Dear Families, Partners and Colleagues, This weekend, 337 Holyoke seniors will walk across the stages at

the WWII Memorial and Holyoke High School to receive their high

school diplomas. These well-established commencement

exercises at Dean Tech and Holyoke High School, mark the

tremendous accomplishments of remarkable young people, their

families and the educators who have inspired them to follow their

dreams and focus on education. Commencement also marks new

beginnings for our graduates, many of whom will join the world of

work, head off to college and pursue careers in community and

military service.

In particular, we would like to recognize Salutatorians Wendelyn

Hildago and Melanie Kos, and Valedictorians Edeni Colon and

Laura Ernst, at Dean Technical High School and Holyoke High

School, respectively. These young women truly exemplify the best

of Holyoke. They have achieved remarkable success in their

academic careers and as leaders in their schools. They are critical

thinkers and great communicators. Most importantly, these young

women have demonstrated again and again how much they value

themselves, value others and value being part of the Holyoke

community. It’s been an honor to get to know them and so many

of their peers this past year. Please join us in wishing them every

success and happiness as they head out into the world beyond high

school.

Summer Information

The last day of school is June 20, 2016 for all schools except Morgan School. (Morgan’s last day will be Tuesday, June 21st –12pm dismissal). The HPS Summer Scholars Program information is available for grades 2-5, grades 6-8, and rising 9th – 12th grade students at http://www.hps.holyoke.ma.us/summer.htm. Summer learning matters. Students lose an average of 2 months of learning over the summer. Don’t wait to enroll in these programs, most of which are free to HPS students. Breakfast and lunch are provided, and transportation is provided when indicated by district policy. Space is limited. Enroll your student today! The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education needs sponsors for its Summer Food Service Program- http://www.doe.mass.edu/cnp/nprograms/sfsp/ to help ensure that students who receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year also receive nutritious meals during the summer. Sponsors can include nonprofit organizations; units of municipal, county, state or federal government; public or private nonprofit residential camps; and public or private nonprofit school food authorities. JULY-AUGUST

Students in grades K‐8 will return their completed reading

calendar to their schools and students in high school will

return their completed reading journals to their schools by

September 6. All students who do this will be eligible to

win a Chromebook in their school’s raffle in early

September. In addition, Dr. Zrike will provide a special

school wide treat to the school that has the overall highest

percentage of students returning their completed calendar

or journal. If at least 1,000 Holyoke students complete the

Reading Challenge, Dr. Zrike and Mayor Morse will have a

dance off!

Estimados Amigos, Colegas, Socios y Familias:

Este fin de semana, 337 estudiantes de cuarto año de Holyoke (seniors)

caminarán a través del escenario en el WWII Memorial y la Escuela

Superior de Holyoke para recibir su diploma de escuela superior. Estos

ejercicios de graduación bien establecidos en Dean Técnica y la Escuela

Superior de Holyoke, marcan los grandes logros de estos destacados

jóvenes, sus familias y los educadores que los han inspirado a seguir sus

sueños y centrarse en la educación. Esto también marca un nuevo

comienzo para nuestros graduados, muchos de los cuales se unirán al

mundo laboral, se irán a las universidades y seguir una carrera

comunitaria y el servicio militar.

En particular, nos gustaría reconocer Salutatorians Wendelyn Hildago y

Información de Verano El último día de clases es de 20 de junio de 2016, para todas las escuelas excepto la escuela Morgan. (Último día de Morgan será el martes 21 de junio de -12pm salida). La información de los Programas de Verano de las Escuelas Públicas de Holyoke está disponible para los grados 2-5, 6-8 grados, y del 9 - grado 12 en http://www.hps.holyoke.ma.us/summer.htm. DE VERANO DE HOLYOKE

JULIO-AGOSTO

Los estudiantes en los grados K‐8 regresarán su calendario

de lectura completado a sus escuelas y los estudiantes en la

escuela secundaria regresarán sus diarios dialécticos

completados a sus escuelas el 6 de septiembre. Todos los

estudiantes que hagan esto serán elegibles para ganar un

Chromebook en la rija de su escuela a principios de

septiembre. Además, el Dr. Zrike proporcionará una delicia

especial a la escuela que tiene el porcentaje global más alto

de estudiantes que regresan su calendario o diario
