Year 5/6 Gala Winter Sports Day

Our Years 5 & 6 students headed off for their interschool sports day on Monday. Wembley fielded teams in netball, soccer, volleyball, football and hockey. Several of the teams

were successful on the day and will be going on to the District level in a few weeks. Congratulations to all our sports teams who represented Wem-bley on this day and the teachers who had trained over the term.

Parent-Teacher Interviews Parent-teacher interviews will be held next week to discuss the pro-gress of students over Semester One. Student Learning Portfolios and Re-ports will be sent home Monday next week. The Prep –Year 2 students will have their interviews on Tuesday 24 June between 1.00-7.00pm and Years 3-6 interviews will be held on Wednesday 25 June 1.00-7.00pm. In-terviews for 4C-Brad Morin and 6A-Melanie Barger will be held in Term 3. Some teachers have opened up in-terview times for their second night. Interviews must be booked on the School Interviews website and the event code for this session is A8QZ3. Parents are able to request inter-views to be booked via the office if they do not have access to a com-puter.

Wedding Bells

Congratulations to Brad Morin (4C) and his fiancé Kirsten, who are to be married next week in Boston, USA. Brad will be taking leave from Friday of this week to travel to his parent‟s home, where the ceremony will be held. On behalf of the entire school community, best wishes are ex-pressed to Brad and Kirsten for a happy and memorable wedding day.

Anaphylaxis Alert It has been brought to our attention that stu-dents have been bringing nuts and nut products to school recently. As we have a number of stu-dents at Wembley who are anaphylactic and severely allergic to various types of nuts we ask all parents to be mindful and supportive when sending food to school. Any contact with nuts or products containing nuts may have life threatening consequences on these students. Your support with this is greatly appreciated.

Free Dress Day The Junior School Council has organized a „Free Dress Day‟ for Thursday, next week. They will be deciding who they will be raising funds for at their meeting this week. Reminders will be given at assemblies and Junior School Council-lors will be coming around to classes to remind students next week.

Sausage Sizzle

A Sausage Sizzle will be held at school on the last Friday of the term to support Mason Wray, Year 6, who has been selected to travel to Ja-pan and participate in an international baseball competition. All sausages need to be pre-ordered so that quantities can be determined before the day. Order forms for the Sausage Sizzle will be sent home today, Wednesday and must be returned to school by Tuesday of next week. Mason‟s parents and a group of helpers will be preparing the sausage sizzle next week. Parents are reminded that the canteen will not be open on this last day of school.

Planning For Term 2 This week and next week, teachers have been busy planning the curriculum for next term. They have been working collaboratively with their teams to plan the teaching and learning programs. Students attend Specialists classes whilst the teachers engage in the planning ses-sions.

End of Term 2

Friday 27 June will be the last day of Term 2 and students will be dismissed after assembly at 1.30pm. The Out of School Hours Care Pro-gram will be operating in this day.

TRIVIA NIGHT Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Wembley Primary School “Hollywood Trivia Night”. It was a fabulous evening of trivia, laugh-ter and dancing and one that will no doubt be remembered for a long time to come (or not re-membered at all, as the case may be!). Such an evening would not be possible without the exceptional talents of our very own Rusty Be-ther. He always does a legendary job and this year was no exception. Sadly, Rusty will not be “our very own” for much longer but we promise to start a petition to bring him back for the Trivia Night next year. And if that doesn‟t work there are always bribes. Leave it with us! We‟d also like to thank Treasury Wines for kindly donating much of the alcohol for the evening. They were beautiful wines that proved very popular and contributed in a large part to the great fundraising profits of the night. Many thank again to Treasury Wines for their amazing gener-osity. A huge thank you also goes out to the many won-derful sponsors who contributed items, gift vouchers and services for our raffle and auction. The donations really were incredible. We have attached a poster below with their business logos and ask that you kindly support them where you can as they have generously supported us. Finally, if you would like to see photos of the fun, color and mayhem on the night, please visit the notice board nearest the office. Photos will be on display and are available for purchase courtesy of our red carpet photographer Felicity. They make a great memento of a wonderful eve-ning and may help jog the memory of those for whom it‟s all a little fuzzy! Rebecca Courtnay

Remember when you believed in anything and everything?

Researchers from the University of Western Aus-tralia are investigating children‟s ability to de-tect and avoid potentially harmful social interac-tions, such as being easily fooled or tricked into doing something. We are looking to see how this develops in children, and when children outgrow this vulnerability. We are looking for parents of Kindergarten – Year 6 children across Australia to complete an online survey (15 – 20 minutes). Participants will go into a draw to win one of 10 $50 gift certifi-cates to Coles/Myers. To participate go to:
