Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Welcome Fr. Cristian. This weekend we are delighted to welcome to our parish Fr. Cristian Birnat, a priest of the Diocese of Iasi in Romania. Fr. Cristian is currently studying in Rome and is coming here for a month before he resumes his studies in September. Welcome Fr. Cristian and we hope you enjoy your stay with us in Mountmellick. Céad Míle Fáilte.
Lourdes Pilgrimage: Our 2019 Lourdes Pilgrimage, in conjunction with the Kildare and
Leighlin Diocesan Pilgrimage led by Bishop Nulty, finished on Wednesday last. Once again the
atmosphere, prayer and friendship helped make the pilgrimage a fulfilling experience for all.
Many thanks to Eleanor Duff for all her work and to all the pilgrims for their co-operation and
good humour. Please God we’ll do it again next year. Maybe you would join us? Our Lady of
Lourdes and St. Bernadette pray for us.
Three Feast Days Next Week: Weds 14th ‘St. Maximilian Kolbe’ who died in the concentration
camp at Auschwitz, during World War II, and is remembered as a “martyr of charity” for dying in place
of another prisoner who had a wife and children. He was canonized by Pope St. John Paul II on October
10, 1982. Thurs 15th ‘The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary’. In today's gospel we have a
description of the blessed life of the Virgin Mary. A blessed life to which the assumption is an appropri-
ate end, and perhaps the only logical conclusion. It makes sense, that she should be assumed
into heaven, as a representative of humanity, where she intercedes for us all. Sat 17th ‘Our Lady of
Knock’ – Knock Shrine celebrates the 140th anniversary of the 1879 Apparition this year. The theme
for the Annual Novena is ‘Continuing Our Journey’. The Novena takes place at 3.00pm and 8.00pm
each day from Tues Aug 14th to Thurs Aug 22nd. The Anointing of the Sick takes place at 2.30pm
daily.
