TIRINKOT - Internally Dis-placed Persons (IDPs) in central Uruzgan province have been afraid and worried of returning to their homes as the Taliban planted landmines in the area.Police chief Col. Mohammad Khetab Khanjari said at least 70 landmines were recovered and defused in Kabutarkhan area of Tirinkot City, the provincial capital so far.He said the militants had plant-ed the mines on roads, bridges, culverts, foot parks, house and mosques during their three-year-control in order to prevent the entry of security forces.However, the security forces had cleared the area from Taliban’s presence two months back but the residents could not go back due to landmines, he added.According to Khanjari, security personnel carried out air-and-ground operation in Khanqa area over the past 72 hours and killed 24 militants.On the other hand, six other re-bels had been killed in artillery strike in eastern part of Tirinkot, he said, assuring that operation against ...(More on P4)...(10)
