Principal Notes

We are coming to the end of our first quarter. It is hard to believe that we have been in school for over 2 months. If you have any questions about your child’s grades, please contact the teacher. Conferences for

first quarter are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov. 24. They will both run 3:30-8:00 PM.

Next week we will be collecting Treats for Troops. There is a flyer in the mailer this week. This is part of Operation Gratitude which sends candy to our troops overseas and to those recovering locally. This is a

great way to donate left over candy from Halloween.

Just a few reminders on uniforms, especially as we move into cooler weather

Students in grades 5-8 may wear navy blue or khaki pants or shorts

Students in grades K4-4 wear navy blue pants or shorts

No cargo pants or shorts are allowed as part of the dress code

Shirts are solid colors of red, white or navy blue

Socks need to be solid colors of white, red, navy blue, or black

Seton Catholic Schools

I am excited to share a new venture that St. Matthias Parish School has been invited to join. The

Archdiocese of Milwaukee is creating a collaboration of schools which will be called Seton Catholic

Schools. It is named in honor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the founder of the first Catholic schools in the

USA. This will be a network of schools which will share resources to help move the schools forward such

as professional development opportunities for teachers and large-group purchasing. There will also be a

central office to assist the school with finances, human resources, marketing and technology.

I am very excited for this new opportunity. Twenty-six schools will be involved over the next three years.

St. Matthias Parish School will be in the first cohort of this journey which will start in the 2016-2017

school year. I believe there are so many opportunities for our school, staff and students to advance.

More information will be coming in the next few weeks. Please watch the mailer for more information on

St. Matthias Parish School as a Seton Catholic School.

Help Needed at Mass

St. Matthias Parish is looking for students to help hand out pledge cards during our annual pledge weekend, November 21 & 22. If your child would be available, please call the school office. We are

looking for 4 students to serve at each Mass. We ask that they wear their school uniform as well. Thank you for your support of St. Matthias Parish.

Hot Lunch Prices

When we changed food service providers in January 2015, St. Matthias Parish School also withdrew from

the National School Lunch Program. This program assisted schools by reimbursing them for meals if a

family qualified under the Free and Reduced program requirements. Since St. Matthias does not receive

meal reimbursements from this program, we are unable to absorb the cost of these meals. Therefore,

parents need to pay the full cost of the meal, $3.25.

As a reminder, St. Matthias’s Lunch policy states that a family may not carry a deficit food account

balance. If your student’s account has a negative balance, the student will not be allowed to purchase ala

carte items.

If a family’s food account balance is continuously negative, the student will be unable to participate in

extra-curricular activities including athletics during the semester.

Please contact either Mr. Jonathan Richter or Mrs. Susan Booth at 414-321-0894 if you have questions.

Hot Lunch prices:

Student Lunch with milk $3.25

Milk only $0.50

Rocky Rococo Lunch with milk will cost $3.75. Just like last year, there is an additional $0.50 for this lunch due to the cost of Rocky Rococo pizza.

Power School Parent Access

Parents should have received information to create your PowerSchool accounts to access. If you did not get your temporary login, please call the school office. Please also, note the following:

Parent access is temporary. You will create your own login information.

You can link your children so that you only have one login to access all your children’s

information. Please update your email addresses. Teachers will be emailing you directly through PowerSchool,

but the parent must enter in the email address.

There is a student access code at the bottom of the sheet. This is so your child can log in to

monitor their grades. I suggest having students in grades 6-8 do this. It is a great way for them to take responsibility for their schoolwork.

There is only one log-in per child. If there is more than one household, the parents will receive

the same log-in. Both parents should be able to create their own individual logins from the

temporary logins. I have also included a listing of our grades. The Archdiocese has adjusted the grading scale in

that that are no longer +/-. The scale is the same we have used in the past, but now an A is

anything between a 93-100 versus an A-, A, or an A+.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Booth at 414-321-0894 or [email protected]

8th Annual Catholic Memorial Haunted House

Hometown Heroes. The Haunted House is located at 601 E. College Avenue, Waukesha and runs October 30th and 31st from

7:00 to 10:00 p.m. (with a family friendly hour at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31st)

Cost is $7.00 per person. For more information please email us at [email protected]

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures

As you have seen, we have drawn new parking lines and direction arrows on the parking lot. This is for

the safety of the children. We want to ensure that they are able to move safely to and from the car in the

AM and PM.

In planning for the lines to be redone, it was suggested to try and have the same route for the AM drop

off and the PM pick up. For this reason we have 2 slight changes. First, all cars entering and leaving via

Oklahoma will park facing the center of the parking lot. We currently do that in the AM. We will be doing

it in the PM as well. Second, at the PM dismissal, we had one lane that would exit via Oklahoma, now

all cars that enter through Euclid and park on the east side of the parking lot will exit via Beloit Rd.

I have attached an updated map. We tried to make the route as simple as possible. Please review the

map and share it with any family members who pick up your child. We will have staff outside to

help direct the traffic as we realize this is a change and it will take time for everyone to adjust.

Please see the few reminders:

The routes for drop-off in the morning have not changed.

If entering on Oklahoma, drive toward the cemetery fence. There are now 2 lanes for parking.

Please face east, toward 92nd St., for both AM and PM times. If entering on Euclid, drive in and park in any of the 3 lanes. All of these 3 lanes will leave via

Beloit Rd. This is a change for the row closest to the center of the parking lot.

Please do not drive across the yellow lines between the two parking areas. This is the safe

walking zone for children.

If you have any questions, please contact me.
