IMPORTANT: This document is intended to be a reference sheet for downloading and installing Microsoft Office 2011 on Mac OSX 10.6 and higher from SPC as a free digital download. This download is available for all credit, degree seeking students (AA, AS, AAS, BS, BAS and certificates but NOT JOB-NO or other non-degree seeking students). 

 A student who meets the above criteria can download software for FREE. There is a cost if a student wants a DVD to be shipped to him/her.

 To Download and Install on MAC OSX:1. Click the link under My Resources on MySPC called ‘Download Microsoft

Software’. This will take the student to a Microsoft authorized site for software download. We will have information available in college news section of MySPC. (See the screen shot below for reference.)

 

2. Once you have clicked on the ‘Download Microsoft Software’

 3. Click on the ‘Download Software Link’. This should open a new window with

the e5.onthehub site.

  

4. Click which product you wish to download.  

5. Make sure the tab at the top is set on Student. This is where you select which language you wish to download it in and you see the price is FREE in red. Right below the word FREE there is a ‘Add to Cart button’. Click it.

 

IMPORTANT: You only have one shot at this. You can download it ONCE and that’s it. If you try to download it again, they will get this error screen. Otherwise they will have to access it from their ‘Your Account’ Link.

 

 

 

 

6. Once they start the check out process, the first of 4 Screens will appear. Messages The will have to read the terms and conditions of the agreement.

7. The scroll down to the bottom and digitally sign the agreement form by entering Student ID # and Typing Full name as listed under the box. Then click ‘I Accept’

 

 

8. Then it will continue on to setp 2 of 4 of check out process. Questions. Make sure to answer ALL the following questions by pulling down the drop boxes and click ‘Next’ button. 

  

9. Then it will continue on to setp 3 of 4 of check out process. Order. Make sure to click ‘Proceed with Order’ button at the bottom of that screen.

 

 

 

10. Then it will continue on to setp 4 of 4 of check out process. Reciept. Toward the bottom of the Reciept screen it will say ‘Product Key: Retrieving’ and may spin for upto a minute. MAKE SURE you make the student stay on that page long enough to get that code and recommend printing the page for their records. ( see both before and after screen shots. Product Key will appear in red)   

 

 11. Once the product key has displayed, have them click the ‘Start Download’ button. 

 

 12. That will launch a new set of windows. Click ‘Download SDM’ which stands for, Secure Download

Manager.  

  

13. This will download to their Downloads folder by Firefox Default. Once downloaded, find file by right clicking the icon in the downloads window and right click (tap with two fingers on track pad) and select ‘Show in Finder’. This will open the file location and double click the file to install. 

Note: if the file does not open with default program ‘Installer’ they will have to right click (tap with two fingers on track pad) and select this path to find Installer app.

Select Hard Drive ( will be named different for every Mac) > System > Library > CoreServices > Installer. Make sure to check the box towards the bottom of the screen to ‘Always Open With’ then click ‘Open’ 

 14. Once they open the downloaded SDM.pkg file, it will take them throught the install process. 

Which should pop up and prompt them. Very generic and easy to do. Here is the process tree and what it looks like for refrence. Go through all the steps for the installer, then click ‘Close’.  

 15. The next step will be to click the ‘Download .SDX’ button. This is the actual Microsoft Installer file. 

This will launch a new window. Have them click on the 2 GREEN ‘Start Download’ Buttons.   

16. Once they have clicked on them, they will turn into progress bars with a Pause button to the right of them. Note: It took me almost 35 minutes to download on SPC Student WiFi. See screen shot below for reference.  

17. Once both of the files have downloaded, click the Green Button that says ‘Launch’. If that does not start the installer, have the student find the file and double click the .img file to start the install process. 

Note: if the file does not open with default program ‘Installer’ they will have to right click (tap with two fingers on track pad) and select this path to find Installer app.

Select Hard Drive ( will be named different for every Mac) > System > Library > CoreServices > Installer. Make sure to check the box towards the bottom of the screen to ‘Always Open With’ then click ‘Open’  

 18. Finally, it will open just like any other install… enter the product key provided and it should install 

to the applications folder. See screen shot for reference.
