Attendance

• Arriving late to lab- If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, you will not be allowed to turn in the prelab assignment which will result in a loss of 2 points.

• If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may turn in your lab report with a 2 point penalty, but YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND LAB.

Attendance

• Absence- Excessive lab absences will result in you being dropped from the lecture and the lab portion of the course.

• If you cannot attend a lab, you cannot make it up unless you get approval from your current instructor AND the instructor you intend to make up your lab with. – Any lab make-ups must occur during the

SAME LAB WEEK. – You may not make up more than one lab

this way; unless there are special circumstances that have been cleared with your instructor.

Points in Laboratory

• 144 points- 12 labs worth 12 points each– Most labs have a prelab worth 2 points and

the report worth 10 points

• 100 points- Lab Final– Review is in the back of your lab manual

• Lab points are added to points in lecture to give you a course grade– Labs are about 31.5% of your grade

Page 7: Welcome to Biology 181 Laboratory!

Late Lab Assignments• Labs and prelabs must be turned in within the first 5

minutes of your lab period. • Prelabs will not be accepted after five-minute grace

period. • Labs turned in after this five-minute grace period

will lose 2 points. – For example, if you are late for every lab you will lose 20

points and your entire course grade is lowered by 2.7%.

• Labs that are turned in the following week (1 week late) will lose 5 points. – If you can’t turn in the lab on its due date due to an

absence, you may turn it in the following week for no penalty (if the absence was an OCC sanctioned excuse).

Page 8: Welcome to Biology 181 Laboratory!

Lab Final

• Lab finals must be taken at the time specified on the syllabus

• If you miss the lab final– You may make up the non-practical type

questions of this exam only. – For example, if 30 of the questions are

“practical” then the best you can do on a make-up lab final is 70/100.

• If you choose to cheat, you will be dismissed from the class and receive an “F” grade on the assignment/test or in the class depending on the severity of the offense.

• In addition, administration will be notified for further action, which may include (among other actions) a notation on your permanent OCC Student Records.
