Introduction Welcome to Camp Jungai! Our mission is to foster an awareness of self, others and the natural world through Indigenous culture, outdoor and environmental education. Camp Jungai was established as an Aboriginal cultural camp in 1972, with the aim of bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities together. The land here has great cultural and historical significance to the Aboriginal people, and as more people visit Jungai, it becomes significant to others as well. The word ‘Jungai’ means ‘meeting place’ in the Taungurung language, which is appropriate, as Jungai was established on the traditional land of the Taungurung Aboriginal Clan. We welcome you to Jungai on behalf of the Taungurung people, and ask you to respect and care for the facility and its outlying areas. We believe it is important for our guests to understand the unique history of Jungai and its cultural significance in an effort to develop a greater understanding and empathy surrounding Indigenous culture. We hope you enjoy your time at Jungai, and we look forward to your upcoming visit with us. Sincerely,

Introduction

Welcome to Camp Jungai!

Our mission is to foster an awareness of self, others and the natural world through

Indigenous culture, outdoor and environmental education. Camp Jungai was established as

an Aboriginal cultural camp in 1972, with the aim of bringing Indigenous and non-

Indigenous communities together. The land here has great cultural and historical

significance to the Aboriginal people, and as more people visit Jungai, it becomes significant

to others as well. The word ‘Jungai’ means ‘meeting place’ in the Taungurung language,

which is appropriate, as Jungai was established on the traditional land of the Taungurung

Aboriginal Clan. We welcome you to Jungai on behalf of the Taungurung people, and ask

you to respect and care for the facility and its outlying areas. We believe it is important for

our guests to understand the unique history of Jungai and its cultural significance in an

effort to develop a greater understanding and empathy surrounding Indigenous culture. We

hope you enjoy your time at Jungai, and we look forward to your upcoming visit with us.

Sincerely,

Nicole Martin
