This webquest will give you an introduction to simple machines
Your task will be to identify all of the simple machines and then find real world examples for each.
Introduction
This is a group assignment. Find one partner and work in groups of two.
You will identify all of the simple machines You will create a PowerPoint explaining the
function of each simple machine You will bring in an example of each
machine for class Create one mechanism
Task
1. Find a partner2. Identify all six simple machines using the internet then:3. Create a PowerPoint with the following slides
1. Title2. Table of contents3. One slide per machine4. Reference slide
4. Each machine slide must have:1. Machine name2. Description of machines function3. Picture of the machine
5. Find one real world example of each machine6. Present your real world examples to the class7. Use two or more machines to make a mechanism

Each machine slide with be worth an equal portion of the 50 points. You will lose points for
having no picture, no description of the machine, or a poor or inaccurate description.

You will receive an equal amount of points for each item you are suppose to bring it. Any item not
included will result in lost points
Evaluation
Now that you have research and presented real world examples of simple machines we are going to begin our mechanical gear unit. This unit will include many of the machines you have research and also show why it was important for you to make a mechanism.
Each of the mechanical gears will create one mechanism, your task will be to make one mechanism using all of the simple machines.
Conclusion
This project is meant for three-five 40 minute class periods. Two-three for research and PowerPoint creation. Two-three for presentation depending on hour large your classes are.
This lesson can stand on its own, you do not have to have a mechanical gears unit after. You could use it as an introduction to a Rube Goldberg assignment or other problem solving activity.
