The only difference between the MEMS duo and quatro is that the MEMS – duo supports up to 2 cards and the MEMS – quatro supports up to 4 cards. When looking at using analogue inputs such as 4-20mA a single card can support 4 signals meaning a single “MEMS – Quad Analogue Input Card” can have 4x 4-20mA signals mea- sured concurrently hence this will give the MEMS – duo 8x 4-20mA signal inputs whilst the MEMS – quatro can have 16x 4-20mA signals. To add extra flexiablity we’ve added expansion ports on the MEMS – duo and MEMS – quatro so as to dai- sy chain the units therefore increasing the number of I/O’s in a single system. A maximum of 32 units can be daisy chained therefore a maximum of 512x 4-20mA (32x 16x 4-20mA) signals can be made available. The MEMS – duo and MEMS – quatro units offers the following standard features (without I/O cards): - Humidity sensor - Barometric pressure sensor - Ambient temperature sensor - Built in Audio & Visual alarm driver (for use with Audio Visual devices available from EX Solutio Engineering). - MODBUS RTU - Built-in RS485 Repeater - LCD for system information and device setup such as sensor calibration. - 5 User button for function controls and device setup - Expansion ports for daisy chaining (within close proximity ≤ 5m). The Ex Solutio Engineering product range of thee Multiple Environmental Monitoring System (MEMS) devices have been designed for use in harsh mining environments such as hazadous areas however not limited to mining alone as its rich features make it suitable also for industrial and commercial applications. The units are configurable via a card system to handle various inputs from sensors to voltage and current inputs and also offer outputs to control just about anything required to switch on/off or variable output signals. The compact design allows the unit to just about be installed anywhere. Currently there are two controllers in production (shown above), they are:

- “ MEMS – duo ” at 130mm(w) x 135mm(d) x 60mm(h) - “ MEMS – quatro ” at 220mm(w) x 135mm(d) x 60mm(h).

Various cards are available for the various inputs and outputs and have been designed to minimise space within the MEMS duo/quatro to a size of 40mm(w) x 55mm(d) x 12mm(h). Both the MEMS duo and quatro use the same cards so there is no special requirements when ordering for one or the other making the system simpler to use as they are interchangable. The only difference between the MEMS duo and quatro is that the MEMS – duo supports up to 2 cards and the MEMS – quatro supports up to 4 cards. When looking at using analogue inputs such as 4-20mA a single card can support 4 signals meaning a single “MEMS – Quad Analogue Input Card” can have 4x 4-20mA signals mea-sured concurrently hence this will give the MEMS – duo 8x 4-20mA signal inputs whilst the MEMS – quatro can have 16x 4-20mA signals. To add extra flexiablity we’ve added expansion ports on the MEMS – duo and MEMS – quatro so as to dai-sy chain the units therefore increasing the number of I/O’s in a single system.

DATA LOGGING The cards currently available for the MEMS – duo and MEMS – quatro are listed below, however client specific cards can also be made if required: • Quad 4-20mA / 0.4-2V Inputs

• 4 Analogue Inputs which either input can be configured as 4-20mA or 0.4-2V input • Quad 4-20mA / 0.4-2V Ouputs

• 4 Analogue Outputs which either output can be configured as 4-20mA or 0.4-2V output • Dual Relay Output, Voltage free contacts from the Relays: NO, NC and COM available • Dual CH4 Sensor (pellistor type). • Single Electrochemical Cell Gas Sensor, the following various gases are available at various ranges:

• Carbon Monoxide – CO• Carbon Dioxde - CO2• Ammonia - NH3• Sulphur dioxide SO2• Nitric/Nitrogen Oxide - NO• Nitrogen Dioxide - NO2• Oxygen – O2• Hydrogen sulphide - H2S• Others not listed can be accommodated

• Quad Opto-Isolated Digital Input (5-24V) • Quad Opto-Isolated Digital Output (Open collector Output)

Future cards that will be available soon: • Dual 0-15Hz input (Opto-Isolated and non-isolated) • Dual Frequency Input… up to 20MHz input (Opto-Isolated and non-isolated). • Dual PWM/Frequency Output (Opto-Isolated and non-isolated). • CH4 Infra-Red 0-100% and 0-5% • Hepta (7) Digital Input (3V-24V) non-isolated • Hepta (7) Digital Output (3V) non-isolated • Quad Relay Output Voltage Free. Selectable Contact NO or NC with COM output • SimpKey and VanceKey conveyor belt pullkey system control cards

• SimpKey is an Analogue system. Numbering is limited due to losses in cable quailty whichs affect the trip numbering system. Current distance record is 8km belt using a single 24V Power Supply

• VanceKey is an Digital system, new system design to overcome the draw backs of an analogue system. Distance is yet to be determined based on application of the type units required (i.e: Belt tear/misalignment detectors). For a straight forward pullkey system it’s estimated to perform just as well as the Analog system using a single power supply!

Location:Each location needs to be considered in its own right, with reference to the safety authorities and in compliance with mandatory local safety regulations. The sensor must be operated in accordance with the installation and operating data to maintain safety, reliability and to preserve Intrinsic Safety integrity where applicable.

It is important that sensors are located in positions determined in consultation with those who have specialised knowl-edge of the plant or installation. Reference should also be made to those responsible for the engineering layout of the plant.

It is also important to recognise that the characteristics of the gas source can be influenced by many factors, including the relative density of the gas, the pressure at the point of release, the ambient temperature and the ventilation of the site.

Sensors need to be sited where they are capable of monitoring those parts of the plant where gas may accumulate or where a sours of gas is expected to occur. This way the warning of a gas release can be given to initiate shutdown functions, alarm functions or safe evacuation of the premises.

System Integrity:If a gas monitoring system should fail for any reason, it is important that the system is capable of immediately alerting operational staff to this fact. The sensor will indicate a system failure or mechanical defect and this information can be used to warn an alarm. It is good practice to provide emergency facilities (UPS) to protect against the loss of the mains power supply. A UPS can be incorporated in to the monitoring system, this is to guarantee the continued sensing for gasses in the hazardous locations. Waterproof plug and socket connectors are used.

Sensor Management:An important part of an efficient gas monitoring sensor and system is the training required by the plant personnel in the operation and maintenance of such a system.Training can be provided by the qualified Ex Solutio engineers.

Once a gas sensor system installation has been completed, the sensor location and type should be formally recorded and a planned test and maintenance procedure instituted.

The response of the sensor is linear across the complete sensing range making it equally suitable for operation in the LEL range.

The tables below list some characteristics of the most popular Gas sensors used. Other Gas types not list can be ac-quired if by request.
