In this Edition PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome back to another term at Parramatta State School. I trust you all had an excellent holiday and you are ready for the next great push towards the end of the year. We extend a warm welcome to the new families who have joined us this term. Parramatta has grown by over 20 percent over the last eighteen months and we are currently sitting on 382 students. This is a testament to the hard work that the staff have put in and we are expecting this growth to continue as word of our positive school culture and strong academic results continue. We have many great things planned for our students this term. We have students starting new units of work and assessment with all of this leading into the semester two reporting period. As you know, this term flies by even faster than the others do. I am sure teachers will appreciate any support that you can offer with reading, group work and other classroom activities. This term we will be holding our first ever awards night where our students’ hard work will be acknowledged. The awards night will include students from across the school. Please stay tuned for more information in regards to this event as the term progresses. With the weather warming up, the classrooms will once again be using the air conditioners. It is also imperative that students have hats and sunscreen to avoid unnecessary sun damage. It is also recommended that students have water bottles, which they can keep under their desks or in the class fridge to prevent repeated interruptions to learning when students need a drink. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGEDear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to another term at Parramatta State School.

Regards

PARENTS AS ROLE MODELS FOR CHILDREN As educators we know that modelling the behaviour we expect is very important. Children are extremely perceptive little people who watch and learn from everything we do. This is really important for parents to remember as well.

If you cross the road wherever and whenever you like, your child(ren) will feel that this is appropriate. While we as adults have the perception necessary to gauge speed of approaching vehicles, time needed to safely cross, when danger is evident, our children do not.

If you don’t wear a hat and put on sunscreen when you are outside, children will not see the need to do so either. All of the little things we do or don’t do are under constant scrutiny from our children.

Why are we talking about this? At times, in the busyness of our lives, we lose sight of how important we are in forming the value and belief systems and behavioural patterns for our children.

Social behaviour and social norms are things that we, as responsible adults, need to model for our children. They are the basic fibre of our society and need to be learnt.

Our school responds to this through our expectations for children through our RSL Rules – RESPECT, SAFETY and LEARNING. We work hard to model and teach these things with our children because we believe that they constitute a realistic framework for children to develop under. We anticipate that you as parents support this at home and in the wider community as well. Some of the activities that reflect our beliefs about social norms and values include:

• School Assemblies

• ANZAC Day ceremony

• Playing the National Anthem on parade and standing respectfully while it is played/sung

• Student Council support for children in need (sponsorship) and charities.

These are just a few of the myriad of activities that go together to build responsible and respectful citizens of the future. We look forward to continuing this vital work with you and your children.

Reminder for parents/carers to contact the school office to update your child’s records if you have recently moved or changed phone numbers. The ladies in the office sometimes have difficulty getting in contact with families if their child is sick or injured.

PREP 2022We are currently taking Prep enrolments for 2022. All current families who will have a child coming to Prep next year must complete an enrolment form. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the school office. When they are completed they need to be brought back to the office along with the original birth certificate of the child. A short interview will be held with each new enrolment. Getting in early will save you time next year. Our school has had a 20% increase in enrolments over the last year so it is important to get in early to secure your spot.

Prep 2022 Transition DaysEnrolled students are invited to attend our Transition to School Activities:
