issue 2 It's the start of the new season and we all hope that it will be as good as the last. Some of our teams did well, some not so well but the main thing is that we enjoy it. Winning is good but taking part, either by playing or getting involved with the club in other ways, keeps it alive. Bowling is our bread and butter but what is just as important is the social aspects of our club, the whist, the fun days, the meals out and the social banter that we have each time we meet. So get involved and let's not lose any of it. Opening Dinner I think we can call it a success! Our first club gathering at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club was an enjoyable start to our season and if you missed it, you missed a good ‘do’. Great food and plenty of it, a good quiz thanks to Kathy and Bingo, Dave Holland style. The word on the street is that we are happy with the new venue and Dave Holland will be happy to receive comments on whether we have another ‘carvery’ when we go there again in October or if you would like a ‘served’ two or three course meal. Do members want to go out for social events like this more often? The caterers ‘Just a Bite’ do Curry Nights, Mexican Nights, Hot Pot Suppers, in fact, anything we want. Think about it and let Dave know. The last Sunday of each month during the season will be a fun day when we can let our hair down, well those who have some, and play bowls totally for fun. £2 gets you entry and a buffet. Where else can you get that. Dates and details are on the notice board Vardre Bowling Club VBC News

Future ChangesYou may be pleased to know that we recently received another grant from Conwy Town Council, this time, for £500.The Committee met at the end of February and agreed that the money should be put towards the redevelopment of the ‘away side’ patio area. This will improve safety and it will look nice and compliment the patio area outside the clubhouse. The work has been arranged but we are not sure when it will be done but we will keep you informed.

The first competition is ‘Opening Fours’ which we originally organised for the 26th March but someone who was awake, thanks Derrick, realised that day was ‘Mothers Day’ so we have rearranged it for the week after, the 2nd April. This is a doubles competition and it starts at 1.30pm prompt so turn up no later than 1.15pm

Last year we had some of our competitions on a week day but it has been agreed that, in order to allow everybody to take part in any competition, they will be held on a Sunday. An exception will be the ‘Scramble’ which is in Thursday 11th May at 2pm and will be followed by dinner at the Conwy Golf Club, Is this a good idea? Let us know.

Friendlies are played on Thursdays. Over the years some teams have dropped out so not every Thursday is a match day but we have been able to play some teams more than twice. Look on the ‘friendlies’ notice board section and come and play doubles in a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure to win.
