Discrete Subjects: Literacy & English – We will continue to learn to read, write and spell words ending in the suffix of ‘ing’ and ‘ed’ in addition to common high frequency words. We will use of a range of adjectives to describe characters and settings. We will be given the opportunity to write a short creative story. Numeracy- We will continue to develop different strategies to help us with addition and subtraction. We will become more confident in skip counting forwards and backwards and from different starting points. As part of our topic maths we will learn to read and record quarter past and quarter to the hour. Spanish – We will learn to describe how we are feeling and name the months of the year. Health and Wellbeing – We will be learning about Road Safety and substance misuse. PE- We will develop our gross motor skills and problem solving through a range of activities. RE- We will learn about Saints who are relevant to Holy Cross and Scotland. We will learn more about Jesus and his life. We will learn about Advent and the meaning of Christmas. Expressive Arts – We will learn traditional Scottish dance routines and experiment with different materials to create artwork in the style of Paul Klee. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. In P3 we’ll have the opportunity to: *Participate in Mass at school and learn to pray. *Develop good relationships. *Learn about the importance of pupil voice. *Participate in weekly assemblies. *Participate in pupil groups *Learn about our rights as we work towards the Gold Level RRSA. *Build Resilience – Be Kind to Others *Building links with Trinity House Interdisciplinary Learning: We will be focussing on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project linked to Geography. Literacy – We will listen and respond to traditional Mexican folktales and write our own travel guide describing Mexico. Science – We will explore the physical characteristics of Mexico such as climate, landscape and weather. Technology – We will design and re- create the Kukulcan El Castillo, a famous Mexican landmark. Maths –We will develop our understanding of measure through constructing our models. Expressive Arts – We will create artwork inspired my Mexican culture. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we’ll also get the chance to learn through different experiences. We will participate in: Gold Medal Award and Values certificate House Points Owl Tokens for following the playground charter Outdoor learning including the Daily Mile Nativity and Christmas Service Outright Campaign (Global citizenship) We will share achievements from after school clubs Sharing our learning with the rest of the school ..
