Declaration for EEA and Swiss citizens
In accordance with the Hungarian law, EEA and Swiss citizens who have been residing
in Hungary for more than a year (2-year MA or PhD students after their 1st year of
residence in Hungary) are obliged to enroll in the Hungarian State Health Insurance
System and apply for a so-called TAJ card and pay a contribution to the Hungarian State
Health Care System. If you receive a full fellowship, partial fellowship, full, or partial
tuition scholarship from CEU, then the monthly payment will be undertaken by CEU.
Please note that you must file the necessary paperwork on your own but CEU will assist
you in this process. Students holding valid European Health Insurance card (EHIC) are
not required to obtain TAJ coverage but have to obtain a registration card and also an
address card.
CEU shall only provide technical assistance and shall bear no obligation regarding the
tax and duty payment obligations arising from the student’s negligence. The National Tax
and Customs Administration (NAV) of Hungary has the right to impose a fine and collect
any outstanding fee(s) even after the student left the country.
