Undoubtedly, the main attraction o the Grand
Harbour is the imposing Bastions o the ortied
cities o Valletta and the Tree cities, together
with the skyline o their baroque churches,
provide the perect backdrop and one o the
Worlds Deepest natural harbours.
Valletta the Capital city dates back to the 16th
Century. Built during the rule o the Order o
St. John o Jerusalem, also known as Knights
Hospitaller. Te city is essentially Baroque in
character, with elements o Mannerist, Neo-
Classical and Modern architecture in selected
areas, though World War II lef major scars to
this historic city. Te City o Valletta was
ocially recognized as a World Heritage Site by
UNESCO in 1980.
Te Tree Cities, on the other hand, oer
an intriguing insight into Maltas history, an
authentic slice o Maltas maritime tradition. Te
Tree Cities also lay claim to being the cradle o
Maltese history. Vittoriosa and Senglea, situated
on rocky promontories jutting into Grand
Harbour, as well as Cospicua, located at the end
o the creek between the two, have provided both
a home as well as protection to successive waves
o settlers on the Island. In act, historians have
declared that the areas harbour inlets have been
in use since Phoenician times.
Tere are various natural creeks which make up
the Grand Harbour, amongst which there is a
Yacht Marina with the imposing Fort St Angelo
within Vittoriosa which today is considered to be
the jewel in the crow o Maltese Heritage.
Over the last ew years a joint eort between local
organizations, has been done to establish Grand
Harbour as a main hub or Cruise Liners to be
able to cater or this thriving industry. Tere are a
total o 5 berth with a quay length o 777 Metres.
Grand HarbourThe Grand Harbour, still plays a vital role in Maltas economy, with a constant flow
of cargo ships coming in to load and unload, while others wait to be repaired at the
