The RigRunner H-series of Horizontal Gel Units offers the most versatile solution for DNA

and RNA agarose gel electrophoresis currently available. All five units offer an unsurpassed

combination of economy of gel and buffer volume, with gel size and sample number versatility. Gel

size and sample number requirements can be exactly matched in each unit, with the option of additional

gel tray sizes. This eliminates the need for multiple gel tanks for changes in gel size or application.

All units feature removable UV transparent trays. For optimum value and versatility, systems are

available with one, two or three tray options (dependent on model). Easy to use, leak proof ‘plug and

go’ gel casting dams are included as standard to allow gels to be rapidly cast while the RigRunner

unit is in use for gel running. With no indentations or casting gate grooves in the tray to interfere

with sample progression, traditional tape casting can be used, if preferred.

Although lid connectors are compatible with most major power supplies, when required, adapters areavailable to provide complete compatibility.

H-MIDI96RigRunner H-MIDI96 Gel Systemis ideal for high throughputelectrophoresis of PCR productsor samples containing a smallnumber of DNA bands.

The gel dimensions and comb formatcorrespond to the standard microplateformat, with additional lanes formarkers. Two different types of combare available: one which has 8 wellsand one additional lane for DNAmarkers and one which has 8 wellsand 2 additional lanes for markers. Theoffset layout of the wells allows a longrun per well and improved separation.

RigRunner H-MIDI96 canaccommodate samples from a 96 wellplate - samples can be loaded directlyusing 8-channel pipettes. As with allRigRunner units, leak-proof casting issimplified using the supplied castingdams while their ultra-compact sizeminimises buffer usage and benchspace requirements.

MSMIDI96 STRETCH Systems arealso available for those requiring anextended run length per well of up to3.6cm.

RigRunner H-SELECT offers a widedegree of versatility. Three trayoptions are available - 15 x 7cm, 15 x10cm and 15 x 15cm - allowing thechoice of one, two or all three gellength options at the time of purchase.Further purchases of additionalaccessories are no longer required.Maximising comb and tray optionsallow up to 210 samples to be resolvedper gel. The 15cm total run lengthallows restriction fragment or otherclose MW sample bands to be easilyseparated and identified. Designed for rapid screening ofvery large numbers of Clonal orPCR samples, RigRunner H-SCREENhorizontal gel unit has a 672maximum sample capacity pergel. This allows loading andanalysis of exactly seven 96 wellformat micro titre plates.

The large gel run length of 32cm alsoallows resolution of samples over along distance for separation of complexsample bands such as in restrictionfragment analysis.

The unit is available with a full lengthtray or with other tray length options of16 or 24cm so that the user’s exactrequirements can be matched. Inaddition to options for single length geltrays, H-SCREEN is available with allthree gel tray lengths to provide

the maximum in flexibility, versatilityand value.

Buffer recirculation ports are includedas standard to allow enhancedresolution over extended runs whileloading guides improve well visibilityfor easy sample loading.


Two stand-alone horizontal multicasters are available for use with theRigRunner H-MINI / H-MIDI and RigRunner H-MIDI / H-MAXI gel trays. EachFlexicaster is entirely versatile and includes an adjustable barrier that may belocked into position to ensure efficient leak free casting. Flexicaster for H-STACK4

H-MICRAH-MICRA is a completely self containedsystem designed for quick checks ofsamples.Gel casting, running and analysisare all performed in the same ultra compactunit with buffer and gel volumes have beenkept to a minimum. The parallel electrodearrangement allows ultra efficient currenttransfer, enabling resolution to be completedwithin 30 minutes. THE LABORATORY

RigRunner H-STACK4 is a compactsystem capable of running over1200 samples simultaneously bystacking up to 4 horizontal gels.This achieves high sample throughputwhile maintaining the advantages of asmall and compact unit.

The units are supplied with 4 gel traysand 8 combs, as standard. Additionaltrays and combs can be purchased asrequired. Two dual comb formatsavailable and three tray lengths.

An optional Flexicaster, either suppliedseparately or as a package with the H-STACK4, allows up to four 8x6, 8x12and 8x18cm H-STACK4 gel trays to becast simultaneously outside the tank.

The single cell gel electrophoresis assay (alsoknown as the Comet assay) is a simple, rapidand sensitive technique for analysing andquantifying DNA damage in individualmammalian (and to some extent prokaryotic)cells. COMET assay tanks are specifically designedto minimise exposure to light and reducebackground DNA damage.

Constructed from Ebony acrylic to prevent UVdegradation, the slides sit on a cooling platformwhich can be connected to a water supply or chillerfor active temperature control and cooling.

F250 ChillerWith PID control ensuring temperature stabilitywithin ±0.5°C, the F250 is the perfect recirculatingchiller for active slide temperature control. Thischiller also benefits from a maximum flow rate of 15 litres per minute and 0.35 bar pressure, while asmall footprint and frontal vents allow multiple units

to be aligned side-by-side if required. A versatile workingtemperature range of +5°C to +40°C makes the chillersuitable for use in other applications such as flat-bedisoelectric focusing.

Julabo Chiller

These UV Sterilisation Cabinets providea convenient area for setting up PCRreactions in a nucleic acid freeenvironment thus limiting PCR reactioncontamination.

Acting effectively as a low cost alternative toa clean room, the powerful UV lights on eachcabinet denatures nucleic acids in 5 to 30minutes making them unsuitable foramplification. The cabinets incorporate safetyfeatures to prevent user-exposure to UV light.

The UV lights are timer controlled and thereare safety switches on the cabinet doors

which power off the UV lights when opened. Theunits’ white light provide excellent visibility whenworking within the cabinet.

Constructed from 10mm acrylic, the cabinets also actas efficient shields from beta radioactive emissions andcan therefore be safely used with isotopes such as 32P.

Two models are available, the original plus a newMini Cabinet for limited budget and bench space.

100 bp ladder and 1 kb ladders represent thetwo most popular markers used for DNAfragment size determination in gelelectrophoresis. Cellulose acetate electrophoresis is an important technique in clinical diagnostics.This new range of cellulose acetate products offers a complete system solution forResearch and Clinical Cellulose acetate electrophoresis procedures.

The Cellulose Acetate system is the ideal tank for both standard and wet cellulose acetateelectrophoresis. This unit is designed for both routine and research requirements and is built toour high quality standard. A simple to use cooling pack system ensuresenhanced resolution without costly and time

consuming additional equipment. No chiller, tap orobstructing connecting leads are required. The

cooling pack is simply pre-chilled in a freezer andplaced in the gel tank. Additionally, the use of

The RigRunner V-series range of Vertical Gel Units combines ease of use with highresolution separations. Three sizes, V-MINI 10 x 10cm, V-MINI WIDE 20 x 10cm and V-MAXI20 x 20cm, share a host of common features including guaranteed leak proof sealingrequired for trouble free, rapid and uncomplicated gel casting. The built in gel runningmodule eliminates time consuming transfer of glass plates during casting, a process whichcan cause gel damage and misalignment. Glass plates with permanently bonded spacersguarantee perfect spacer alignment. The glass plate sandwich is simply placed betweenpressure bars and the NEW sliding gates system (as shown below) click and lock in position.This ensures fast set up times while even pressure bars and ultra soft seals guarantee leakproof casting. Once the gel has polymerised, the gel running module is simply inserted intothe gel tank for electrophoresis.

The preferred unit for routine miniprotein electrophoresis, RigRunner V-MINI is constructed using thelatest injection mouldingmanufacturing techniques. This resultsin a high quality, low cost product withunsurpassed finish, durability and strength.The unit incorporates a sealing systemwhich is compatible with all major types of8 x 10cm and 10 x 10cm precast gel.

Gel casting and running is done using thesame internal module, no transfer of glassplates during gel casting is necessary. Themodule contains the option of slidingclamps or just one screw per clamping barside (both supplied), to allow very rapid setup of both hand cast and precast gels. RigRunner V-DGGE denaturinggradient gel electrophoresis unitcan run two 20 x 20cmpolyacrylamide gels for thedetection of single base changesand polymorphisms in cloned oramplified DNA fragments. It is idealfor the study of mutations and DNApolymorphisms critical in disease. Thissystem is primarily for paralleldenaturing gradient electrophoresis.

