What are Dual Credits?

-Ministry-approved programs that allow students while they are still in secondary school, to take college or apprenticeship courses

What are Dual Credits?

- courses count towards both the students’ (OSSD) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or an apprenticeship certification

Dual Credits Policy Highlights

• Maximum of 4 (Dual Credits) optional credits towards OSSD

• Course code ends: 4T - Dual Credit & 4Y - OYAP

• Many delivery approaches

• No cost to the student

• Role of the Dual Credit Teacher will vary according to the delivery model

A & E

- Does not align with Growing Success policy

- Assessment & Evaluation follow College guidelines

- Grades assigned by college instructors/professors must not be adjusted

- Passing grades may differ from college to college

Dual Credit Target Groups

3 Student Groups:

-Disengaged and underachieving but with the potential to succeed (Primary Target Group)

-SHSM students enrolled in college-delivered programs

-OYAP students

Dual Credit Models

Program Delivery

- ½ day / week- 1 or 2 full days / week- 2-5 days / week (May/June Model & Level 1)Best suited for:- Co-op Students- Alternative Education

Dual Credit Courses? Many!• Gen. Ed. courses (Sociology,

Psychology, Health Literacy etc.)

• ICT and Multimedia (Digital Design, Gaming, Operating & Sound Systems)

• Career-Specific (ECE, Police Foundations, Spa Mgmt., Fashion, Culinary, Horticulture, Physical Ed.)

• Arts (Acting , Dance, Drawing, Design)

Dual Credit: Pre-Apprenticeship• Allows students to explore

before committing to skill trades

• Majority of students will not have a RTA

• Course code ends with 4T• Option for secondary

schools with limited skill trades facilities

• Purposeful planning Level 1?
