. A word from your Worship and Music Board
A special thank you goes out to Cheryl Edwards and Lucy Young, who have been assisting with piano coverage while Marietta has been out. An additional note of thanks goes out to our dedicated Acoustic Band who has assist with service multiple times this summer. They have also been learning a new acoustic worship setting called “The Chicago Folk Service” that will be premiering in October.
Think about joining one of our choir groups!
Cheryl is starting the Vocal Choir back up on August 26th. New voices are always welcome. Rehearsals are at 6:30p.m. Wednesday evenings.
The Bell Choir will start on Sept 6th at 8:30a.m. in the library. We are looking for 1-3 new members to complete our full choir. No experience needed – we train! Contact Rebekka for more information.
The Acoustic Band would love a couple of additional vocal voices and any new instruments that would like to join. Rehearsals are Wednesday’s at 5:30p.m. (normally we rehearse twice a month.)
September 6 Rev. Louella Lyons will be joining us for service.
September 13 Is an Acoustic Sunday. Rev. Louella Lyons will be joining us for service.
September 20 Is our fall Healing Service. Rev. Tim Koenig will be joining us.
September 27 Is our Prayer Shawl Mission Focus and Display Dedication. Rev. Tim Koenig will be joining us.
Looking into the future, we are planning a “Blessing of the Animals” for Oct 18. Instead of having everyone bring their beloved pets to church, we would rather do a photo slide show presentation. We are asking that everyone who has pets, please get photos of all your animals (individual or group images) to Rebekka Handschke before Oct 4th. You can bring in originals, text photos to 360-672-1651, or email them to [email protected].
.
THANK YOU to all of your cards, calls, visits, and PRAYERS. Through the uncertainty and fears, diagnosis, hospitalization and treatments, and finally a return home but still the question of whether we could hope for the return of life as we knew it; our faith and the encouragement and comfort of our support system (our church family at St. Matthew being at important part) kept us going and fighting. GOD IS GOOD and in his good time, I am experiencing improvement and healing each day. Vern & Dorothy Thompson

“Adsmore Black Patch Candlelight Event”&
Wine Tasting at Clarence and Carolyn Traum’s HouseSaturday, September 19th
We have a delightful event planned for September, beginning with an afternoon wine tasting from 4-6 p.m. at the Traum’s house in Princeton. Following this we will head to the Adsmore House for our tour beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the tour will run anywhere from $5.00 - $7.00 . The Adsmore House & Gardens in Princeton, Kentucky is located just one block north of historic downtown Princeton, KY. The house was first built in 1854 by a merchant named John Higgins, it is believed the museum’s name was derived from the fact that numerous additions and remodeling projects have taken place on the property over the past one-hundred and fifty years. The particular tour the evening of Sept. 19th will educate us on the story of the tobacco farmer’s war that occurred in Princeton in 1906. As always with our wine tastings we will have directions available,
bring your favorite beverage and an appetizer to share. Thank you Carolyn and Clarence for opening up your home to everyone.

YOUTH NEWSA huge THANK YOU!! to the following youth for assisting us during the worship service on August 2nd. They did an awesome job! Michael and Joseph Faughn were charming as ever as they greeted everyone. Joseph Faughn and Memphis Ford were our very reverent ushers. Bailey Rose Wood did an excellent job as our lay reader. Justis and Memphis Ford and Owen and Ethan (Gary and Sadie Arness' grandchildren) served as song leaders. (Thank you Dr. Lucy for practicing and playing the piano for us!) Tanner and Jackson Castleberry, were away visiting relatives, John Robert wasn’t able to make that Sunday however, we really appreciate you boys sharing with us your friends that you bring to church and your boyhood antics. A thank-you goes to Lily Ratzlaff for charming us with her presence on most Sundays and for sharing an occasional song with us.
Our youth are a small, but a mighty group who show great promise as future leaders in our church!
We are looking at reviving our Sunday School class and checking into a new Sunday School curriculum. We are needing volunteers to help us in this important mission, whether it's searching for lessons, sharing a lesson, or sharing ways to involve the children in our worship service. Please contact Linda Ward or Jean Fuller with your ideas or if you can help in any way.

SEPTEMBER MISSION FOCUS is WORLD HUNGER: Our Sundays in September will focus on responding to the compelling facts of hunger in our world. According to the Rev. Daniel Rift, Director, ELCA WorldHunger and Disaster Appeal, “The world produces enough food for all, but it is not available to all.” We all know that God richly provides for our daily bread. Yet, because of the injustices of war and natural disasters, many people still go hungry and or wanting. For much of the world, this has been another year filled with challenges. Even here in the United States, one in six aren’t sure where their next meal is coming. And globally, did you know that every few seconds…with every breath we take…someone in the world dies from poverty-related causes? The Missions and Ministry Board humbly requests that you pray about how God wants you to respond in your giving during the church’s World Hunger appeal this year.
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:35-36
HEARTFELT THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE AUGUST COMMUNITY COUNTRY BREAKFAST BENEFITTING MARCELLA’S KITCHEN! On August 8th, with the help of a Thrivent Action Team Grant which purchased all the needed food for the Country Breakfast with $250, the Holy Spirit did His marvelous work through 15 volunteers who cooked and served a delicious breakfast and 72 people who reflected the love of God in caring for others by coming to eat and support Marcella’s Kitchen. The breakfast raised $568 and another $85 on Sunday through donations for a total of $653.00 for the event. On August 11, the Church Council approved a recommendation from the Mission & Ministry Board to match the $653 Breakfast profits with $347 from previous Breakfast profits… TO MAKE A TOTAL DONATION OF $1,000.00 TO MARCELLA’S KITCHEN! God is good all the time! All the time God is good!
