A GUIDE TO COMMUNIONAll Christians visiting our congregation are welcome to share with us in communion at the end of our morning worship today. Speak to the minister to discuss membership. We celebrate the communion because Jesus gave his followers a memorial meal to share reminding us of his death on the cross. The bread and wine act as signposts pointing to Jesus’ body and blood given for us. Those not taking part in communion are asked to pass the bread and wine along the row to those seated nearby. The Bible tells us to examine our life before we share in communion (1 Cor. 11:28). If you trust in Jesus then this meal is for you and will strengthen your faith. If you are not yet a Christian you first need to ask Him to become your Saviour. Those who turn to Jesus find in Him peace with God and a welcome at His table.

Christ is risen?

Psalm 61 - Jubilate Version

O God, hear me calling and answer, I pray!No distance can silence the words that I say,no mountain, no ocean can hinder my prayerwhen deep is my sorrow and dark my despair.

When trouble comes near me and enemies taunt,Lord, you are the fortress no evil can daunt;and safe on the rock that is higher than Iyour strength is my hope as you answer my cry.

For Lord you have heard all the vows I have mademy thoughts and intentions when homage I paid;with all who have lived by the fear of your name,Lord, grant all my prayers as your praise I proclaim!

I long for the day when your dwelling is mine, your wings for a shelter, your presence a shrine;I praise you on earth for your mercy and grace:what blessings I'll sing as I look on your face! From Psalm 61, Paul Wigmore (born 1925)© Paul Wigmore/Jubilate Hymns

O for a Thousand TonguesO for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace!

Jesus! the name that calms our fears and bids our sorrows cease;sweet music in the sinner’s ears, our life and health and peace.

He breaks the power of cancelled sin, he sets the prisoner free;his blood can make the foulest clean, his blood availed for me.

He speaks; and, listening to his voice, new life the dead receive, the mournful broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe.

Hear him, you deaf! His praise, you dumb,

your loosened tongues employ;you blind, now see your Saviour come, and leap, you lame, for joy!

My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaimand spread through all the earth

abroad the honours of your name.Charles Wesley (1707-88), revised (CM)

Communion Hymn (Behold the Lamb) Behold the Lamb who bears our sins

away,Slain for us - and we rememberThe promise made that all who come

in faithFind forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this bread of life,And we drink of His sacrificeAs a sign of our bonds of peaceAround the table of the King.  The body of our Saviour Jesus Christ,Torn for you - eat and rememberThe wounds that heal, the death that

brings us lifePaid the price to make us one.So we share in this bread of life,And we drink of His sacrificeAs a sign of our bonds of loveAround the table of the King.

The blood that cleanses every stain of sin,

Shed for you - drink and rememberHe drained death's cup that all may

enter inTo receive the life of God.So we share in this bread of life,And we drink of His sacrificeAs a sign of our bonds of graceAround the table of the King. And so with thankfulness and faith

we riseTo respond, - and to rememberOur call to follow in the steps of

ChristAs His body here on earth. As we share in His sufferingWe proclaim Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heavenAround the table of the King.

Words & music by Keith & Kristyn Getty & Stuart Townend.

How deep the Father’s love for us How deep the Father’s love for usHow vast beyond all measure,That He should give His only SonTo make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss –The Father turns His face away,As wounds which mar the Chosen

OneBring many sons to glory.

Behold the man upon a cross,My sin upon His shoulders;Ashamed, I hear my mocking voiceCall out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him thereUntil it was accomplished; His dying breath has brought me life

–I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,No gifts, no power, no wisdom; But I will boast in Jesus Christ,His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward?I cannot give an answer; But this I know with all my heart –His wounds have paid my ransom.

CALL TO WORSHIP (from 1 Timothy 1:15-17)

MINISTER: Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance:

ALL: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.MINISTER: We were shown mercy so that in us, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for

those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.ALL: Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only

God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen!

MORNING SONGS - Version of Psalm 22 by Brian FoleyWhy, God, have you forsaken me—more distant now, the more I cry?Must I, alone, unanswered, golike one unloved, alone to die?

Our fathers, when they prayed to you

in every need, in every prayer, were heard by you and saved by

you,and never doubted that you care!

