Teacher Letter• Here are our 10 Golden Rules:

• 1. 5 days for 2 hours a day, it’s all you. Please line up a sub if something comes up. Call in case of an emergency: Tamela Anderson (C 330-256-5655).

• 2. Grade books and lesson plan books are in the main office. See Jim if you need them.

• 3. Pick up OGT Tests in Room 102 the day you are giving them. OGT Tests are due in Room 102 immediately following the exam.

• 4. Supervise your students when on break. Do not shake the vending machines, if an item fails to come out, just have the student write his/her information on a piece of paper and turn it in to me.

• 5. Attendance (and punctuality) are crucial. Explain to your students the policy: If s/he misses any part of an hour of intervention, the time must be made up before s/he may take the exam again.

Teacher Letter (cont.)• 6. Students are still enrolling Monday, so your class list may

change slightly.

• 7. Please call me immediately to let me know that students are absent. I will call home immediately.

• 8. Please keep a list of your students’ names and phone numbers with you in case of an emergency.

• 9. Explain to students there are no discipline problems for OGT Intervention. If they disrupt the educational process, they are gone. Old Student Agenda’s with school rules are available for non-Copley students, but common sense school law is basically in effect at all times (i.e. no fighting, no smoking, etc.)

• 10. Please do not dismiss your classes early.

Why do 10th graders have to take the test?

• To confirm that all Ohio students who receive a high school diploma can demonstrate at least a high school level of achievement.

• To measure the level of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies skills expected of students by the end of 10th grade.

• To meet federal law for high school testing.

Test-Taking Tips for Students

• Analyze the question. Do NOT rush through the question. Read ALL of it!

• Use knowledge to rule out wrong answers for wiser guesses.

• The test booklet is scrap paper. Cross out unnecessary or extra information, underline key words, or what information isn’t needed.

• Find the distracters in the multiple choice questions.

• Never leave a question blank.

• Don’t waste energy trying to race other questions, or on one question going over it again and again.

• Practice good time management. Answer the easier questions first so there is more time for answering the harder ones, or returning to double check answers.
