the scoop JULY 18 2012 Welcome back to Term 3! Welcome also to George Bramer and parents Amy and Simon and Ethan Corson and parents Lydia and Mark into Room Manuka, Lily Symon and parents Annemarie and Todd into Room Rata and to Gregor Rutledge and parents Gina and Jason into Room Rimu. New term = new events! Moffett Cup - The Moffett Cup for Year 3-6 is one of the biggest events in the Southern Zone Schools calendar and 2012 is Myross Bush School's turn to organise it! The Friends of the School are coordinating the food side of the event for the day and they need your help - both with some food and some time on the day. Please see the flyer inserted in todays newsletter for what is needed and make contact if you are able to support our schools effort. Any funds raised on the day will be going towards the work that has made our 'new' classroom a reality! Practices also started this week and we have six before competition day on Friday the 3rd of August. We still need some coaches for some of our teams (1 for the rippa rugby and 1 for the Yr 3/4 netball teams) so if you are able to help with this on a Tuesday / Thursday afternoon for the next 3 weeks and on the actual Moffett Cup day this would be greatly appreciated. A huge thank you to the parents who have been able to take on this role. New classroom and office development - As you may have noticed Mark has had to start the term in the Activity Centre due to a delay in the arrival of the wall fabric for his classroom. This has gone up yesterday and today and things look good for him to move in on Friday and 'create' his learning space over the weekend. Some new furniture for Matai - Room 9 - is arriving by mid term so the new set up will gradually take the shape of what Mark envisages! 3 way interviews next week - These run next Tuesday (3-7.30pm) and Wednesday (1-5.30pm). Your participation and contribution in this important part of the second half of the year is highly valued. It reminds your children of the importance that their education has, the interest you have in their development, and gives the chance for the mid year snapshot to be 'brought to life' with discussion between you, your child and your child's teacher from the first half of the year. With the classroom changes you may want to make contact if your child has changed rooms. At the end of the year part of the end of year summary report will reflect on what you have discussed in these mid year interviews. Edna Johnston - This week saw the passing of an iconic local community member - Edna Johnston. Edna has had a significant relationship with our school over her lifetime in the Myross Bush community and has always been an interested and generous supporter of our local school. Our thoughts are with her husband Neil and the wider family and friends as they reflect on a life well lived and a faith that gave her strength throughout her life. Welcome back to Term 3!

We still need some

coaches for some of our teams (1 for the rippa rugby and 1 for the Yr 3/4 netball teams) so if you are able to help with this on a Tuesday / Thursday afternoon for the next 3 weeks and on the actual Moffett Cup day this would be greatly appreciated.

It reminds your children of the importance

that their education has, the interest you have in their development, and gives the chance for the mid year snapshot to be 'brought to life' with discussion between you, your child and your child's teacher from the first half of the year. With the classroom changes you may want to make contact if your child has changed rooms. At the end of the year part of the end of year summary report will reflect on what you have discussed in these mid year interviews.

Edna Johnston - This week saw the passing of an iconic local community member - Edna Johnston. It only needs to be for a half hour slot – to give those other volunteer parents a chance to watch their child’s game.

Even though this event is for Year 3-6 children, there may be someone in the junior school who is able to offer to help, and we would appreciate that. Week 1 Term 3

MANUKA have two new 5 year olds join our team this week - we welcome George and Ethan who have made a super start to their school days. We also welcome Mrs Davis who will be teaching on Thursdays in Manuka. It is great to see everyone back well and rested after the holidays. To keep away any bugs we are promoting lots of healthy habits such as hand washing regularly. We are about to embark on a new inquiry into caring for our environment and the impact we can have on it. We will be learning about living creatures and their needs in and around our community.

KOWHAI Welcome back to Term 3! It's great to see everyone well rested, recovered from all their coughs and colds and keen to learn! We all have maths counting goals that we are working on each day, counting forwards and backwards to 10, 20, 50 or 100! The trickiest bit is knowing which decade comes next (39-40, or 50-49). Ask your child what their goal is. We have started tuning in to our inquiry "Living and Giving" by finding out our ideas about what makes things 'living' or 'non living'. The unexpected arrival of a weta, and a video of a stick insect (thanks Scott!), has prompted some interesting discussion and 'wonderings' to kick start our thinking.

RIMU Welcome back to Term Three. The children have all come back happy and healthy and ready for another busy term. We welcome Gregor Rutledge into the class this term and Carter Dermody who joined us at the end of last term. We are working hard to pass our basic facts. Some children can solve the questions but they need to develop 'instant recall' of these to pass each level. Thank you to all the people who have returned their reading books already.

RATA Welcome back, It is great to see everyone looking rested and well again. I am really proud of the way that Rata have welcomed Lily, Addisyn and Eliza. I am making a few changes to our spelling homework. Everyone should have spelling homework by next week. This week Rata are hosting assembly. If your child has a speaking part they will have a script on Thursday to practise for homework. We would love you to come along and support us. Have a great week, Evelyn.

MIRO Welcome back to a new term. It is fantastic to see everyone so refreshed and in good health. We are very excited to have Jesse, Blake & Harriet as part of Team Miro. A class newsletter went home on Monday sharing some of what's happening this Term. If you have any questions please feel free to pop in or email me. I look forward to catching up with you at the mid-year interviews next week.Have a great week, Kiri

MATAI (Rm 9)• It’s great having a large classroom in the Activity Centre. Samantha• I can’t wait to see our new classroom when it is finished. Paige• It’s going to be great to move into our new classroom with all the break-out rooms for us to learn in. Cassie• It’s awesome to be starting Moffett Cup training and getting to know our new team. Jack

TOTARAWelcome to Team Totara for Term 3! I am lucky to have such a great group of children and we have all settled in very well with all the changes in classes. Thursday is our Library day. I look forward to catching up with some of you at interviews next week.

KAURI • We are enjoying having Ms Duncan for our teacher this term. Hannah• We are lucky to have the bottle bivvy in our room, why don’t you call in and have a look sometime. We are finding that it smells of old milk!. Sophie•It’s good to have the classes split up so

that people can get more time with the teacher. Aleisha
