in 13 different projects, which means that I need specific knowledge about each particular project, as well as great flexibility to solve any problems that arise”. One of the systems used in the plant is called ANDON*, “this system has been very useful for us, and in terms of problem solving, operating meetings with colleagues from different departments is the most efficient method that we have found”, says František.

The “good ideas” of everyone at Grupo Antolin-Turnov also help them manage their tasks. “Individually, they are just little pieces but, on coming together, they create a mosaic, an overview which shows us the positive steps taken”.

One of the latest initiatives, jointly run with the HR department, is substitute matrices, which have been “greatly welcomed, even by our customers” he says. “These matrices allow us to identify who has completed certain training and where they are, which allows us to reassign our efforts according to requirements”.

This year has been a challenge for the plant, due to the wide range of new projects that have entered production, and it has led to demands on human resources, quality and engineering.

In terms of his relationship with his colleagues, he responds very positively. “You could say that our relationship is as personal as it is professional. Many of them even tell me about their problems and I try to help them by giving them advice”.

František feels proud to work in a company that is involved with his city and that is helping to make it an interesting place to live through its involvement in not-for-profit or-ganisations for young people and sports. “In terms of the next 10 years, I would like to remain at Grupo Anto-lin-Turnov, gaining the experience and language skills that will help me to improve my performance”.

*ANDON is a system for identifying problems in the plant. It comes from Japan. Each line has a light which can be turned on by the operator if a problem is detected.

Health Monitoring

“A challenge for the future in Grupo Antolin-RyA”

Grupo Antolin-RyA

Health Monitoring is defined as the control and super-

vision of the health of the employees to prevent the

appearance of work-related illnesses. In this article,

Grupo Antolin-RyA explains why Health Monitoring is

a fundamental tool for improving working conditions,

reducing accidents and maintaining the competitive-

ness of the company

Over the last few years, Grupo Antolin-RyA has seen significant changes in terms of both the products and the technology used, and this has brought with it the need to constantly update health and safety management.

We have gone from manufacturing seat covers in a way which basically depen-ded on the skills of the employees, to manufacturing door panels and trays using the most advanced technology.

This evolutionary process has led to significant changes in the accidents taking place, and in 2003 there were more 40 accidents involving sick leave.

Since then, and using the Grupo Antolin Health and Safety Management System as a guide and framework for improvement, we have been working to achieve the results seen today.

“Two basic elements have

been the training and

education of personnel

so that they can carry out

their work in a way which

KEY FACTORS

The main key factors in reducing accidents and achieving these results have been:

PERSEVERANCE, TENACITY AND COMMITMENT TO OVERCOMING PROBLEMS

The commitment to Health and Safety across the whole of Grupo Antolin-RyA, starting with the Management, Middle Managers, Health and Safety Personnel, Health and Safety Representatives and the rest of the employees, has been reinforced by their per-severance and tenacity in overcoming problems that have arisen.

INTEGRATION OF WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY INTO THE DAILY MANAGEMENT OF THE COMPANY

Health and Safety has gradually been integrated into the daily activity of the company. For example, in the design of new pro-cesses, in the purchase of equipment, raw material and chemi-cal products, and in the maintenance of machines and facilities.

COMMUNICATION AND TRAINING ABOUT HEALTH AND SAFETY

Two basic elements in this issue have been the training and education of personnel so that they can carry out their work in a way which is healthy and safe, and communication to maintain awareness.

ACTIONS CARRIED OUT

The actions carried out over these years have been focussed on controlling the two main workplace risks: Overexertion and exposure to chemicals.

As a result, Health Monitoring has been a fundamental activity and a necessary complement to the evaluations and studies of safety, hygiene and ergonomics.

The main principles of Health Monitoring have been:

- To detect, as soon as possible, if an employee is suffer-ing from a work-related illness.

- Find out if the health problems of a group are caused by their work.

- Check whether the health and safety measures imple-mented are effective.

The following specific actions have been carried out:

1. Information and Awareness Raising across the entire work-force, explaining what Health Monitoring is.

2. Analysis of the Risk Evaluations by the doctors in collabora-tion with the Health and Safety professionals.

3. Identification of the medical protocols to apply to each job, with their specific tests, on the basis of the workplace risks that exist. For example, the job working with leather door inserts now involves screening to detect the presence of chemicals in the urine and/or blood.

4. Visits to our facilities by the Health Monitoring doctors.

5. Research into workplace accidents and illnesses reported to establish the necessary corrective action.

6. Coordination between the Company, Health and Safety Ser-vice, and the Workplace Accident-Illnesses Insurance Com-pany to ensure the total and rapid recovery of employees who have been injured or fallen ill.

FUTURE CHALLENGES

Health Monitoring has become a real challenge for the fu-ture. The aim is to be capable of adapting to new processes, products and technologies while retaining our competitiveness level, taking into account developments in the workforce (in-crease in average age, staff turnover, etc.).

This, with no doubt, requires effective Health Monitoring to ensure that we keep our employees healthy, managing this appropriately and guaranteeing confidentiality in terms of the results. At Grupo Antolin-RyA we believe that “a healthy com-pany is a competitive company”. w

International Expansion Award from “Capital” magazine The business magazine “Capital” pre-sented awards to the large companies in Burgos representing the business and institutional sectors.

These awards are intended to highlight the business and institutional models in Burgos, a city that has focused on the mixture of tradition and modernity, science and culture, and innovation and sustainability, for its development.

Within the business sector, Grupo An-tolin won the International Expansion Award for its unstoppable growth and its presence in 22 countries. Ernesto An-tolin Arribas, our Vice-Chairman, collec-ted the award at the ceremony which was held on 15 November in the Burgos Principal Theatre. This was attended by the main representatives from the busi-ness, financial, political, cultural and me-dia sectors within the city.

Awards were also received by Gru-po Leche Pascual and Arranz Aci-nas, for their business performance (Sonia Pascual García-Cuétara and Jesús Arranz); by Grupo Aciturri, for innovation (Ginés Clemente); by Grupo Promecal, for its transforma-tion (Antonio Méndez Pozo) and by Grupo Mahou-San Miguel, for its commitment to the city (José Ma-nuel Buesa). There was also a special mention for Nuclenor, the company managing Santa María de Garoña (Martín Regaño).

In the institutional sector, there were awards for the Human Evolution Complex, with awards being given to the National Research Centre on Human Evolution (Cenieh), (Juan Ca-sado, Director General of Universities and Research at the Regional Gover-nment), to the Museum of Human Evolution (Javier Vicente, Director) and to the Auditorium (Diego Mal-vido, Counsellor for Culture). The event closed with an award for the University Hospital, collected by To-más Tenza, managing director of the Health Complex. w

Last May, our plants Grupo An-tolin-Turnov and Silesia launched, very successfully, the first order of pillars for Volvo. Specifically for the new Volvo S60 sport sedan pro-duced in the Ghent plant in Bel-gium with a rate of 1,600 vehicles per week.

Thanks to the success of the S60, in September the V60 was launched. It is the station wagon version made in Torslanda, Swe-den, with a volume of 1,200 vehi-cles per week.

The requirements in terms of per-ceived quality and perfect fit and finish have been met thanks to the care and thoroughness with which our plants have worked. Congrat-ulations to all the people involved for the results achieved.

We hope this is the beginning of a long and successful collaboration with the Swedish manufacturer. w

2010 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Conferences: Our footprint in society Emma Antolin, on behalf of the Group and as Head of CSR, had the opportunity to participate on 27 October, together with other representatives of business and labour organizations as well as large industrial companies of Burgos, in a panel discussion during which she explained CSR draft defined by our company for the coming years.

This round table, meeting at the Red Hall of Teatro Principal in Burgos, put an end to a cycle of training sessions and conferences on Corporate Social Respon-sibility held every Wednesday of October. w

Second Prize for GA-Ara in the Q-Innovauto AwardsThe XV Quality and Environment in the Automotive Sector Congress, organ-ised by the Spanish Quality Association (AEC), was held in Pamplona on 21 and 22 October.

In this Congress, Grupo Antolin-Ara came second in the 2009 Q-INNOVAU-TO Awards in the section for Quality Im-provement for the work “Screwed seat back to cushion”.

This development, which had already won an internal award in 2008 when it came first in the best improvement group, involved incorporating into the production process the task of screwing the seat back to the seat cushion.

As a result of this change, the painting process was optimised (moving from two shifts to one), and there was an improvement in the organisation of the plant, as well as different ergonomic and environmental improvements. w

Clean Company Certificate Awarded to Grupo Antolin-Silao After several years working in the field of pollution prevention and responsible man-agement of waste, in Grupo Antolin-Silao we receive the fruits of this commitment, a further step; we have achieved Clean Company Certification at the State level.

What is Certification as Clean Company?

It is a comprehensive administrative tool that includes an integral, systematical evaluation; that is documented of how the company, its administration, and en-tire team behave with the objective to safeguard the environment.

