Dear Parents and Caregivers
After a solid term of learning, many students and teachers are now completing assessments and exams. This term
we will email report cards to parents and caregivers as a trial for the issuing of report cards. A mid-semester
interim report card will be issued to students in Year 6 to Year 10. If you would like a printed hard copy of your
child/children’s report card please contact the office.
We have received the feedback from the Priority Support School Review. Thank you to all members of our school
community who provided feedback to the reviewers. A copy has been placed on our website (see link below). https://dimbulahss.eq.edu.au/supportandresources/formsanddocuments/documents/2020/eib_dimbulah%20state%20school_executive%20summary_2020.pdf
Yesterday our Year 6
students attended the
Indigenous Youth
Parliament in Cairns.
Tyriahna Starkey, Janice
Lyall, Anthea Archer and
Dylan Cobb participated in
a youth parliamentary
debate under the watchful
eye of the speaker of the
house, the Hon Mr Curtis
Pitt. Students performed
the role of members of the
opposition and spoke for
and against motions about
recognising eminent
Indigenous Australians and
the establishment of
regional recycling centres.
Students also spent time
with our local member, the
Hon Mr Shane Knuth,
Member for Hill.
Mr Jason Kurfurst will be
finishing at Dimbulah State
School next Thursday. Mr Kurfurst will be moving to Mareeba State High School, to take up a position in the
special education unit. Special education is Mr Kurfurst’s preferred teaching area. I would like to thank Mr
Kurfurst for his work at DSS across the last two years. We wish him every success in his new role.
On Thursday 17 September we will be running our inter-house cross country. The day will begin at 9.00am with
the lower primary fun run and conclude with the secondary student’s event starting at approximately 10.10am.
Details are still being finalised and will be communicated shortly. After the completion of the cross country
students in Year 2 to Year 9 will participate in a class-swap fundraiser organised by the Student Council.
Our first Prep Open day will occur next Friday 11 September. ALL members of the community are welcome and
invited to come and see first-hand the great learning opportunities which our school provides. Please come
along, enjoy a cuppa and have a look.
Regards
Tuki Brown

National Bullying. No Way! Day was another casualty of covid-19. However, students at Dimbulah State School were
given a reminder of the support available at school and external sources including https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/
and KidsHelpline 1800 1800 55 1800 . These sources provide great information and resources for all students and
families to access at any time.
Our School Nurse Sam and GO Ms. Zupp set up a display at lunchtime for students to come along and have a chat
about what bullying might look like and more importantly, what they can do to stop this from happening, not only to
themselves, but also their friends. Students were given some promotional material including arm bands, bag tags
and contact information for support networks.
Mrs Cagnola rewarded these four students for demonstrating leadership during an activity with younger
students. Well done! (Don’t tell Mr Brown about the Flake bars, they’re his favourite!)
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY from
Tuesday’s 2nd break Art Club.
After two weeks of no Art Club, we crafted some
birds on Tuesday 25th August. Most of the birds
flew away before we could photograph them.
These were the only ones that stayed around for a
photo.
YEAR 8 L.O.T.E MAKING PASTA- #handmade, no machines needed.
