Executive Summary: Online retailers seeking to deliver superior web experiences have faced a seemingly insoluble conflict: users are demanding more interactive and personalized online shopping experiences with much larger, higher-quality product images. These same users then expect the retailer’s richer, more complex site to load and run faster. But maintaining re-sponsiveness on these more immersive sites is difficult, especially over congested wireless networks to mobile devices. CDNs and other legacy web delivery solutions cannot address these new challenges as they were primarily designed to work with an older version of the wired Internet.

Much like the technologies used to deliver streaming video and streaming Windows desktop applica-tions, Instart Logic has invented a CDN replacement technology called Web Application Streaming that allows a user to begin experiencing a website after only a portion of it has been downloaded This is done by dividing web pages and their component parts into many smaller fragments, and intelligently sending the most important fragments first The remainder then streams in the background, providing a full-fidelity experience
