• List BA or BS (if known)

• List test and score (if known)—Advisor will follow up with you at the end of July
• College Credit (Dual Enrollment or Early College)• Have official transcript sent from community college/university (NOT high school if dual

• How many hours to be considered a. . . Sophomore?
• Sophomore = 30
• Junior = 60
• Senior = 90
• As a freshman, you should only take what level courses?
• 0000/1000/2000 level

• The typical course load per semester is how many hours?
• 15-16 hours
• You have a chance to work on your schedule today BUT you will have all
summer to finalize it (just make sure to be FULL TIME for now)!
Schedule Basics
English FC: EN6 hours (ENGL 1100 to be taken during 1st year and ENGL 2201 to be taken during 2nd year)
Natural Sciences FC:SC8 hours (and at least 1 of them must contain a LAB)
Math FC:MA3 hours
Health 1000 FC:HL 2 hours
KINE 1000 or 1001 FC:KN 1 or 2 hours
Humanities FC:HU and Fine Arts FC:FA 10 hours total (at least 1 Humanity and 1 Fine Art)

Foundations Curriculum
Math Placement Economics recommends MATH 1066 for your first semester.
African & African American Studies, English, History, Political Science,
Psychology & Security Studies do NOT need to take MATH 1065. Your major will
accept MATH 1050 (Explorations of Math).
In order to take MATH 1065 or 1066 (College Algebra)
• Minimum MATH SAT score of 540 or higher
• Minimum MATH ACT score of 20 or higher
• Accuplacer Placement test score of 70 or above (Score of 0-69 means student
must take remedial math)
• MATH 0001 is for out of state students
• MATH 0045 is for NC residents

Major Priority Courses
For the Thomas Harriot College of Arts & Sciences, in order to graduate you must
earn a 2.00 cumulative GPA and you must earn a 2.00 in your MAJOR courses.
• STARFISH Early Alert and connection tool used by ECU to support student
academic success
• Pirate Academic Success Center Provides free tutoring on a variety of
1000/2000 level subjects. Located in 2300 Old Cafeteria Complex
• Course Withdrawals First-Year students receive a limited amount (16 hours) of
course withdrawals that must be used within a certain time frame (During first 60% of
semester.) Last day to withdraw from a course in the fall is Oct 31, 2016
• Holds (admissions, cashier’s, judicial, student rights & responsibility, parking, library,
etc.) will prevent you from registering each semester. Check holds in Banner Self Service
• Grade Replacements First-Year students receive a limited number (4) of grade
replacements while at the university. Talk with your advisor immediately about your
options if you make a C- or lower in a course while at ECU.

FERPA & Communication
STUDENTS
• Communicate with advisors, professors, and parents regarding your academics.
• Check your ECU e-mail account daily (2-3 times a week throughout summer)
• You are responsible for your own academic success.
PARENTS
• Communication should be between parent and student (not through professor, advisor)
• Buckley/FERPA form on Pirate Port (student can log on to
give you access to communicate with various parts of university—financial, academic, judicial etc. This is valid for one year.)
The objective of COAD 1000 is to assist new students in being
successful in their first year of college and beyond. Topics
covered in this course include understanding the transition
from high school to college, student development and
motivation, goal-setting, learning styles, memory development,
listening skills, note-taking skills, study skills, test-taking skills,
communication, critical-thinking skills, ECU academic rules
and regulations, and career development issues.
If you would like to take this course, please let us know when we visit the computer lab in a few
minutes.
COAD 1000: First Year Seminar
Final Steps & Registration• Turn in the “Advisee Information” sheets so we can assign you an
advisor.
• If your schedule says “Looks Great!” then you are free to
leave.
• If you need to make changes to your schedule OR you didn’t
receive a printed copy of your schedule, then you will need to
follow our student worker to the computer lab in BATE 2009.
• Your registration pin is: 082216 (changes every semester)
• Parents go straight to Joyner Library, where your student will meet
you once they are done in the computer lab.
• Don’t forget to pick up your OneCard at Joyner when you are
finished in the computer lab!
