Year 12 Formal - an Evening of Glamour

The class of 2011 or the ‘Year of Rapport’ looked glamorous in their gorgeous dresses and smart suits at their formal. This special event was held at the beautiful Links Hope Island where the fountain became a popular backdrop for many a photo. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and will cherish memories from the night as a highlight of their high school life at King’s.

Scripture of the week: Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord. Ephesians 6:7

Insight You Can Use Now Children often compete with each other in order to

be first or best. This tendency on the part of children comes from selfishness, a major roadblock to sibling harmony. The solution is to learn how to be a servant, but how do you convince a five-year-old or a twelve-year-old that being a servant is a valuable thing?

As parents we have to look for positive ways to frame the maturity issues that we know are best, but seem unreasonable to our children. In this case, you might try having a “Servant for the Day.” This child not only sets the table and takes out the trash but also gets some extra “Mummy time,” helps with din-ner, and sits next to Dad during story time. Through-out the course of the day, Mum has an opportunity to talk about more subtle aspects of servanthood that involve how children talk, listen, and even think.

Take time to praise demonstrations of servanthood. One child may not get the first turn or the biggest piece, but he gets the praise of Mum for being the mature one. That’s a far more valuable reward.

Strategy for the week: Teaching children to be servants will promote harmony in your family. Be-coming a servant will help children deal with the continual desire to build themselves up while putting others down. Learning servanthood is a way to hon-our others in the family and it brings honour back as well.

Budding Mathematicians How can I build the tower so it doesn’t fall over?

What pattern can I make for the number 4? Can I make 2 towers to be the same? The Noah’s Ark learning envi-ronment provides lots of challenge as children explore and experiment with play objects, using mathematical language and developing mathematical understand-ings.

SecondaryRaise Your Voice Festival

Proudly hosted by Knexion Youth and held at King’s Chris-tian Centre, Raise Your Voice Festival is a one day event for all the young women of the Gold Coast. If you’re in Year 8 or above we’ld love to invite you along!

This year’s theme is ‘Clothed In Light’, based on John 1.5: ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’.

Our heart is to see the young women of the Gold Coast united to be the light to this generation. We want to see you equipped and ready to show love, mercy and justice.

This year the festival is going to be a full day of fun, ex-citement, laughter and most of all, encounter with Jesus.

We will be holding three main sessions: A morning rally, a lunch session (including a tasty picnic and our “mercy session”) and our finale - a massive celebration to end the festival. We’ll give you plenty of time to go home and get changed before the night session!

So from the team at Raise your Voice Festival, we can’t wait to see you ignited, danced-out, fired-up and changed by what God has in store!

For more details please see one of our College chaplains or go to www.kings.net.au and follow the links.

Anaphylaxis Dear Parents,Across the college, we have a number

of children who suffer from life-threat-ening anaphylaxis. Although allergic re-actions to food are common in children, severe life-threatening reactions are uncommon and deaths are rare. However, for children who suffer food-induced anaphylaxis, the result could be fatal.

Children at King’s may have severe reactions to a variety of products, including but not limited to, nuts, fish, milk, eggs and latex.

While we realise we cannot control everything, we ask you to think carefully when preparing lunches and snacks for school, especially in the prep and lower primary de-partments, where children love to share. We ask spe-cifically that if possible you avoid packing nuts, peanut butter sandwiches or bars which contain nuts.

We thank you for your assistance in this matter. ~ Andrea Webb, College Nurse

Have you ever felt thirsty?Quote from Power New Testament

Wouldn’t that suggest you need to get rehydrated? Have you ever felt hungry? Wouldn’t that suggest that you need some nutrition? Have you ever felt lonely? Wouldn’t that suggest you need companionship? Have you ever felt lonely in a crowd? Wouldn’t that suggest that you needed compan-ionship with someone other than another person? God will be there for you! “Don’t fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have. The Lord has promised that he will not leave us or desert us.” Count on it!
