RESHAPING ENVIRONMENTS SEMESTER 1 2014 WEEK 1 REFLECTIVE JOURNAL NAME: ZEYU LI (VICKY) STUDENT NUMBER: 634091 INTRODUCTION As the lecture presented on Monday, reshaping environments is talking about human-physical environment and also highlighting the relationship between the human and environments. Being an architectural student, understand how human relate with environment is critical important. In this subject, I want to have a clear thoughts about this relationship and set up a system critical thinking. Moreover, because I never done reflective journal before, how to write reflectively and how to improve my skill are also the personal goals that I want to achieve. REFLECTIVE JOUNRAL FOR WEEK 1 HUMAN IMPACTS AND COLLAPSE This week’s reading mentioned one thing that I really interested at is human impacts on environments may cause a society collapse. The mismatch of the endless seek for resources and destroy the resources which we have is becoming a biggest concern to the society; moreover, the conflict of the interests in a short term and in a long term will cause a unsustainable decision. From my personal experience I’m really agree that unsuitable human activities will make a society chaos. As I’m a Chinese, China has a lot of environmental questions. Like my city, Ningbo. Actually, due to the seek of underground water cause a subtle sink of ground and the soil in Ningbo is not suitable for underground subway. However, because of the huge benefits it can bring, the process still going. Furthermore, people in Greenland destroy resources and log forest, it will cause soil erosion and deforestation, thus less land can be used for agriculture and may cause they’re nor enough food for the whole society. This reminds me when I went back to China this winter holiday, I found that city became bigger and bigger, a huge number of skyscraper buildings stand on where used to be the farmland. Soil erosion and deforestation which Diamond mentioned in Greenland also happened in China. In this week’s tutorial, a question most impressed me is “do human know these things will cause collapse?” However, people knows clearly what they are doing, like people around me, nearly most of them know should choose a green transportation to avoid global warming but just few of them actually do that, the rest of them have bought cars, use petrol and release carbon dioxide. Due the conflict of interests between human, I realized that it is really different to avoid society collapse just by one people.

REFLECTIVE JOUNRAL FOR WEEK 1

HUMAN IMPACTS AND COLLAPSEThis week’s reading mentioned one thing that I really interested at is human impactson environments may cause a society collapse. The mismatch of the endless seek forresources and destroy the resources which we have is becoming a biggest concern tothe society; moreover, the conflict of the interests in a short term and in a long termwill cause a unsustainable decision. From my personal experience I’m really agreethat unsuitable human activities will make a society chaos. As I’m a Chinese, Chinahas a lot of environmental questions. Like my city, Ningbo. Actually, due to the seekof underground water cause a subtle sink of ground and the soil in Ningbo is notsuitable for underground subway. However, because of the huge benefits it can bring, the process still going. Furthermore, people in Greenland destroy resources and logforest, it will cause soil erosion and deforestation, thus less land can be used foragriculture and may cause they’re nor enough food for the whole society. Thisreminds me when I went back to China this winter holiday, I found that city becamebigger and bigger, a huge number of skyscraper buildings stand on where used to bethe farmland. Soil erosion and deforestation which Diamond mentioned in Greenlandalso happened in China.