The full range of "DGGE" analysis canbe performed in this unit. DuringDenaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis,"DGGE", the buffer in the unit isheated using a 400-watt heater andthe temperature controlled by anexternal temperature controlconnected to an internal sensor. Thisallows the gel temperature to be setto the melting temperature (Tm) of theamplified DNA polymorphismmutation of interest.

These Gel Excision Tips offer a convenientand efficient one handed method ofremoving bands using a simple and rapidtwo-step process. The RigRunner range of Modular VerticalGel Systems allow multipleelectrophoresis techniques to beperformed in the same unit. Using thesame main tank and lid, three different insertsare interchangeable for slab gel, tube gel andelectroblotting techniques. This system has been designed toperform all flat bed IEFtechniques, including wick-basedelectrophoresis with horizontaland hand-cast IEF gels, andfocusing with IPG strips. The unitincludes a large cooling platformwhich offers increased strip capacityand active gel area. Uniform cooling ofthe platform is achieved using a largeceramic plate that may be connectedto any standard chiller via quick-fitconnecters for enhanced gel or stripcooling. An optional rehydration tray isalso available for overnight rehydrationof up to twelve IPG strips before use.

The RigRunner VS30 unit provides aconvenient solution for the second stage of2-D electrophoresis. The 26cm active gel widthprovides a large gel area to resolve large IEF strips.In combination with the IEF system above, thisoffers a complete package for 2-D electrophoresis.The unit utilises the RigRunner advanced designfeatures to provide convenient ease of use withhigh resolution separations.

Rapid set up cooling retains resolution in extendedseparations and also saves on buffer volume withoutaffecting run quality. Four gels can be resolved perrun. A wide range of accessories is available toallow easy transition between 2-D and standardvertical electrophoresis techniques. In particulardifferent types of 2-D comb allow a wide degree ofversatility in sample selection and gel set-up.

Designed primarily for wetelectroblotting of proteins, theseElectroblotters offer a combinationof increased capacity witheconomy saving features. Both units,Mini 10 x 10cm and Maxi 20 x 20cm,have increased capacity over standardsystems with up to five gel blot cassettesutilised at any one time. This is especiallyuseful in high throughput laboratories.

A uniform electric field is provided by a highintensity coiled electrode and ensures uniformtransfer across the blot surface. The cassette’s openarchitecture ensures the maximum blot area allowsdirect transfer of current. Its rigid constructionensures contact between the gel and membrane isretained throughout the blot and an even pressureis maintained. These units are compatible withmagnetic stirrers to aid heat dispersal and preventpH drifts in the buffer due to incomplete buffermixing. Each system includes a cooling pack tofurther enhance transfer efficiency by removingexcess heat. This also saves on buffer for addedeconomy.

These Semi Dry Blotters offer rapid transfer timesfor DNA, RNA and protein blotting - typically 15to 30 minutes. All units can be used for all types ofblotting: western, southern and northern via uncomplicatedbuffer and set up procedures and are compatible with gelthicknesses from 0.25 up to 10mm without the need foradditional equipment. Each unit is compatible with theirrespective RigRunner vertical gel system.

Semi Dry Blotting has the added benefit of economictransfers due to very low buffer volumes – typically only afew millilitres of buffer are required per transfer. These Semi-Dry Blotters utilise a screw down lid, which secures the blotsandwich and allows complete control of pressure ensuringeven transfer. The electrodes, comprising platinum coatedanode and stainless steel cathode, will exhibit practically nocorrosion and so provide many years of trouble free use.

Uniform heat dispersion across the blot sandwich ensuresstable transfer times and no heat induced sample loss ortransfer distortions. Being translucent, it allows viewing ofthe blot sandwich to ensure correct positioning andtransfer is occurring correctly. Electrode plates are fullyseparated to prevent arching or damage.

Dot Blot and Slot Blotmicrofiltration manifolds aredesigned for DNA and RNA filterblot hybridisations andimmunological (Ag/Ab) screeningapplications. Machined from highdensity acrylic, their precision lappedmating surfaces and leak proof gasketensures uniform filter contact, sopreventing lateral transfer of samples –smudging – by ensuring that a completevacuum is formed. Assembly of themanifolds is performed by aligning themating surfaces and tightening thestainless steel thumb screws. Apermanent filter template is providedwith each manifold to simplify the cuttingof filters to the exact size. A vacuum ofapproximately 600mm Hg (0.8 Bar) isrequired during sample application.

