OUR MISSION STATEMENT Good Shepherd is a Christian, caring community, nourished by a joyful spirit-filled liturgy that inspires our daily lives. We strive
to welcome, accept and love all people as they are, and through our ministries reach out with active concern to those in need.
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time —August 16, 2009
Welcome To
GOOD SHEPHERD Catholic Church
Menomonee Falls, WI
Do you remember learning to talk? I don’t
remember learning to talk. It seems that I always
knew how to talk. It is something I learned from
my parents and the people around me. We learn to talk
by listening to our parents. It is simply handed on from
generation to generation. Faith is passed on the same
way. Children learn about God from their parents and
the people in their lives.
Parents play a very important role in the Christian
formation of their children. From the earliest days of the
Church faith was passed from generation to generation
at home through stories, rituals, traditions, practices
and participation in the larger faith community.
The Generations of Faith approach to Christian formation honors and
supports parents as the primary catechists of their children. At the monthly
GOF session, parents will learn about an upcoming event on the Church cal-
endar, such as the Feast of All Saints on November 1. Everyone will learn
about the Church event through shared stories, activities, music, art, drama,
and prayer. Families will take home a canvas bag with materials, activities
and resources to use at home to incorporate the
learning experience into their home life. Then, fami-
lies are invited to come to the Church event, such as the
Feast of All Saints on November 1. The Church event is
the focus of each GOF session and parents can help their
children fully participate at Mass.
If you have not yet registered for Generation of
Faith, please consider registering your family soon, as the
sessions are quickly filling. If you have questions or need
registration material, please call the Christian Formation
Office at 262.255.2035.

“Parents are the most influ-
ential agents of catechesis
for their children. They
have a unique responsibility
for the education of their
children. They are the first
educators, or catechists.”
—National Directory for
Catechesis, #54.C
“Faith Formation is a cyclic proc-
ess of learning: preparing all ages
and all generations for meaningful
participation in church events, en-
gaging all ages and generations in
the events, and assisting people in
reflecting on the significance and
meaning of the event and applying
the learning to their lives as
Catholics”

GAY and STRAIGHT in CHRIST
Flag your evening of Thursday,
October 22nd for a gourmet chili
supper and viewing of an informa-
tive and emotional family movie
titled ―Anyone and Everyone.‖
Thanks. . . "On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Association for Lesbian
and Gay Ministry, I would like to thank you for your donation of $1000. Your
generosity remains critical to our work of 'setting the table' for lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender Catholics, their families and their friends. Your
continued support - in donations, in prayer, in time and/or in talent - helps
us to light the candles on the table of happy meeting, inviting all sorts of
people to come and share their lives with us. We profess to be a network of
support and education, but it is only through your concrete acts of kindness
that our profession is anything more than (as Prince Hamlet might say)
'words, words, words." From the bottom of our hearts we thank you for the
opportunity to keep the candles burning and the table set for whoever
might need us."
Gratefully,

Archdiocese on Facebook and Twitter
Since April 2009, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee has been on Facebook
and Twitter. Both are great ways for keeping up on archdiocesan news,
including the announcement of a new archbishop!
To sign up and join the archdiocesan Facebook group page, go to
www.facebook.com. Once you have signed into to Facebook, search for
―Archdiocese of Milwaukee‖ and check the All Results tab or Group tab.
Facebook is a social networking service that keeps you connected with friends, family, co-workers, companies and organizations through web pages you set up.
To join Twitter and follow archmil, go to www.twitter.com. Once you
have signed into Twitter, use the search link on the bottom of the page
(not the Find People search at the top) and type ―archmil‖ or
―Archdiocese of Milwaukee.‖
Twitter is a social networking site which allows you to stay connected to your friends, “followers” and organizations through short text messages called Tweets which contain 140 characters or less. You can view the text messages on your cell phone, online in your Twitter account or through third-party applications like Twirl, Snitter and Twitterfox.
The Gospel asks for us: “How
can Jesus give us His flesh to
eat?” Our lack of knowledge
does not prevent us from being
lured into the mystery. The mys-
tery makes it all the more ap-
pealing. “Do this in memory of
me.” So, do it!
Archdiocesan Conference on Natural Family Planning Saturday, August 29, 2009
St. Joseph Center, 1501 S Layton Blvd, Milwaukee
Cost: $15.00 per person
The Nazareth Project of the John Paul II Center is hosting an Archdioce-
san Conference on Natural Family Planning on August 29, 2009. Natural
family planning, or NFP, is a method of achieving or postponing preg-
nancy by observing the changes in a woman’s body that naturally indi-
cate her fertility. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend this confer-
ence, which will begin with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Callahan. No
prior knowledge of NFP is needed! This day is especially for those wish-
ing to learn more about Natural Family Planning, as well as those who
work with engaged or married couples in parishes, such as FOCCUS cou-
ples. For more information and registration form, visit our website:
http://www.johnpaul2center.org/images/NFP_Flyer.pdf. Please email
questions to [email protected] or call 414-758-2214. If you are inter-
ested in being trained as an NFP instructor, call Lydia LoCoco at above
number.
Bible & More to start again
soon! This weekly Bible Study,( Wednes-
day mornings 9-11 am) will be
meeting the last two weeks of the
month this fall – beginning on Sep-
tember 16. Our book this year is
Fr. Richard Rohr’s Things Hidden:
Scripture as Spirituality – on a
topic that Fr. Rohr as been speak-
ing and writing about for many
years – ―Great Themes of Sacred
Scripture.‖ Writing on this book
scripture scholar Walter Bruegge-
mann of Columbia Theological
Seminary, said, Things Hidden is an
invitation of Gospel proportion to
move on into the life God intends -
a life of joy and obedience.‖ If
you are interested in joining us for
this study – and more! – please
call the parish office to register and
order a book (cost - $14).
WorkCamp 2010: WorkCamp participants led by
Kevin Birschbach will be showing
slides and talking about their mis-
sion trip to Moultrie County after all
the Liturgies the weekend of Au-
gust 29 and 30 in the parish hall.
Please plan to stay and hear about
their experiences. These youth
could have chosen to "snooze and
looze" all summer. Instead, they
chose to "give so others can live."
Let's show them we care! Let's give
them our support! Please join us
Call to Action Conference If you are interested in attending

414-353-8695 or Lori Ozminkowsk @ 262-309-7292.
Please Bring a Baked Dessert to Share
Bring Your Own Lawn chairs We celebrate Rain or Shine!
All Are Invited!
You can still offer to help with the activity of your choice by sign-
ing up at both entrances. Baked treats can be brought to the
kitchen on Friday or Saturday morning.
Many hands, light work? Come, help us paint around the building! Some people serve on parish commissions and committees that carry out the
functions of a parish on a year in and year out basis. Other people prefer
short term involvements—a commitment of time and energy that is over in a
definable amount of time. If you are this second kind of a person here is an
opportunity for you----
There are a few areas of the parish building that could use some freshening-
up through a fresh coat of paint. A parishioner is donating the paint; now we
need the hands to put it on the wall. You’ve painted at
home or maybe even as a professional; we’re trying to
get a group together –as the old German saying goes
―many hands make light work‖.
Please call the parish office this week!!! Thanks!
