Third Sunday in Ordinary Time– Family Mass

January 24, 2021

Entrance/Gathering Song: Come, Now it the Time to Worship

Greeting

P. In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen.

P. The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit.

Liturgy of the Word

 First Reading: Jonah 3: 1 - 5

The Lord spoke to Jonah and said,

“Jonah, go to that great city of Nineveh and speak to them for me.”

Jonah obeyed the Lord and went to Nineveh.

The city was so large that it took three days just to walk through it.

After walking for a day, Jonah told the people,

“Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed.”

They believed God’s message

and they set a time when they would all go without eating.

Then everyone in the city, no matter who they were,

also dressed in sackcloth.

When God saw that the people had stopped doing evil things,

he had pity on them and did not destroy them, as he had said.

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm: Teach me your Way, O Lord.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:29 - 31 A

I tell you, brothers and sisters, the time is running out.

From now on, let those having wives act as not having them,

those weeping as not weeping,

those rejoicing as not rejoicing,

those buying as not owning,

those using the world as not using it fully.

For the world in its present form is passing away.

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia

Gospel Dialogue:

P. The Lord be with you. R. And with your spirit.

 P. A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

R. Glory to you, O Lord.

Gospel: Mark 1: 14 - 20

After John was arrested,

Jesus went to Galilee and told the good news that comes from God.

He said, “The time has come!

God’s kingdom will soon be here.

Turn back to God and believe the good news!”

As Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee,

he saw Simon and his brother Andrew.

They were fishermen and were casting their nets into the lake.

Jesus said to them, “Come with me!

I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish.”

Right then the two brothers dropped their nets and went with him.

Jesus walked on and soon saw James and John, the sons of Zebedee.

They were in a boat, mending their nets.

At once Jesus asked them to come with him.

They left their father in the boat with the hired workers

and went with him.

The Gospel of the Lord.

R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Homily

 Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God,

the Father Almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;

He descended into hell;

on the third day He rose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Holy Catholic Church,

the communion of Saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and life everlasting

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul.