But now my people turn on me,with hate, not pity, in their eyes;and all who see me, see in me

no man, a worm that they despise!

My hands and feet they bind to wound;

my bones they number, and each breath,

until with burning thirst I tastethe bitter agony of death!

My God, I trust you, trust you still—be near, be near to hear my prayer!I know that all who hope in youare safe in death from death’s

despair.Words Brian Foley © Praise Trust 2000, LM

Man of Sorrows!Man of sorrows! What a namefor the Son of God, who cameruined sinners to reclaim:Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

Mocked by insults harsh and crude,in my place condemned he stood;sealed my pardon with his blood:Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

Guilty, vile and helpless, we;spotless Lamb of God was he:full atonement-can it be?

Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

Lifted up was he to die,‘It is finished!’ was his cry;now in heaven, exalted high:Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

When he comes, our glorious King, all his ransomed home to bring;then anew this song we’ll sing:Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

O to see the dawnO, to see the dawn of the darkest day Christ on the road to calvary Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten

then Nailed to a cross of wood Chorus: This the pow’r of the cross: Christ became sin for us. Took the blame, bore the wrath; We stand forgiven at the cross

O, to see the pain written on Your face Bearing the awesome weight of sin.Ev’ry bitter thought, ev’ry evil deed Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

Chorus:

Now the daylight flees, now the ground beneath

Quakes as its maker bows his head Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to

life Finished! the victory cry. Chorus:

Oh to see my name written in the wounds,

For through Your suff’ring I am free. Death is crushed to death, life is mine to

live Won through Your selfless love

Final chorus: This the pow’r of the cross: Son of God slain for us. What a love, what a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross.

EVENING SONG

Not what these hands (SM)

Not what these hands have donecan save this guilty soul, and nothing that this flesh has bornecan make my spirit whole.

Not what I feel or docan give me peace with God;not all my prayers or sighs or tearscan bear my awful load.

Your work alone, O Christ, can ease this weight of sin;your blood alone, O Lamb of God,can give me peace within.

Your love to me, O God,not mine, O Lord, to you,can rid me of this deep unrestand all my heart renew.

Your grace alone, O God,speaks pardoning love to me;your power alone, O Son of God,can set my spirit free.

I bless the Christ of God,I rest on love divine, and with unfaltering lip and heartI call this Saviour mine.

One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice!

Come, those whose joy is morning sun,

And those weeping through the night;

Safe in the Shadow (version of Psalm 91- Timothy Dudley-Smith)Safe in the shadow of the Lord,Beneath His hand and power,I trust in Him, I trust in Him,My fortress and my tower. My hope is set on God alone,Though Satan spreads his snare,I trust in Him, I trust in Him,

To keep me in His care. From fears and phantoms of the night,From foes about my way,I trust in Him, I trust in Him,By darkness as by day.

And can it beAnd can it be that I should gainan interest in the Saviour’s blood?Died he for me, who caused his pain? For me, who him to death pursued?Amazing love! How can it bethat you, my God, should die for me?Amazing love! How can it bethat you, my God, should die for me?

What mystery here! The Immortal dies!

Who can explore his strange design? In vain the highest angel triesto sound the depths of love divine! What mercy this! Let earth adore;let angel minds enquire no more. What mercy this! Let earth adore;let angel minds enquire no more.

He left his Father’s throne above-so free, so infinite his grace-humbled

himself in all his loveand bled for Adam’s helpless race. What mercy this, immense and free,

for, O my God, it found out me!What mercy this, immense and free, for, O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit layfast bound in sin and nature’s night:then shone your glorious gospel ray;I woke! The dungeon flamed with

light! My chains fell off; my heart was new,I rose, went forth and followed you!My chains fell off; my heart was new,I rose, went forth and followed you!

No condemnation now I dread!Jesus, and all in him, is mine!Alive in him, my living head, and clothed in righteousness divine, bold I approach the eternal throneand claim the crown, through Christ

my own;bold I approach the eternal throneand claim the crown, through Christ

WE HAVE A GOSPEL TO PROCLAIM

WE HAVE A GOSPEL TO PROCLAIM,Good news for all throughout the

earth; The gospel of a Saviour's name:We sing His glory, tell His worth.

