Notice of PTFA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The next meeting of the Uffculme School Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) will take place on Tuesday 2nd April at 7pm in the school Dining Hall. Parents, carers and staff of Uffculme School are
warmly invited to attend. The PTFA is a registered charity run by parents, carers and staff to raise money for the school for equipment
and events that would not normally be affordable from the school budget. The AGM will be followed by the first Christmas Craft Fair
planning meeting, so if you’d like to be involved or find out more about this popular event, do come and join us!
Have you joined the School Lotto yet? Sign up any time on ParentPay or at the Finance Office to be in with a chance to win one of three cash prizes every month and support the
School Trust at the same time.
Year 9 Immunisations
All Year 9 parents should have received information about forthcoming vaccinations against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio and Meningitis by email
this week. The letter can also be seen on the website under Student Life/Letters Home/Year 9.

Activities Week Payments All Activities Week payments will
be due next month. Please be aware that you can make payment in instalments of any amount, at any time until the deadline on
26th April; we strongly advise you to make use of this option, to reduce the chance of encountering financial difficulties if payment is
left until close to the deadline. Unfortunately, if payment is not made by the deadline, your child may not be able to attend their chosen
activity.
Permission Slips Please can all parents/carers be aware that if you are booking or
paying for a trip/event for your child via ParentPay, you do not need to send in a signed permission slip as well. Booking via ParentPay

Science Club; ‘Eggtastic’ Challenge
Well done to the winners of this year’s ‘Eggtastic’ Challenge! The details of the challenge were as follows;
‘Your team is to design and build a protective casing for your ‘Egganaut’ to use as it re-enters our orbit. The casing must prevent a raw ‘Egganaut’ from breaking after it has accelerated under the force of gravity for a distance of one metre or more. Your casing: CANNOT
exceed 10cm x 10cm x 10cm in size, must not weigh (without the egg) more than 500g and can ONLY be made using the materials provided in class. Your egg must be able to be placed in and removed from the casing – remember, it’s only to be used in an emergency! The more
creative you are the more house points you will collect for your team!’
There were two winning groups:
Year 7: Katie Flicker and Aiden Bright. Year 8: Charlie Tressider, Harry Thompson and Ewan Harkness-
Moore.
Both groups have collected points for their houses, but Katie and Aiden also won themselves the Creativity Award for using water to
protect their egg - good thinking!
Well done to you all.

We are delighted to present an hour of diverse and jaw dropping ensemble work from the Performing Arts Music department, preceded
by an hour of acoustic acts to enjoy. With Ensembles from Year 7 to 11, we would like to invite you to support and enjoy an evening of
performances and celebrate the work they have developed in lessons. This event will be ticket only, and all funds raised will go towards the Music suite which you are welcome to come and visit on this evening
to witness the impact of recent fundraising events. The bar will be open for an hour before the Ensemble show starts at 7.30pm,
with acoustic entertainment from the students whilst you enjoy a pre-show drink and snack. For more information, please contact Mrs Luing-Holmes on [email protected]

revision. There are sections on the importance of breaks, getting a good night’s sleep, managing stress and anxiety and ideas on brain food. The guide is available to download from our website on the
Exams page under Student Life.

Trampolining Star Congratulations to Daniel Barker-Maslin
(7STONE) who competed in the South West Trampolining NDP Regional Qualifiers on Sunday 24th February in Bath. Daniel was competing in the 13+ age category and
came 2nd, winning himself a Silver medal. This result also means he qualifies for the Regional Finals, which will take place in Bath later in March. Well done Daniel!
Student Achievements
Well done to the five student swimmers who attended the Warm Weather Training Camp (run by ECSC Head Coach and former
Uffculme School student Jo John) in Fuerteventura with Exeter City Swimming Club during February half term. All five students are
members of the club and over the course of the week they completed eleven 2-hour swim training sessions as well as six 2-
hour land based sessions. They worked really hard, but had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to train in an outdoor pool in the
sunshine as opposed to the early morning training sessions and evening sessions in the dark, cold and wet weather that they usually
experience at this time of year! Well done to: Wilfred Arrowsmith, Honey Drury, Jess Swanston,
Scarlett Joiner and Samuel Arrowsmith.
