Active Girls for Health

Around the world, girls aren’t as active as boys. In our city, this lack of movement is a serious problem – according to research, female middle school students in Springfield exercise for 1–1.5h per week, while male students exercise for 2–2.5h. Sedentary life can lead to serious problems in adulthood, such as obesity and high blood pressure.

In order to encourage girls to move as much as boys, the Springfield Department of Health is launching the Active Girls for Health campaign. The posters and leaflets feature real girls doing sports and physical activities in general. We want to show that physical activities should be a natural part of a girl’s life and that they can be fun and enjoyable. Also, the campaign highlights the benefits of physical activity for girls’ health.

The campaign aims at girls aged 11–17, studying in schools in the Springfield school district. Posters and leaflets will be distributed at three middle schools and two high schools. P.E. teachers in these schools will receive a booklet to work with the campaign in their classes.
