Job Description

Job title: Head of Marketing

Reporting to: Executive Director (and in consultation with the ArtisticDirector)

Working with: Director of Development & Communications, Head ofFinance and the Senior Management Team

Responsible for: An in-house 2 person marketing team – structure TBC, BoxOffice Manager and external press agencies and publicistsas required.

Contract type: Permanent full-time (subject to a probationary period of 6months)

Salary: £38-42k pa (dependent on experience)

Hours of work: Usually 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm.Due to this being a senior role there will be occasions wherework outside these hours is required – there is no provisionfor paid overtime however we operate an informal TOILsystem

As a new writing producing house it is regularly cited as an institution that is innovative with its work on stage, its engagement with young people and the kind of audiences it attracts.

TRSE recently opened Gerry’s, a new café/bar operation and 80 seat black box theatre and is working with the London Borough of Newham to build The Red Crate – a new eco-venue which will be a sister building to the National Theatre’s temporary theatre.

Main Purpose of the Post

To maximise audiences and the diversity of audiences. To take the lead in developing the marketing, digital and brand strategies for

the organisation. To create and implement marketing, audience development and

communication campaigns for the work of the Theatre Royal Stratford East. To set and reach agreed sales targets. To maximise awareness of all aspects of the company’s activities.

Principal duties and responsibilities

1. To assess the structure of the marketing department and function and restructure where appropriate.

2. To use historical data and industry knowledge to set sales targets and use marketing tools to achieve them.

3. To develop a deeper understanding of who our audiences are and what motivates them to interact with us.

4. To create strategies to build long term relationships with our audiences.

5. To create marketing campaigns for each production and to lead the marketing department in the implementation of these campaigns.

6. To plan and manage campaign related activity on multiple digital channels and set up systems for evaluation of activity.

7. To oversee the production and distribution of all print and programmes for the company’s work, including briefing designers and liaising with printers and distributors.

8. To research, source and engage external agencies where required and to manage and review their work.

9. With publicists, to develop press and advertising strategies and campaigns in support of the company’s activities.

10.To ensure that all marketing activity is achieved within the budgets agreed.

11.Ensuring the development of policies that maximise the effectiveness of initiatives designed to increase access and involvement by particular target groups.

12.Ensuring that the company makes appropriate use of the opportunities created by new technology and the internet for marketing and sales. Ensuring that the company’s website is used effectively and regularly updated.

13.To oversee the operation of the Box Office. Ensuring the maximisation of the use of the CRM system Spektrix for audience development and research.

14.Ensuring the company’s policies in regard to social inclusion are reflected in the marketing of the company’s activities.

15.Undertaking marketing initiatives that increase awareness of the bar and catering facilities of the theatre and maximise income.

16.With the Front of House Manager, to develop and implement front of house marketing opportunities (e.g. merchandising, front of house displays, etc.)

17.To play an active role as part of the senior management team
