NPS NEWSLETTER In this issue… Week 9 Term 4 2018 From the Principal Dear Parents/Caregivers, As we draw close to the end of another fast paced year we look back at the many experiences, achievements and activities that our students have been a part of and succeeded in and we are constantly amazed at how we were able to fit it all in. Our year has been one of many highs and great sadness with the loss of our dearly loved Assistant Principal Mrs Helen Wilson. On Thursday we will stand with her family and friends and celebrate her life and the wonderful opportunities she provided for our families and students. I can still see her laughing and clapping as she played games with the Year 5 students in the hall each week and she would plan how to make the challenges more complex and fun. Remember that both teachers and students will finish the year on Wednesday 19 December. Please stay safe over the Christmas break enjoy your holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back next year ready to start a new year of learning. We have had an incredible learning journey this year in Kindergarten. We are so proud of each and every one as they have really strived hard for their best. Recently we have been using Christmas words to write simple sentences and even compound sentences.

So Christmas will be a good day. I will hang the stocking up and I put cookies in the stocking – Zavier

Santa is coming to town. I love Santa. Santa is a boy. Santa brings presents to me. This is the best Christmas ever – Sienna

I like elves because they are small and they have sharp ears. They live in the North Pole with Santa and they come out at Christmas time – Shane

Santa is the best because he gives us presents. I love Santa. He has a sleigh – Leila

I put the star on the tree and presents under the tree – Lala’ai

I think reindeers eat carrots – Rhyan

I went to Santas sleigh on Christmas Day. Next I went to the North Pole and I liked it – Kehlsie

I can see Santa but I cant find the reindeer - Ellie

5/6T have been working on the garden outside our classroom. The inspiration for the garden is ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Students have given up their lunchtime and worked on a Friday afternoon to clear and prepare the garden for painting. Here are some pictures of student recreating the yellow brick road and then green pillars to represent the Emerald City.

2018 Science Report With this being the final Noumea newsletter for the year I would like to take this opportunity to reflect and thank those that make Science fun and an integral part of Noumea. Firstly, I would like to thank our parents and carers. With your support our students are able to participate in so many of the amazing learning opportunities on offer here at Noumea. Whether it be Fishing days, Forensic or Environmental workshops or mobile Planetariums, each and every term is different and it’s always pleasing to see the number of permission notes roll in. So thank you and keep up the great work. Next, I would like to thank the dedicated staff at Noumea. As learning partners they provide assistance in the form of their flexibility and willingness to promote and help provide quality learning opportunities wherever possible. So a big thank you must also go their way. And finally, I would like to thank the students. When you consider the number of students participating in science activities and the amount of awards handed out each term it means our students are learning and that’s reassuring to know. So a thank you must also go to those students who make the most of their learning. Mr Ford

Kindergarten Enrolments for 2019 We are still taking Kindergarten enrolments for 2019. If you have a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for 2019, please assist us by completing an enrolment form. Forms are available from the office. Please bring your child’s birth certificate/passport, immunisation documents and proof of address with you. Your assistance in this matter helps with planning for 2019. If you are aware of a family in the area who has a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for 2019, please ask them to contact the school office.

Kindergarten Orientation Our final Kindergarten Orientation visit concluded last week and it has been great to welcome our new students to Noumea Public School. All students were very settled during the visits and interacted well with their new classmates, teachers and big buddies. We are looking forward to their first day of ‘big school’ in 2019!

Semester 2 Student Progress Reports

As part of our school student reports, we provide information regarding your child’s effort in each Key Learning Area, as well as his/her academic performance. It is very important to take into consideration a child’s effort when viewing reports, as it shows the diligence and commitment to his/her work.

Week 9 Term 1 2018

Noumea PS Staff would like to wish our school community a

Merry Christmas

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break. See you in 2019!
