It is very exciting to see the early formation of the partnerships between parents and staff that will characterize the personality of this school year. I believe that school years, just like people, demonstrate a personality throughout each year. Some are calm and quiet (rarely on our campus!) and others are energetic and fun filled. We have had years that had somber tones due to events that were difficult in the world or in our community. The vast majority of our years have been joyful and fast paced! This year is shaping up to be one filled with teamwork and positive changes! Thanks to all who transformed our RCC from a drab and utilitarian space to a bright and hoppin’ spot! The colors, curtains, furniture and art work create a space that brightens our mood and inspires us to be creative. New staff member, Tangela McFarlane, expressed an idea that quickly gained support and resulted in an amazing collection of hard working parents and staff members. Come see the difference! In addition to all the amazing ways your PAC leadership team has kicked off the new year, they have also impacted our academic resources in a big way! Taking the funds raised last year for technology, they purchased twelve (12) iPads for classroom use. With the new policy that allows students to access their personal devices and the set of iPads, we are well on our way to achieving the goal of increasing the use of technology in our classrooms. Thank you PAC! You may have noticed the renovation in Hagan Hall to accommodate more trophy cases, as well. The order for the cases will be placed once we raise the funds for them, but the inset wall will protect them from book bags and such. We want to show off our athletic successes and hope to have them in place before Homecoming in January! We are looking for great parent participation in our Booster Club and volunteers for the concessions stand. Let Lyle or Richie know if you can help! In a continued effort to highlight some of the areas that are unique with our program, let’s talk about our Dress for Success expectations. Our work place setting enables us to instill in our students daily behavior that encourages presenting themselves with confidence and professionalism. When visitors see our entire student body with neatly combed hair and business causal dress, they see our student body with potential and promise. Our young high school men look very responsible and mature in their long pants with their shirts tucked in. Our young ladies send a message of confidence and capability in their modest attire. We are consistent with our business casual dress code and expect our students to choose their clothing with those expectations in mind. Skirts that are too short, blouses that are too revealing, sloppy shirts and slacks are all subject to hourly deductions or separation from the group. We appreciate your supporting these expectations from the home front, as well. Check your calendars and come out in support of our teams who are heading full swing into their season! Our second New Parent Event will be held tomorrow night in the RCC. Put October 25th on your calendar for the First Annual Cougar Classic Car Show to be held on our campus! So much fun ahead!!

WELCOME NEW STAFF

The welcome continues to our new staff as they join our fabulous team here at TCS. We hope you meet them all soon. Héctor Vazquez: High School Spanish I was born in Monterrey. N.L. Mexico. There, I earned my degrees to teach Spanish and Science. I moved to Chicago, Illinois over 15 years ago, where I taught Bilingual Education for 11 years. My experience includes working with students from kindergarten to college. I am enthusiastic, driven, goal-oriented, and positive minded, and I always encourage my students to work hard and never give up, no matter how difficult the task. I absolutely love teaching. It is my passion and my calling in life. I have been teaching for 21 years. I plan on continuing as a classroom teacher until I retire. My students inspire me, make me laugh, and more often than not, it is they who teach me many life lessons! Michael Ann Harris: After School Program Michael Ann is a graduate of Kennesaw State University with a BS in Mathematics and a concentration in Education. She is certified to teach 6-12th grade math and is excited to be a part of the After School Program. She has tutored students in topics ranging from pre-algebra to calculus, and is looking forward to helping the students at TCS gain a better understanding of their math studies. Shannon Trombley: After School Program Shannon received a Bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts and a Master of Science for Teachers from the State University of New York and is currently working on her Doctor of Psychology degree from California Southern University. Shannon is certified to teach English Language Arts and has taught English composition and literature to students in grades 6-12. She also has extensive experience tutoring and working with students who have learning differences and special needs. Shannon uses a holistic approach to address the individual needs of her students in all grades and levels, helping to build their reading and writing skills. Her outside interests include spending time with her husband and three children, writing short stories, and tending to her garden.