Therefore we submitted to the environ-mental audit, in which we were assessed for our performance in the control and prevention of pollution in:

· Atmosphere.

· Air.

· Water.

· Ground.

· Responsible management of hazard-ous and special waste.

· Risk and environmental impact.

It does not mean that we are free from contaminates, rather that we operate under the precept and philosophy of continuous process improvement. It means that our emissions, spills and residues (dangerous and non-danger-ous), are under control, since preserv-ing the environmental balance is part of our commitment and business.

As result of our practices of preser-vation and environmental control, Grupo Antolin- Silao has been recog-nized with the Clean Company Cer-tificate, granted by the Environmental Protection Office of the State of Gua-najuato. Our next step is to achieve recognition at the Federal level; we are already working towards that achievement. w

New plant in China Chengdu Antolin Huaxiang Auto Inte-rior Trim Co., Ltd is the name of a new plant whose construction is nearing completion in China.

Located in the city of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in southwest Chi-na, its main customer is the joint ven-ture created by Volkswagen and the lo-cal manufacturer FAW to whom it will supply headliners.

This plant is 100% owned by Gongzhu-ling Antolin Huaxiang, a society 47% owned by the Group.

It is expected that the construction of the plant in Chengdu will finalise in March 201 w

40th Anniversary of Ford Saarlouis To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Ford Saarlouis (Germany) held an open day on 14 July which was attended by more than 30,000 people.

On this very special day, the company opened its doors to the general public, and everyone could join the large party held in a big tent, enjoying various performances (robots, demonstra-tions from the fire brigade, etc.).

All Ford Saarlouis suppliers were given the opportunity to pre-sent their company in different areas inside the Ford plant set aside for this purpose. Our Saarlouis plant was allocated a

40 m2 exhibition room, in which it displayed its main prod-ucts, from plastic pieces to overhead systems, through large explanatory panels along the route followed by visitors. There was also a video to demonstrate the key features of our pro-duction. There was even a performance throughout the day from a very special magician, our colleague Paul Bindara (from the Hardtrim team), who kept the youngest visitors happy with magic games, balloons and tricks.

Throughout the day, the people from our plant and the Hardtrim team answered questions and cleared up doubts raised by the visitors.

We would like to thank all of our colleagues who helped out during the event and also those involved in the run up to the event, helping with the organisation and assembly of the ex-hibition room. Good work! w

We launch a new edition of Junior Engineer Program Junior ENGINEER is a scholarship pro-gram that offers theoretical and practi-cal training in different centers of Gru-po Antolin worldwide.

This year, the program that began in October 2010 will focus on the plastic competence, and the 13 candidates al-ready selected will have a postgradua-te scholarship.

During the first two weeks these 13 youth have participated in theoretical training at the headquarters of the Group.

They will be trained, on the next 6 months, in one of the following plants as they are assigned:

· GA-Aragusa (Spain)

· GA-Cambrai (France)

· GA-Martorell (Spain)

· GA-Plasbur (Spain)

· GA-RyA (Spain)

· GA-Turnov (Czech Republic)

· GA-Vosges (France)

Finally, the will have 3 months of spe-cialization in a final destination, either at Headquarters or in a production site.

The total length of Pool Engineers is nine and a half months where we offer the opportunity for students and recently graduates of having their first contact with the labour world.

Firstly, we expect students to be for-med in an international environment that helps them growing and maturing not only professionally but also as in-dividuals, and secondly, that our com-pany has a pool of engineers prepared in its activity, contributing to increase its competitiveness. w

In mid-October, our plant in Rus-sia started making door panels of the new Hyundai Solaris that the Korean company is about to launch into the Russian market. It is also the first panel manufac-tured in the Group’s new plant in Russia, which has meant, therefo-re, its starting project, along with the headliner, and whose release has run parallel to the start of this new facility.

The vehicle has 2 versions, the 4-door which production has mo-ved forward to December 2010, and the 5-door that has to be launched in May 2011. Both to-gether will mean the production of 100,000 cars annually, and could be more, if the forecasted increase in demand that Hyundai is considering today happens. w

OUR FIGURES

Launching of the new VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT in SpainThis model is manufactured in Germa-ny in 2 versions:

· Limousine in the plants of VW Emden and Sachsen

· Variant in VW Emden

In Spain it is on sale since October. Our col-laboration in this model is based on 2 prod-ucts: the door panels and the headliner.

DOOR PANELS

We provide 3 models of door panels with more than 200 variants.

