DIOCESE OF HONOLULU PRAYER FOR THE COVID-19 CORONA VIRUS PANDEMIC [by Bishop Larry Silva; March 12, 2020]

Dear God of all the living, you sent your Son Jesus to heal us from illness and sin. We turn to his healing

power in this time of anxiety over the pandemic of this potentially deadly virus. St. Damien and St.

Marianne Cope dedicated their lives to service of those who had an infectious disease. St. Marianne Cope

said, “I am not afraid of any disease,” because she was confident of your power to save. At the same time,

she took prudent precautions of hygiene to assure that she and her Sisters would not be infected. Let us

learn from this example to put our trust in you to save us from the ravages of disease and to take prudent

measures to prevent its spread. Guide us to know when to isolate ourselves from the possibility of infection,

but never let anyone be left without the care and concern of others in the community.

As our Diocese of Honolulu has been dedicated to the Divine Mercy,

we pray with confidence, “Jesus, I trust in you.”

Rules, Expectations, and Points to Consider KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING:1. Have clear behavior expectations and consequences. Have students demonstrate

and consider use of the QUIET SIGNAL. 2. PRAISE. PRAISE, PRAISE EFFORT, GOOD CHOICES, AND ENCOURAGE

POSITIVE STATEMENTS. Everyone is trying their best.3. As done in school, CONSIDER USING THE COLOR CODE CHANGES WHEN

SLEs ARE NOT FOLLOWED. Depending upon their age, allow your child some input for consequences for good and poor choices. The final decision is yours.

4. Students and adults need time to make this adjustment to a new learning environment and schedule for each day. Be patient. Make adjustments to the schedule as needed.

5. Adults and students may experience anxiety, fear, and stress. THUS, MAKE TIME FOR LAUGHTER AND ENJOY DOING SOME THINGS TOGETHER. Pray the rosary as a family, for our leaders, first responders, doctors, nurses, priests, religious, and the poor and vulnerable. Watch a family movie or enjoy a family type game together.

Everyone Is Doing Their Best!We appreciate every moment and all the effort you are contributing to your child’s learning. As parents, you are the primary educator of your child. Through your thoughts, words, and actions you are a daily model who is teaching your child by example the way to be a Morally Responsible Citizen, Effective Communicator, Active Christian, and Life Long Learner (SLEs). How have you learned to be faithful and resilient in challenging times? Do you pause to Thank God for the blessing of another day or any event that may not appear as a blessing at first, but it actually could be? During this Lenten Season, we are especially called to remember the great loving sacrifice Jesus Christ made for all of us. God is loving and merciful and will provide us with all that we need to face the daily challenges of each day. Pause to watch this Footprints in the Sand video to remind us how often God carries us upon His shoulders when we may least realize His presence, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_5h-f4OG_E&list=PLT4Fl1Zmboou2CD3iValFN4xzqVtyRQPu&index=42&t=0s Let us continue to be centered in Jesus Christ, pausing to surrender and embrace all that God is asking of us. With God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
