    Remember our beloved dead

November is usually the time where we especially remember our

beloved dead through prayers and offerings of Masses. ALL

SOULS’ DAY envelopes will be available next weekend at all

church exits for you to fill out. Masses are said for the souls in

purgatory for the entire month of November and thereafter. Drop

envelopes in the basket found in front of the altar. “May the souls

of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

    Amen”.

Computers: If you have computers in good condition but rarely

needed. Please bring them to church so that Fr. Vic can send them

to poor, rural schools in the Philippines early next year.

Syrian Refugee Family Updates: It is with very great satisfaction

and gratitude that the West Parry Sound Refugee Program, today

can report that our two Syrian families have completed their 12

months first stage of integration into our community. This has been

achieved by your generous help, in time resources and monetary

contributions. Also the program received outstanding help from

other parishes and many local businesses and individuals. The

Chahids and the Abboud families are now both in permanent

housing and three of the parents have found full or temporary

employment. All children are in school or day care. While our

support program has been completed, many program members are

still very much involved in assisting the families with

transportation, language education, and medical help. Some of our

program people have also become more than just support, and have

meshed genuine friendships. Your support over the past 26 months

has brought to fruition a project that all of us can be very pleased

with. While this first phase has been completed, we are proceeding

to bring a third family into our community, this time under the

guidance of Dr. Derek George his wife and help from Pamela

Muma. The West Parry Sound Refugee Program extends our

sincere thanks, blessings and good will to all, as we approach

    Christmas. Thank you, Jack Reck.

Missals 2017/18 are now available in the narthex! Secure a copy

for yourself and meditate on the readings as a way to prepare

yourself for the Sunday Eucharistic celebration. Suggested

donation is $5.00. Good item for Christmas gift!

Second Collection Schedule: Nov. 24 & 25 - for Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund

Myanmar Crisis Relief Fund: The crisis in Myanmar has resulted in the influx of an additional 816,000 Rohingya refugees into

Bangladesh since August, the majority being women and

children. This has triggered a humanitarian emergency on such a

scale that concerted international action is urgently required. In

order to address this situation, Canada launched the Myanmar

Crisis Relief Fund on October 31, 2017. For every eligible

donation made by individuals to registered Canadian charities

before November 28, 2017, the Government of Canada will

contribute an equivalent amount to the Myanmar Crisis Relief

    Fund.

Gospel Matthew 25.14-30 www.loyolapress.com Jesus tells the parable of the talents, in which he teaches about the

importance of using the gifts that God has given to us in service to

    the Kingdom of Heaven.

    Gospel Reflection

This week’s Gospel speaks of how Jesus’ disciples are to conduct

themselves as they await the Kingdom of Heaven. In the preceding

passages and in last week’s Gospel, Jesus taught that there is no

way to predict the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. His disciples

must, therefore, remain vigilant and ready to receive the Son of

Man at any time. Jesus’ parable talks about Christian discipleship

using economic metaphors. Before he leaves on a journey, the

master entrusts to his servants a different number of talents, giving

to each according to their abilities. A talent is a coin of great value.

Upon the master’s return, he finds that the first and second servants

have doubled their money, and both are rewarded. The third

servant, however, has only preserved what was given to him

because he was afraid to lose the money. He has risked nothing; he

did not even deposit the money in a bank to earn interest. This

servant is punished by the master, and his talent is given to the one

who brought the greatest return. Read in light of last week’s

parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids, this parable teaches

that God’s judgment will be based on the service we render to God

and to one another in accordance with the gifts that God has given

to us. Our gifts, or talents, are given to us for the service of others.

If we fail to use these gifts, God’s judgment on us will be severe.

On the other hand, if we make use of these gifts in service to the

Kingdom of Heaven, we will be rewarded and entrusted with even

more responsibilities. This Gospel reminds us that Christian

spirituality is not passive or inactive. Our life of prayer helps us to

discern the gifts that have been given to us by God. This prayer and

discernment ought to lead us to use our gifts in the service of God

and our neighbor. God’s grace allows us to share in the work of

    serving the Kingdom of Heaven.

Needed: If you happen to have slightly used summer sports

equipment like baseballs, basketballs, softballs, volleyballs, tennis

rackets, etc., that you want to share with, kindly bring them, to the

church. Fr. Vic will send them to the schools in the Philippines.
