The Statue of liberty is a well-known icon for the United States of America. This statue is located on Liberty Island in the New York Harbor. The statue holds a torch & a Tabula Ansata (tablet evoking law), which has the date the declaration of independence was signed, and a broken chain at her feet.

The statue was a gift from the people of France. Designer Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi got the main idea from Édouard René de Laboulaye who was a French law professor and politician. This idea was brought up to celebrate the ending of slavery after the American civil war. Laboulaye proposed the France finance the statue while America provided a location and build the pedestal. He wanted it to be a joint project for the American and French people. The symbolism for the statue was to show freedom in the United States and to welcome immigrants to the country.

The design of the Statue of Liberty helps enhance our experience as people in different ways. The statue is an active figure. Tourists can walk throughout the statue and explore the design from different perspectives. It was designed specifically for people to walk through and be able to feel the grandness of the statue and see what it represents. The statue as whole represents Libertas, the Greek Goddess of liberty. As Americans we use this statue as a symbol for our freedom from many different wars in our history. Citizens are able to walk through and feel the freedom it puts off.

In todays society most people refer to social media for information. Advertisements are becoming huge because of the response to social media. I think advertisements are not needed for the Statue of Liberty. Since the statue has been around for some time now and is a classic icon for the United States it doesn’t need advertisements for people to know what it is. But I think the strong icon for freedom aspect of the statue speaks more words then an advertisement.

built to show the strength of the country and the business of the French and American people. Social, this statue is a part of social practices. Most people know the statue of liberty and why its there, it can become a topic of conversation about the statue itself and even about the design process of thinking about the idea to the actual production of the statue. It has also become a part of our culture. Our culture is to be proud of our freedom and what the statue represents.
