“You don’t need fancy gear or expertise or money,” says Clarin’s Jimena
Olazar, “so there are no excuses for not joining this new phenomenon.”
Seasoned runners and would-be corredores in Buenos Aires also have a
great support network from the local Club de Corredores to Runnin’
Magazine with over 12,000 Facebook friends to the City of Buenos
Aires herself which offers Buenos Aires Corre, free running education
and training in five locations throughout Capital Federal.
Who Runs Buenos Aires? It’s a good question to ask considering this is an election
year in Argentina. Last year we wrote that BA had suddenly become A Runner’s Paradise. This year the sport
has exploded with bigger races, better courses, more sponsors and, most importantly, runners.
Clarín says the “Boom de Carreras” is drawing 20% more participants than last year while female participation
has grown 50% over the past decade. The sport’s beauty is its simplicity.
A lot more.
The 2009 Edition of the Nike 10K converted Libertador Avenue Into A Sea of Blue.

Running teams in BA, Rosario, Córdoba and Mendoza, both informal and
corporate-sponsored, are also growing at a phenomenal rate: 600% since
2001. And the payoff for all that training? Huge weekend races that feel
more like a party than a pounding. Part road race, part rock concert, part
love parade with thousands donning the requisite race shirt, road races in
Buenos Aires are the most fun you can have with your shoes on.
We Run Buenos Aires, Nike’s annual 10K has become one of the most
anticipated events on the running calendar. For the 2010 edition, the streets
were bathed in a sea of day-glo green shirts, and Nike further solidified its
reputation as the brand synonymous with running in Argentina. (Race Video) The 2010 We Run Buenos Aires 10K with the Obelisk in the Background
Oportunidades de Franquicia
Hooray for Hollywood. Hooray for Argentina.
The 2011 edition of We Run Buenos Aires will take over the
streets of BA on November 12, and this year’s color choice
would make any die-hard Florida Gator, Clemson Tiger or
Holland National Team fan (all Nike-sponsored clubs) proud.
This year’s WRBA also promises to be one of the most high-tech
and viral road races thanks in part to Nike + technology and the
social networking tools employed during the online registration
process. When registering for the race, runners are given the
option of e-mailing four friends, tweeting their registration,
posting on their own facebook page and even receiving SMS
updates on their smartphone including their finish time the
minute they cross the line.
Another year, another race, more proof of who really runs
Buenos Aires. If Nike continues to dominate the local landscape,
runners may begin to think BA stands for “Beaverton, Argentina.”

Spring also means polo in Buenos Aires, and we preview the three jewels of the Triple Crown, look under the hood of the new Audi La Dolfina Q7 and count down the Top 10 polo players in the world including Argentines Pablo Mac Donough, Facundo Pieres and Adolfo Cambiaso. After a few chukkers, we’ll board a Pluna jet and fly back to Punta del Este. To top it off, we check-in for sunset at the Estancia Vik and find out how a luxury hotel and modern art merge to create a 4,000 acre shrine to the best of Uruguay.
On a macro level, the economic malaise and uncertainty impacting other corners of the globe continues fueling a flight to growth in Argentina and Uruguay. Locally, real estate remains the preferred asset for those seeking capital preservation and income-producing properties. From Buenos Aires condos to Mendoza vineyards to Punta del Este chacras, InvestBA can help you find the perfect property. And we are very pleased to welcome Uruguay’s Gasalla Inmobiliaria to our exclusive InvestBA family of boutique brokers.