Tell of His birth at Bethlehem,Not in a royal house or hallBut in a stable dark and dim:The Word made flesh, a light for all.

Tell of His death at Calvary,Hated by those He came to save;In lonely suffering on the cross

For all He loved His life He gave. Tell of that glorious Easter morn:Empty the tomb, for He was free.He broke the power of death and hellThat we might share His victory. Tell of His reign at God's right hand,By all creation glorified; He sends His Spirit on His ChurchTo live for Him, the Lamb who died. Now we rejoice to name Him King:Jesus is Lord of all the earth. This gospel message we proclaim:We sing His glory, tell His worth.

My hope is built

My hope is built on nothing lessthan Jesus’ blood and righteousness;no merit of my own I claim, but wholly trust in Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils his lovely face,I rest on his unchanging grace;in every high and stormy gale,my anchor holds and will not fail.

His oath, his covenant and his bloodsupport me in the rising flood;when all around my soul gives way,

he then is all my hope and stay.

I trust his righteous character, his counsel, promises and power;his name and honour are at staketo save me from the burning lake.

When the last trumpet’s voice shall sound,O may I then in him be found, clothed in his righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne!

‘THE GRACE’ - TO CONCLUDE MORNING SERVICE:

We all say together: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. (2 Cor. 13:14).

Jesus, my strength, my hope,on you I cast my care, with humble confidence look upand know you hear my prayer. On you alone I waittill I can all things do;on you, almighty to create, almighty to renew.

Give me a godly fear,a quick-discerning eye, that looks to you when sin is nearand sees the tempter fly;a spirit well-preparedand armed with zealous care, for ever standing on its guardand keeping watch in prayer.

Give me a true regard,

a single, steady aim, unmoved by threatening or

reward, for you and your great name;a jealous, just concernfor your immortal praise;a pure desire that all may learnand glorify your grace.

I rest upon your word;the promise is for me;my strength and my salvation,

Lord, from you alone shall be:but let me still abide, nor from my hope remove, till you my steadfast spirit guideinto your perfect love.

When All your mercies

When all your mercies, O my God,my rising soul surveys, enraptured by the view, I’m lostin wonder, love and

praise.

Unnumbered blessings on my soul

your tender care bestowedbefore my infant heart conceivedfrom whom those blessings

flowed.

Ten thousand thousand precious gifts

my daily thanks employ;nor is the least a cheerful heartthat tastes those gifts with joy.

In health and sickness, joy and pain,

your goodness I’ll pursue;and after death, in distant worlds, the glorious theme renew.

Throughout eternity, O Lord,a joyful song I’ll raise;but O! eternity’s too shortto utter all your praise!

Evening Songs

Across the lands

You're the Word of God the FatherFrom before the world began.Ev'ry star and ev'ry planetHas been fashioned by Your hand. All creation holds togetherBy the power of Your voice.Let the skies declare Your glory;Let the land and seas rejoice!

CHORUS   You're the Author of creation;   You're the Lord of ev'ry man;   And Your cry of love rings out across the lands.

Yet You left the gaze of angels,Came to seek and save the lost,

And exchanged the joy of heavenFor the anguish of a cross. With a prayer You fed the hungry; With a word You calmed the sea;Yet how silently You sufferedThat the guilty may go free!

With a shout You rose victorious,Wresting vict'ry from the grave,And ascended into heaven,Leading captives in Your way.Now You stand before the Father,Interceding for Your own; From each tribe and tongue and nation,You are leading sinners home!

There in the ground His body lay,Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day,

O COME TO ME, THE MASTER SAID

O come to me, the Master said,my Father knows your need;and I shall be, the Master said, your bread of life indeed.By faith in him we live and growand share the broken bread, and all his love and goodness know, for so the Master said. Abide in me, the Master said, the true and living vine;my life shall be, the Master said, poured out for you as wine.

His body to the cross he gave, his blood he freely shed, who came in love to seek and save, for so the Master said. Believe in me, the Master said, for I have called you friends, and yours shall be, the Master said, the life that never ends. And so, with sin and sorrow past, when death itself is dead, the Lord shall raise us up at last, for so the Master said.
