A POWERFUL INTERCESSOR

On this third Sunday of 2019 we wave again at Mary as the gospel presents her as a powerful intercessor. At Cana the 'best wine' Jesus poured in abundance signifies the newness of grace that He provides hu-manity that had run out of love and joy. In the ancient Jewish traditions the wine symbolized love and joy. A wedding where the wine came to run out was consid-ered a failed wedding that would run out of love and joy. It was a bad sign, and a great embarrassment for the newlywed. Such an issue doesn't escape the su-pervision of the Super Witness who is the Blessed Vir-gin Mary. She is the one who tells Jesus: "They have no wine." When Jesus at first resists her remark on the pretense that "his hour had not yet come," Mary tells the servants: "Do whatever He tells you." The first mir-acle of Jesus shows that Mary is a gentle and powerful intercessor. Mary is a very attentive mother who con-tinues to intercede for us before her divine Son. We bring our prayers to Mary because she can obtain for us special favors that only she can. As a matter of fact, Jesus was present at Cana, but it was Mary’s interven-tion that made it possible for the first miracle to hap-pen. What a privilege for this young couple, the Blessed Mother was at their wedding. Mary also wills to be at all our celebrations, especially in our endeav-ors to witness to all the love and mercy of God. May we never fail to invite her to be with us! May we greet her more often and make her a mother and a friend in our daily lives! We will experience her beneficial pres-ence and enjoy her motherly assistance and protec-tion. Mary will lead us to Jesus in a sure way. Holy Mary, Mother of God, and our Mother, pray for us sin-

ners, now and at the hour of our death!

NOTRE DAME D'ALTAGRACE:

January 20 ~ Second Sunday of Ordinary Time “Do whatever he tells you.” These are the words of Mary at the end of today’s gospel! Mary is saying these words to us too – to you and me. What is He telling us to do? The psalm gives us one response – “Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations.” St. Paul also reminds us that we have been giv-en special gifts. Do you recognize the special gifts that the Spirit has given to you? Pray for the grace to use your gifts to proclaim his marvelous deeds - to family, neighbors, friends,

co-workers.
