Puijo Tower is a distinctive landmark that you can see from afar when arriving to Kuopio. It is located in the middle of the city, only a few kilometers from the famous market place. Standing on the top of a hill, the Tower offers a wide and beautiful view over the lake scenery and the city. Over 80 000 people come to admire the view yearly. The Puijo hill, covered with forest, is about 500 hectares large. From the early 19th

century the hill has been a popular lookout spot for the citizens of Kuopio as well as for travelers. The scenery has inspired several Finnish artists, and Puijo is often mentioned in literature, art, photography, movies and music. There have been many impor-tant guests over the years, for example, President Urho Kekkonen and the Shah of Persia. The story tells that the Shah would have liked to buy the Tower for his wife.

The current tower is the third one on the same spot. The first, wooden tower, built in 1856, was 16 meters high. The second tower, made of brick, was built in 1906 and it reached the height of 24 meters. The cur-rent 75 meter high tower was built in 1963.

Souvenir shop and Tower café

Visitors can also admire the view from a cafeteria up in the Tower or a large observation deck on the roof of the Tower. Downstairs the souvenir shop offers a variety of gifts and souvenirs, including local handicrafts, jewelry, kitchenware and toys. You can also buy and send your postcards here – with a special Puijo stamp.

The rotating restaurant of the Tower is famous for its delicious food and probably the best window seats in Finland, 224 meters above the lake Kallavesi. The floor of the restaurant revolves around once in an hour, offering an amazing view for the diners. The á la carte list includes Suomi, Savo and Puijo menus, all inspired by local ingre-

dients. There are also delicacies designed especially for children. A three-course lunch menu is available on weekdays. For groups we offer also seasonally varied group menus to choose from.Different kinds of business occasions and family celebrations are often arranged in the Tower and even the whole Tower can be reserved for a private gathering.

The traditional, cozy and atmospheric restaurant Puijon Maja has been operating since the early 20th century. Today it is a popular lunch restaurant: a diverse and tasteful lunch buffet is available on week-days. On weekends and evenings Puijon Maja serves as a versatile party venue for up to 100 people. Puijon Maja has a separate meeting room with a sauna department. These facilities are perfect for meetings and other occa-sions for up to approximately 25 persons. A meeting can be kicked off with the hotel’s breakfast buffet, and later on our delicious lunch buffet provides the energy for the rest of the day. Naturally you can also have food and beverages delivered to the meeting

room. A great way to top off the meeting is a dinner at the Tower Restaurant. The meet-ing room also serves as a sauna cabinet. For a private sauna evening you can book our two saunas with separate dressing rooms. Gather a group and come enjoy the Finnish sauna and a nice dinner in the sauna cabinet!

Puijo offers splendid possibilities for sports and nature lovers; a wide net of skiing tracks and several jogging and nature paths guarantee challenge and pleasure, whether you are a professional athlete or enjoy relaxed excursions in the woods. There is also a 9-hole par 3 golf course, two slalom slopes and a ski stadium, where the Ski Jumping World Cup is held.
