What is Global Warming?Global warming is when the earth heats up(the temperature rises). It happens when

    greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water

vapour, nitrous oxide, and methane) trapheat and light from the sun in the earths

atmosphere, which increases thetemperature. This hurts many people,

animals, and plants. Many cannot take thechange, so they die.

What Causes Glo ba lWarm ing?Global warming is causedby several causes suchas pollution fromfactories, carbon dioxide

from rotting trees, theburning of coal, naturalgasses and fossil fuelslead to methanetravelling into theEarth's atmosphere anytransportation vehicles, water vapour, and manyother little things, whichcontribute to makeglobal warming even

    worse.

Another great contributor to GlobalWarming is water Vapour. You may bethinking how does water vapour

contribute to Global Warming, well theanswer is water vapour does notdirectly contribute to Global Warming. It contributes to the GreenhouseEffect, which then leads to GlobalWarming. In fact, water vapour makes

up sixty percent of the Greenhousegasses, twenty percent is carbondioxide and the other twenty percentis caused by nitrous oxide , methane ,ozone and other varieties of gasses.

The greenhouse effect is when the

temperature rises because the suns heat andlight is trapped in the earths atmosphere. This

is like when heat is trapped in a car. On a very

hot day, the car gets hotter when it is out inthe parking lot. This is because the heat andlight from the sun can get into the car, by goingthrough the windows, but it cant get back out.

This is what the greenhouse effect does to theearth. The heat and light can get through theatmosphere, but it cant get out. As a result,

    the temperature rises.

What is The Effect Of Global Warming?

    Climate Change

Climate is the long term average of a regionsweather events lumped together. Climate

change represents a change in these long termweather patterns.

    Natural Disasters

Climate change could have a severe

effect on natural disasters. There might be more frequentand intense hurricanes, tornadoes, storms, cyclones andwater evaporation.

As a result of natural disasters,

houses, cities and towns wouldneed to be built more stablyagainst the forces of wind andwater.

These natural disasters could have ahuge effect on peoples lives andthose of future generations.

    Sea level rises Ecological systems

    Climate change may alter the

worlds habitats and ecosystems. Many places rely on a balance ofrainfall, soil and temperature. With a rapid change in climate

this balance would becomeuneven and dramatically

endanger many living things. Most of the past climatechanges have occurred gradually,

allowing plants and livingcreatures to adapt to the new

    environment or move somewhere

else. However, if future climateschange radically, scientists

predict that the living plants andanimals would become extinct

because they will not be able toadapt quickly enough.

    AgricultureGlobal Warming may make Earth

warmer in some cold places. People inthese areas might have more chances

of growing crops, but it might alsobring droughts to other areas where

we presently grow crops.Inland lakes and rivers could shrivel.

Forest and Bush fires could occurmore often. Frequent periods of

drought could make it difficult toraise crops for food. Crops and

woodlands many also be afflicted byinsects and plant disease.
