Systems Engineering Award Criteria and Instructions CRITERIA This category is open to individuals who contribute to the overall success of the operation of our railways. The individual must have demonstrated their ability by delivering improvements for our railway industry across one or more of the following disciplines noting the list is for guidance only and is not exhaustive: Signalling on-board Signalling wayside Centralised train control and automation Individual train operation and automation Business management, passenger and freight information Fixed wayside or above rail asset protection and monitoring Station and tunnel protection Wagon loading and unloading Data and voice communications Private and public fixed and wireless networks Cyber security In progressing the development, integration and application of new and innovative technologies to rail infrastructure and operations, the individual has demonstrated some or all of the following: Leadership and innovation capability in applying the technologies to railways Applied systems engineering principles in the development and application of the technologies to railways through the definition of system concepts, functionality, requirements, human factors and traceability etc. Conducted or overseen the necessary verification and independent validation of the system in terms of its functional operation, safety, and reliability

CRITERIA

This category is open to individuals who contribute to the overall success of the operation of our railways. The individual must have demonstrated their ability by delivering improvements for our railway industry across one or more of the following disciplines noting the list is for guidance only and is not exhaustive:

Signalling on-board

Signalling wayside

Centralised train control and automation

Individual train operation and automation

Business management, passenger and freight information

Fixed wayside or above rail asset protection and monitoring

Station and tunnel protection

Wagon loading and unloading

Data and voice communications

Private and public fixed and wireless networks

Cyber security

In progressing the development, integration and application of new and innovative technologies to rail infrastructure and operations, the individual has demonstrated some or all of the following:

Leadership and innovation capability in applying the technologies to railways

Applied systems engineering principles in the development and application of the technologies to railways through the definition of system concepts, functionality, requirements, human factors and traceability etc.

Conducted or overseen the necessary verification and independent validation of the system in terms of its functional operation, safety, and reliability

Acted in a senior position responsible for the implementation of a particular project that captures the essence of the above criteria

IMPORTANT CONDITIONS OF NOMINATION

Each of the criteria must be addressed in the nomination

That in each of the criteria in items 5 to 10 on the nomination form, that nominees should focus on one, and not more than two, significant projects or activities (for each criteria) that the nominee has worked on

Nominees must provide evidence of their direct involvement in their chosen examples, any such evidence provided will be kept confidential to the judges

The judges may require to interview the nominees

Nominees must include adequate supporting material to substantiate their examples (note that supporting material in the form of a CV is unlikely to satisfy the criteria)

Self-nominations must provide:o a second/third party endorsemento referee contact details

SUBMITTING YOUR NOMINATION

To submit your nomination, respond to the questions on the Systems Engineering Award Nomination Form.

Nominations must be saved with the category title and nominating company/individual.

Supporting material must also be saved clearly with the attachment number, category title and nominating company/individual.

Email completed nomination (including supporting material) to [email protected].

If sending multiple nominations, please send each in a separate email.