All Consort Maxi Series (EV200) Power Suppliesexcept EV243 and EV222, have four output terminalsto allow four simultaneous runs. Model EV243/EV222Mini power supplies have smaller footprints and three outputterminals. While the powerful microprocessor allows complexprogramming, the Manual mode permits the setting ofvoltage, current, power and time for a routine electrophoresisrun. Parameters can be changed temporarily withoutinterrupting the run.

Programming - up to 9 different programs, each with 9steps, can be stored in the non-volatile memory for future recall.

Timer - can be set to automatically terminate the runand sound an alarm when the allocated time or volt hourshas elapsed.

Automatic cross-over - each model has constantvoltage, constant current and constant power capabilitieswith automatic cross-over while showing which parameter iskept constant.

Automatic recovery after mains failure - afterrestoration of power, the instrument will automaticallycontinue the run for the remaining time.

Data Transfer - optional data acquisition/control softwarefor PC is available to visualise and examine the stored rundetails, store and program the methods, add notes to the run,identify the unit, copy or delete programs in the unit's memory.

Safety precautions - the AC line is automaticallydisconnected from the high voltage transformer when aground leakage path is detected protecting the user frompotential shock. RigRunner UV Transilluminators aremultitasking workstations offering an ultra-violet source for the analysis of fluorescentlystained DNA, RNA, and Protein electrophoresisgels. These also offer space to place tube racks,cutting tools or waste agarose gel, ideal whenthere is a need to cut gel bands.

Each single wavelength model includes a HighLow intensity switch. A new and high qualitystarter ensures that the UV tubes energiseimmediately and without flickering. This featureextends the life of the tubes. Two Dualwavelength models offer added flexibility andconvenience.

The white light box allows imaging of non-fluorescent stained media, to allow a widerrange of applications. Viewing Area: 210 x 297mm.

VacuuBrand™ MZ 2C + 2 AK is a high performancediaphragm pump suitable for use with the above geldryers. It is ultra quiet, low maintenance and oil-free.The separator at the inlet port, made of glass withprotective coating, retains particles and liquid droplets.The separator at the outlet collects condensate, avoidscondensate backflow towards the pump, and makesthe pump whisper quiet.

Chemically resistant Basic Pumps are also for usewith the gel dryers and offer a low cost alternative.

With a drying area of 21 x 31 cm, theMidi Gel Dryer can dry six 10 x 10cmgels or a single larger gel. The MaxiGel Dryer with a 35 x 45cm dryingarea can dry twelve 10 x 10cm minigels simultaneously. Both unit’smicroprocessor controls temperature andtime, each parameter being displayed onits own LED display. The gels are heatedfrom the base plate while the vacuumremoves the moisture from below to dry thegel homogeneously. These dryers featureoptimal sealing using a silicone rubbercover and supporting mask. When applyingthe vacuum, a groove that frames thedrying surface provides an optimal tightseal during the drying.

MICRODOC

microDOC is a simple, inexpensive and ultra compact geldocumentation system. It contains a CCD digital camera witha superb resolution of 14.7 mega pixels*. For addedconvenience, limited space and budget requirements, microDOCcan be used computer free. The image is viewed from a large 8"TFT colour liquid crystal display. A variety of images can becaptured from agarose and other fluorescent gels, colorimetricgels, auto radiography film and blotting membranes. The systemis computer-free and supplied with a 2MB storage card and58mm ethidium bromide filter as standard An optional SYBRfilter is also available. Files can be saved in a variety of formats

for later transfer to computer systems for storage and analysis.microDOC can be directly connected to thermal printer, PRNT - orto many other commercially available printers.

PrinterThe Mitsubishi P93 is a high speed, high resolution thermalprinter that is perfectly suited to printing images directly frommicroDOC. Connected by a BNC cable, the Mitsubishi P93 prints325dpi images, up to 133 x 99mm in size.
