MathsLog onto the White Rose Maths link for this week’s activities [Summer Term Week 2 - April 27th] This week’s focus is measuring. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/This gives you a daily lesson including a teaching video and worksheets. When it says “pause here” on the daily video, you will be ready to do the questions on the downloadable sheets. If you do not have access to a printer, you could use real objects such as coins, toys, pasta shapes, pebbles to practise the questions. You could also draw them onto paper.

In addition to the White Rose here are a few other activities to try this week: Draw a picture of your family in height order. Gather a set of objects from home and put them into order of height or length. Use your hundred square to jump and count in different steps such as 2s, 3s, 5s or 10s.

ScienceHow do plants grow?Watch either (or both if you want to) of the clips and talk about them together. What did you see? What happened to the seed? Which came first the roots or the stem? How did the roots spread out and grow? Did you notice the leaves growing in pairs?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w77zPAtVTuI This clip shows the germination and growth of a bean over 25 days using time lapse photography.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDBX2gCXxYw another clip showing a seed germinating and growing using time lapse photography.

Now have a go at drawing the different stages of the plant growing in order. You could draw a cartoon, a set of boxes with arrows showing the sequence. You could number the boxes, or you could even draw a story map. Try to add a caption underneath each picture to explain the stages of growth. At the end of the home learning are two ideas. You do not need to print these.

Creative Curriculum IdeasUse a map/atlas/google maps to find where people in your family live/come from.

Make some homemade instruments using things around the house. Use your instruments to make some noise during NHS clap time.

As it is National Pet Month, take some time to find out about 2 people who care a lot for animals by researching Steve Irwin and his daughter Bindi Irwin.

Friday is May 1st. Find out about the Traditional May Day – What is the history behind this day and what traditional events might take place in the UK to celebrate it

Health & WellbeingContact one of your class mates – draw a picture, make them a card, ring them, or wave to them when you go past their house on your daily exercise.