The development of the door panels has been a real challenge for the group as they integrate a wide disparity of tech-nologies (injection, spray-skin, slush, thermal forming, ultra-sound welding, riveting by heat ...). This complexity has required the management of more than 40 direct suppliers.

The panels are injected and welded in GA-Turnov, while GA-Sachsen and GA-Emden, weld and assemble the com-ponents that create the greatest diver-sity. Then, they are sequenced to the respective VW plants.

“ANMUTUNG” the love of detailsThe VW consortium has launched an awareness campaign about the im-portance of perceived quality as a key and differentiating feature of their products. The campaign will be imple-mented in its plants in Spain (Pamplo-na and Martorell) and its suppliers.

Anmutung* is what we perceive and feel on seeing, hearing, touching and smelling a certain object. While many aspects of quality can be objectively measured, Anmutung Quality is mea-sured subjectively. Quality is the har-mony between the features of the product and the demands of the cus-tomer: It is vitally important to know the context of the demands of the most critical.

Competition is not between “pro-ducts”, it is between perceptions, tho-se that the customers have about the “products” and the companies. Qua-lity is more than mechanical reliability, Quality also means appearance and design:

· Materials that are pleasant to the touch and robust (that do not give a feeling of fragility), above all for the dashboard.

· Modern and original design which has been well thought out (appears to have been worked on), with de-tails capable of arousing interest.

· Fabrics pleasant to touch.

· Absence of squeak and rattle.

· Fit and finish: absence of gaps; per-fect fit for the doors.

· Ergonomics in the driving seat.

At Grupo Antolin, we have passed on the communication to all of the plants that supply products to VW in Spain. The objective is to raise awareness across the entire organisation about the importance of the perceived quality of our components as a vital element of our continuing position in the market. Similarly, we have introduced initiatives designed to improve the quality of our pieces through product audits from the customer point of view, which require us to take action to improve the percep-tion of the products. w

In short, the university has done a real ap-proach to the needs of the company with similar tools to what we use in our daily work. w

Race motorbike project of the University of Burgos On October 29th a team of stu-dents from the School of Indus-trial Engineering of Burgos made a presentation to Mechanisms area of the Door function BU about a race motorbike project.

Encompassed in an initiative raised 2 years ago, the project was developed by this group of students in competition with 26 other engineering schools in Spain, and creates product solu-tions to achieve a prototype to be tested in the circuit of Alcañiz (Aragón-Spain).

Also, the student team develops a business plan that raises the mass production of 500 motorcycles a year.

The result of this magnificent work has won the fifth place, which honors the efforts of the students involved.

Peugeot

In 2010 year, Peugeot has an important anniversary to celebrate; it has

been 200 years since the company was established and 120 years since

it has started working in the automotive industry

celebrates its 200-year history

The company with the lion as its emblem and the “Peugeot” as the name started its busi-ness in 1810 by making household goods and eventually coffee grinders and sewing ma-chines. From this point they evolved making bicycles, wires and other kinds of metal prod-ucts for everyday use.

The automotive adventure started in 1888 when Armand Peugeot, one of the brothers who established the company, started leading Peugeot into motor car production. Fascinated by his idea, he gets into talks with Gottlieb Daimler and creates the first motor vehicle in 1889. Steam-driven three-wheeler called the Serpollet-Peugeot is the beginning of the adventure that keeps evolving until nowadays.

So how does Peugeot celebrate this momentous 200 years?

We can notice the reorganization of the company to meet the challenges of the 21st century by moving into diesel/elec-tric hybrid production. This step forward will commence with the 3008 Hybrid model arriving in summer 2011.

On the Paris Motor Show this year the company presented its latest ideas including the new 508, that will start being produced in the beginning of 2011, as well as concepts like iOn, HR1, EX1(two-seater concept car built to commemorate its relevant anniversary) or two-seater called BB1 which may see a mass production in the near future.

Evolution of the lion

The lion in the logo of the Peugeot has been going through lots of changes during its long history. Until now the company has presented 9 different designs of its famous emblem depending on the products they were manufacturing at the moment. To underline the changes that the company is going through lately and to prepare itself for coming challenges of electric vehicles of the future, Peugeot has redesigned its lion again.

Grupo Antolin and Peugeot

Grupo Antolin accompanies Peugeot in its innovation strategy. Our company supplies Peugeot with such products as head-liner substrates, sun visors, door trim panels, seats and win-dow regulators. As the latest project in which Grupo Antolin participated we can mention the model for emerging markets M3/M4 for which Grupo Antolin was selected as a supplier of headliners. We hope that we will continue taking part in Peugeot’s future developments by supplying our innovative products for the cars of the future. w
