May 1, 2018Dear Church Family,

Oh, Pastor!!

Greetings! One day I was sitting in my office and working at my desk when I got a ding on my phone. I checked the message and it said, “Hate to bother you, but, I have a question.” I waited and waited but the question didn’t come, so I replied, “I have no response to your question.” And I waited and waited. I sent a second text message, “I never received your question.” And again I waited and waited for a response. At this point I was more than curious as to what the question could be that was so important to “not want to bother me, but still have a question.”

I don’t know all the answers of the Bible by heart, I continue to study and learn more and more about God’s Word every day and every week. There are times that I am preparing a message and the phrase of a verse hits me and I am amazed at the details of God’s Word that I have missed as I have studies God Word. Yet, I have discovered, there are those individuals that have questions but never really come out and ask the questions. So in the upcoming months I am going to pose a question to you.

What Questions Do You Have about Spiritual Things? Whether it is the Bible, Faith, Salvation, God’s Word, or How Does God’s Word (Creation) and Science mesh? Questions like, Pastor Ed, I don’t understand this verse, so what does it mean.

If I have learned one thing over the years of ministry, the questions we have are many, but often we are afraid of asking them. So here is the plan. You may text your questions to my cell phone at 419-204-9768, you may email your questions to [email protected], you may write them down on scrap paper and hand them to me or drop off in the Church Office. You can even call me up and pose the question to me over the phone. You can even talk to me face to face and ask your question.

I will take these questions and break them down to answer them. I will not mention who the question came from and you can even submit them to the elders if you don’t want me to know and they will pass them to me. I know that the questions exists, questions of validity of the Bible, reconciling passages and how we come to an understanding of an answer. I am giving you an opportunity to Ask the Pastor.

Let me encourage you to ask the questions. As I taught Junior High Bible at Mansfield Christian School, the side questions often had the greatest impact in forming the kid spiritually. As we engage our faith, ask the tough questions and seek God in the answers, amazing things occur. I have wrestled with this idea over the past few weeks – I even thought of entitling the sermon series – Stump the Pastor but then I was afraid that you wood. Okay that was a bad joke for those that caught it. I will stick with the revealing of God’s truth and go out on a limb to invite you to ask your questions. No question is too small, no question is unimportant, no question is too silly. Please don’t be like the person whom sent the message, saying they have a question but failed to ask it. I remember reading a devotional shortly after Jodi and I were married, it was getting late and I dialed the Pastor of the Church and posed the question. They were more than glad I called to ask the question, and I was able to sleep on the answer.

Remember – Christ said to “Ask, and it shall be given to you.”Sincerely,Pastor Ed Rinehart
